Budapest has a thriving tourism industry, with millions of people visiting every summer[/caption]

Known for its classical architecture and world-famous thermal baths, Budapest has become a hub for tourism over the years.

It’s also established itself as a popular stag destination, thanks to its affordable nightlife.

Conde Nast described the city break as being “electric with life and tender with romance”.

And the city consistently ranks among the most affordable European destinations for a weekend break, according to the Post Office City Cost Barometer.

It is currently placed as the seventh most affordable weekend destination in Europe.

The average price of a hotel stay for two in Budapest for a weekend is around £310, according to the report.

A pint of beer will only set you back between £1.50 to £3, while a typical meal out would be £5 to £10 each.

Traditionally three cities – Buda, Obuda, and Pest – the modern Budapest was officially established in 1873.

It has a long history, from early Celtic settlements to becoming the centre for Renaissance humanist culture in the 15th century.

The Hungarian capital is located on the Danube river, which also passes through Austria, Slovakia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, and Ukraine.

Budapest is home to Hungary’s largest building, the neo-Gothic parliament, which is home to the country’s crown jewels.

The Castle District and National Széchenyi Library are other must-see sites for history fans.

And the House of Terror museum, located in the building that hosted Nazi Headquarters during World War II, offers an insight into the harrowing era for the country.

As well as historical sites, tourists can enjoy the local cuisine at a wide variety of markets, bars, and restaurants.

Foodies will also love Budapest, which is home to the world’s “most beautiful” cafe.

Holidaymakers have the option to choose between a variety of visitor passes, which range from 24 hours to five days.

These offer everything from free public transport and walking tours to free access to over 30 tourist attractions, including the thermal baths.

And if you’re looking for something more adrenaline-inducing than the baths, you can also visit the city’s huge indoor water park, which includes an outdoor beach.

There is plenty of accommodation available throughout the historic city.

One holidaymaker even nabbed herself a free stay in a mansion in Budapest, and the opportunity is open to anyone.

The astonishingly ornate building features grand columns, fancy decor, and live classical music.
