A WOMAN has been left stunned after her husband shared his plans to go on a ‘gaycation’, despite insisting he is totally straight.
The mum-of-two thought she had a loving and stable relationship, but her entire world was turned upside down when her husband of 16-years first brought up the idea of the so-called holiday where men go to experience the gay lifestyle with no strings attached.
The husband insisted wanting to go on the holiday doesn’t mean he’s attracted to men[/caption]
It all started when her husband sat her down and presented a “printed poster for some sort of orgy and started explaining to me the concept of a ‘gaycation’,” she wrote on Reddit.
He went on to explain that going on the trip doesn’t mean he’s no longer straight because “It’s where straight men go to somewhere with sun, sand and booze and become gay for the duration of the trip,” the woman added.
As far as her husband was concerned it would all be above board because “what happens on the gaycation, stays on the gaycation”, and he was planning on booking a trip with his sister’s husband so they could both experience it together.
Totally mortified by all this information, the anonymous woman tried to keep her cool and simply asked her husband if he was gay.
“He swore up and down how he’s not gay and he’s 100% attracted to women and of course still loves me and our boys,” she wrote in the viral post.
“So I said ‘well do you think you’re bisexual maybe’ and he got very defensive, saying how I need to drop the accusations and that this is the beauty of the gaycation, it allows straight men to ‘experience’ gayness without actually being gay and how it’s like going to an aquarium???”
After ignoring him for the rest of the day, the conversation about the Ibiza trip resumed, and her husband continued to defend his gaycation plans.
“He said how he’s interested in how gay men’s lives differ from straight men’s and that unfortunately, once the gaycation begins, it’s simply impossible for a man to resist and he must ‘surrender himself mind, body and soul’ to the gaycation or ‘be destroyed’.
“I really can’t put into words how surreal it was, because he was speaking so matter of fact and he insists this is a thing that straight men do all the time and how he’s actually ‘doing it a bit late’.”
She bluntly told him that if he went on the gaycation it would be the end of their marriage, and although he didn’t immediately try to bring it up again it was clear being denied the experience was “tearing him up inside.”
In fact, he even took a day and a half off work to mourn the gaycation that could never be.
“The marriage is dead, one way or another. In a way I was in denial myself about that,” the woman continued, adding that she had also spoke to her sister-in-law about her husband wanting to go on the trip too.
Although the conversation didn’t initially go down well, the sister-in-law called back later and “admitted she was in deep, deep shock” about the whole thing.
After sending their two kids to sleep at their grandparents for the weekend, the couple continued to discuss the so-called gaycation.
“I’ve genuinely never seen him have such a childish tantrum before, screaming about how I just don’t understand the gaycation and insinuating that I’m actually homophobic because I refuse to allow him to participate in this ‘cultural exchange with the gay community’,” she explained.
Fellow Reddit users suggested the woman flip the situation on her husband to see how he would like it if she had her own holiday to sleep with other men, so he could see it from her perspective.
I really can’t put into words how surreal it was, because he was speaking so matter of fact and he insists this is a thing that straight men do all the time.
“Like f**king clockwork, he was very angry and offended, saying ‘it’s completely different because a gaycation means nothing […] whereas I’d just be ‘straight up cheating’,” the woman then updated the post.
Much to her shock, her plan backfired and her husband agreed to let her do whatever she wants if he can go on the raunchy lads trip.
“He doesn’t want me to, but that it’s ‘fair in a twisted way’,” she wrote.
Eventually, she kicked him out of their house and he left without putting up a fight.
Things then went from bad to worse when she decided to drain their joint bank account and her husband’s mum got involved.
Much like the woman’s sister-in-law, she didn’t believe it at first but then was shocked by the whole thing when her son admitted it all and gave the “same spiel about how what happens on the gaycation, men cannot resist the gaycation; how a man must surrender to the gaycation, etc.”
What your sexual fantasies say about you
By Emma Kenny, a TV presenter and psychologist
Raucous Role Play: If your partner enjoys dressing up for fun, it shows creativity and a desire to keep things exciting. However, it might signal that he struggles with responsibility.
Multi-Partner Fantasies: Craving variety doesn’t always mean he wants to cheat. However, it could indicate deeper feelings of unfulfillment.
Power & Control: A little dominance is normal, but if it’s always about control, it may hide insecurities.
Adventure: Men seeking thrills may push boundaries, so be sure your comfort zone is respected.
Passion: If he’s romantic, he’s emotionally tuned in—though occasionally avoiding tough conversations.
Flexibility: Openness to new experiences is great, but constant novelty-seeking could mean avoiding emotional connection.
Red Flag: If control is his ultimate fantasy, it may signal a deeper struggle with power dynamics.
Through it all, both her husband and brother-in-law insisted wanting to go on the trip doesn’t mean they’re gay or bisexual, which left everyone scratching their heads.
“I’m just…still utterly stunned […] what exactly did we do to have our lives destroyed in such an abrupt, bizarre embarrassing way?” the woman added.
Finally, she noted that she would be proceeding with a divorce.
Fellow Reddit users were equally stunned by the situation, as one commented: “It’s definitely not normal. ‘I’m not even attracted to men, but I want to try being gay’, said no straight man ever.
“My bet is this ‘gaycation’ doesn’t even exist and husband and brother-in-law want to go away and ‘explore’ together and are trying to figure out a way to do this while also assuaging their conscience and being somewhat honest.”
And others thought the whole thing was so crazy it could be fake.
One said: “I struggle to believe this is real because it is so insane.
“Ignoring the part where your husband clearly is not straight, he is basically proposing that he gets a week long cheating vacation. And bringing another family member into it no less.
“You do not need to be ok with your partner cheating on you and that is an ABSURD ask.”
