THIS is the moment a crook who tried to smuggle dozens of illegal gun parts into the UK was dragged from his car by an armed cop.
Yasir Khan – who claimed he was a car dealer – hid a stash of components for 9mm Glock self-loading pistols in a 1976 Datsun Sunny.
The 40-year-old, of Sparkhill, Birmingham, pleaded guilty after a National Crime Agency (NCA) probe proved he was the mastermind behind a bid to sneak 36 top slides and barrels inside the throwback Japanese motor.
Khan was dramatically arrested on July 12 last year on a suburban street in the city’s Jewellery Quarter as a crowd gathered.
The bodycam footage shows a specialist police officer with a large scoped assault rifle aiming at the smuggler and demanding he “open the door”.
The cop then drags Khan – who has his hands up – to the ground as he drops what appears to be a vape.
Another cop, in plain clothes, then quickly pats him down before his hands are brought behind his back and cuffed.
An officer is heard saying: “Right, no sudden moves. You’ve got tasers and guns pointed at you.”
JAILED
Khan appeared at Birmingham Crown Court today and was jailed for eight years after admitting smuggling firearms.
The Datsun had been stopped on July 7 2024 at London Gateway Port when NCA officers discovered the illegal stash.
The judge heard the parts were hidden underneath the windscreen, behind the engine block and in the fuel tank.
NCA officers discovered voice notes on his phone showing evidence of a contact with a supplier in Pakistan who had access to the manufacture of component parts for the guns.
The armourer had invited Khan to view “the factory” during summer 2023.
Khan is suspected of a similar importation in November 2023.
Mobile phone voice notes and videos showed him struggling with ammunition jamming in the firearms once they had been constructed and test fired.
Evidence also showed that during 2023, Khan purchased several deactivated firearms which it is believed he was able to convert into viable lethal firearms once again.
NCA Senior Investigating Officer David Phillips said: “Working with our law enforcement partners at home and abroad, preventing illegal firearms from reaching the streets of the UK is a key priority for the NCA.
“The NCA and Border Force have prevented this huge array of component parts from entering the criminal marketplace and being used to produce lethal firearms for organised crime groups.”
