Nigella Lawson, 65, makes surprise admission about her sexy image & reveals table etiquette mistakes that drive her mad

SHE’S the nation’s best-known domestic goddess, has been voted Britain’s sexiest celebrity chef and is famed for purring innuendos over a hot stove.

But telly’s Nigella Lawson insists that she’s not the poised looker her die-hard fans believe — and is lazy, has oven burn marks all over her arms and persistently scruffy hair.

She said: “I don’t get the whole sexy thing.

“Often I am not wearing makeup at all.

“If I’ve done my own hair, I don’t brush it, I mess it up.

“Instead of brushing it, I tip my head upside down.

“I do try to do it sometimes, but I’m incredibly lazy.

“If people recognise me, I’m astonished.”

Recalling an instance on London Underground, she said: “I was on the Tube the other day and someone said, ‘Is it you?’

“I said, ‘God, I am looking such a fright. I’m almost offended to be recognised’.”

Gesturing to her arms, mum-of-two Nigella adds: “I am very clumsy.

“I mean, look, I mean, the amount of burns.”

Appearing on the Salon Confidential podcast with stylist Andreas Wild, out on Monday, Nigella says her tardiness often spreads into her own kitchen.

She is a stickler for table etiquette, however, saying: “When people use their food plates for stubbing a cigarette out, the thought of that makes me feel ill.

“That’s the thing I can’t bear.

“I think of it as a cross-contamination thing.

“I’m not super hygienic, I can tell you.

“My fridge is a bit of a terrible mess.

“But I cannot bear it if people use the same knife for the butter and then put it into some marmalade.

“Or they spread the toast with the butter, and then they put the knife back into the butter so crumbs get into the butter.

“In restaurants now, they often do those sharing plates.

“But they don’t give you a spoon and fork for serving.

“There seems to be a disinclination to give people serving utensils.

‘Strange oversight’

“And so people have to use the knives and forks they’re eating with to take things out of a dish.

“I often think that it’s a strange oversight.

“At home, I always have a serving spoon and fork.”

Prolific food writer Nigella, 65, went on to admit her high-profile career sees her receiving special treatment in restaurants because chefs are so keen to impress.

She said of her orders: “There are certain things I would ask more questions with.

“I feel there’s this tendency to undercook chips and French fries and they’re too blonde.

“And I always say, ‘Leave them in for longer for mine please’.”

Referring to a top restaurant in London’s Soho, she adds: “The Devonshire have it written down.

“I think they have a note because I when I said, ‘And can you . . . ,’ they said: ‘Yes, it’s in your notes’.”
