A WOMAN says she was left looking like a character from Monsters Inc after getting her lips tattooed.
Tash Evans claims the swelling started as soon as the one-and-a-half-hour procedure began, but her lips then ballooned to five times their normal size.

The 21-year-old thought she resembled Jeff Fungus from Disney Pixar’s Monsters Inc.
In the 2001 film, the villain is left with giant lips after being sucked into a scream extractor machine.
Tash, from Manchester, said: “I didn’t know my lips could go that big.”
She had the cosmetic treatment done on January 18.
It involves a specialised needle depositing pigment into the upper layer of the skin, like a traditional tattoo.
It can be used to enhance the natural shape and colour of your lips, or to create a new look altogether.
Tash had expected to walk out of the salon with a subtle enhancement, and feeling more confident than ever.
But instead, she was branded “ugly” by her own mum, and her boyfriend slammed the front door in her face.
“I had a jump scare when I looked at myself in the mirror,” she said.
“My lips started swelling as soon as the practitioner started doing it.
“When they’re numbed, they feel swollen anyway, so I didn’t realise how bad it was.
“But when I saw the result, all I could see was the character from Monsters Inc who gets stuck in the machine.
“My mum said how ‘ugly’ I looked. She and my dad did the usual thing of saying I ‘didn’t need it’.
“When my boyfriend saw me, we both burst out laughing and he shut the door on me.”
Tash had filler in her top lip one year ago as she felt her bottom lip was proportionally bigger.
She didn’t have any kind of reaction, but as time passed, she thought the filler made the outline of her mouth look a little “blurry”.
The lady who did it said the swelling would go down by the evening, but it didn’t – I had to wear a mask to Asda

“I’ve had lip filler before and never had any problems,” she said.
“I have a massive bottom lip and a tiny top lip so I had filler and didn’t have any regrets.
“Nobody else noticed it but I felt like my lip outline was blurry so I wanted to get the tattoo, known as blush, to even it out.
“Nothing like this has ever happened before, but tattooing is different.”
After blowing up to five times their normal size, the swelling in Tash’s lips started to subside after two days.
But she was still forced to wear a mask every time she left the house to avoid people staring.
“The lady who did it said the swelling would go down by the evening but it took about two days,” she added.
“I had to wear a mask to Asda and luckily I booked the day off work on Monday for my boyfriend’s birthday.”

Tash shared a clip of her swollen lips on TikTok and the post has racked up more than 1.2million views.
She said: “People were saying it was an allergic reaction and were telling me to go to A&E, but I wasn’t going to do that.
“There are more important people who need A&E.
“I wasn’t in pain so I can laugh about it now. It was worth it for the laugh. I made about a million people’s day.
“I’m happy with the results and colour now the swelling has gone down.
“I don’t think it’s the practitioners fault. She was really nice and responded promptly to my messages.”
The dangers of lip blush

Lip blush is a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure that involves depositing pigment into the upper layer of the skin using a specialised needle.
First, your lips are numbed. Then an outline of your desired lip shape and tone will be applied, before the needling begins.
The process can take between one and three hours.
Like all procedures, it carries some risks.
These include: swelling, redness, pain, pus oozing from the lips, itchiness, a rash, scars, skin bumps, uneven colouring, and blood-borne illnesses from shared equipment.
“They can lead to serious complications if they’re not done correctly, and can affect your mental health if they do not turn out how you expected,” the NHS warns.
Before you book an appointment, do the following to help keep you safe:
- Ask yourself why you want the procedure
- Speak to a GP or other health professional
- Do your research – find out as much as you can about the procedure you want
- Understand all the costs involved (immediate and follow-up maintenance)
- Choose a reputable, safe and qualified practitioner
- Before committing, ask plenty of questions about the procedure, products and what could go wrong
- Take extra care to research any procedures or clinics you find on social media
- Take your time to decide – you should be offered a cooling off period after any consultation
Remember, you can walk away if you’re not completely comfortable.

Tash wasn’t the only one to see the similarities with Fungus.
One person commented: “Lip blush or scream extractor? I hope that goes down for you soon. It looks so sore.”
Others urged her to seek treatment as soon as possible, while some people reassured her they will look good eventually.
One user said: “Girl, please take antihistamines. It should help the swelling go down.”
Another wrote: “Mine went huge like this. They go down I promise.
“Best thing I’ve ever done and now they look great.”
