A COUPLE have revealed that they ditched their tiny two-bedroom flat in Leeds and relocated to Bulgaria.
Now, not only do they have better weather, but their bills are 10 times cheaper too.
Parents Mark and Anisha explained that they bought their huge, three-bedroom house outright – and it came with a massive cellar and lots of land.
It comes after the couple were living in a flat in the UK, both working 9-5 jobs, just to get by.
Whilst they had secure work and a small amount of money in savings, they were scared of always being stuck in the 9-5 grind.
Not only this, but the thought of struggling to get onto the property ladder was daunting, and they didn’t want to be trapped in splashing ‘dead money’ on rent.
As a result, desperate for ‘freedoms’ the UK didn’t seem to offer them, the couple headed to Bulgaria, for a more rural and sustainable lifestyle.
They applied for residency just before Brexit, moved in 2021 and now, they are raising their child in a rural village and are renovating their pad into their dream home, all whilst on a budget.
Not only is their home complete with a living room, kitchen, utility room and cellar, but there’s also three bedrooms and lots of land too.
Posting on social media, the couple were keen to share the five reasons why they chose to live in Bulgaria.
They confirmed that as a result of moving abroad, they were able to buy their house outright.
They stressed that buying their property was “affordable” and “good value”, as they claimed: “You get a lot of house and a lot of land which allows us to grow our food which has been a dream of ours.”
The couple also confirmed that thanks to living in Bulgaria, now their utility bills, including their water, gas and electricity, are “10 times cheaper than what we would pay in the UK.”
If that wasn’t enough, Mark and Anisha claimed that moving abroad has enabled them to “experience a new way of life”.
As a result of this, they’ve been able to “expand their perspective on culture” and allow their “self growth to thrive”.
Similar to this, the couple praised the “community spirit” in Bulgaria, as they complimented their “really welcoming neighbours”.

They also claimed: “Every Bulgarian we meet seems to be happy to help and enjoy us being here.”
Finally, the couple much prefer the weather in Bulgaria to the UK’s more unpredictable temperatures.
Moving house hacks
1. Declutter Before You Pack
Sort through your belongings and get rid of anything you no longer need. Donate, sell, or recycle items to lighten your load.
2. Create an Inventory
Make a list of all your items. This helps keep track of everything and ensures nothing gets lost in the move.
3. Use Quality Packing Materials
Invest in sturdy boxes, bubble wrap, and packing tape. This will protect your belongings during the move.
4. Label Everything
Clearly label each box with its contents and the room it belongs to. This makes unpacking much easier and more organized.
5. Pack a ‘First Day’ Box
Include essentials like toiletries, a change of clothes, snacks, and important documents. This will keep you from rummaging through boxes on your first day.
6. Take Photos of Electronics Setup
Before unplugging your electronics, take photos of the wiring setup. This will make it easier to reconnect everything at your new place.
7. Use Suitcases for Heavy Items
Pack books and other heavy items in rolling suitcases. This makes them easier to transport and reduces the risk of injury.
8. Colour-Code Your Boxes
Use different coloured stickers or markers for each room. This will help movers quickly identify where each box should go in your new home.
The couple wrote: “Bulgaria is absolutely beautiful, we love the range of colours, the different weathers, and feel extremely lucky to live here.”
The young parents explained that they live a slow pace of life and “don’t work”.
Instead, they “rely on Cryptocurrency investments” to live, which they admitted is “very volatile”.

Meanwhile, someone else asked: “What’s the health system like? How does it work?”
To this, the couple replied and confirmed: “We pay a small monthly fee for health insurance, so we have access to health care whenever we need.
“Fortunately, [we] haven’t needed to rely on it as of yet. Personally, we don’t have prescriptions, but the pharmacies are plentiful and have a lot of the regular medicines that you find in the west.”
Whilst another wondered: “How difficult is the language?”
In response, the content creators admitted: “We find it very difficult, but still enjoyable to learn.
“We have only picked up on basics so far, conversational Bulgarian is very intimidating.”
