Inside the Japanese-like hotel in the middle of London with reclining beds and cheap rooms

TRENDY budget chain Yotel has a number of hotels around the country, and has become known for its simple yet trendy modern rooms that feel more like Japanese pod hotels.

Here is everything you need to know about the hotel as well as what to do in the nearby area.

Where is the hotel?

The Yotel London City is right in the middle of it all, being a short walk from both Farringdon and Barbican station.

What is the hotel like?

The hotel is simple but modern. The ‘reception’ has lots of self-check in machines although there was someone on hand to help.

What are the rooms like?

The rooms are made to be compact, but in a clever way seen in Japanese hotels rather than small.

This means reclining beds that become an upright ‘seat’ with the click of a button, and ledges and pockets for everything from remote controls to towels and SmartTVS.

The bathroom and shower are thankfully behind frosted doors although the open nature of the rooms means it feels much bigger.

Each room comes with complimentary towels and Urban Jungle toiletries, as well as a safe and fridge, iron and hairdryer.

Rooms range from single beds for solo travellers, to 2-3 person rooms with queen beds or even bunk beds.

Ask for the VIP suite to get 399sqft of space to yourself.

Some rooms even have for city views where you can spot iconic skyline buildings such as The Shard and St Paul’s Cathedral.

Rooms start from £103 a night for non Yotel members.

What is there to eat and drink there?

The hotel bar and restaurant Revolve is a modern lounging area with velvet seating and plant-covered bar.

Its is where you’ll find the buffet restaurant in the morning too.

Breakfast is limited but enough to satisfy, with hot options tomake up a Full English as well as pastries, cereals and fruit.

Otherwise there is the Grab + Go bar where you can get some snacks if you don’t have time.

But make sure to stay for lunch or dinner, where you’ll find larger meals and bar snacks.

Deals include a pizza and pint of local beer for £16, or happy hour cocktails which change per day.

Need something lighter? I made the most of the smaller snacks with salty Padron peppers and sweet chili chicken bites, chased by a matcha and strawberry cocktail.

What is there to do at the hotel?

The hotel has its own gym in the basement, with more than enough machines to go around.

Otherwise it is a great base to explore the city.

The hotel is a short walk from Farringdon station which will take you to most of the top attractions in the UK.

Also close is the Barbican, home to the brutalist Barbican Conservatory which is well worth a visit.

    Is hotel family-friendly?

Cots can be requested at no extra cost, with some rooms sleeping up to three people including a bunk bed.

Is there access for guests with disabilities?

The hotel has lifts between all of the floors, as well as accessible rooms including Accessible Queen and Accessible Premium Plus.
