EVERY year the King entertains tens of thousands of guests at Buckingham Palace.
Of course it’s not really entertaining, it’s work. All part of the job.

And, on Wednesday night, hours before he was taken to hospital suffering side effects from cancer treatment, he was doing just that — his job.
Around 400 journalists had gathered in the Palace ballroom to celebrate local and regional journalism.
Probably not up there in the top 10 of events for the King and Queen who who have not always had the easiest of relationships with the press.
But the King also recognises how the work of the royals would be almost invisible without it.
So get to work he did as he effortlessly segued through the room chatting to journalists from Wick to Weymouth and everywhere in between.
While I chatted to the Queen at one end of the room, the King was at he other end listening intently.
He looked well, was in fine form and chuckled away as journalists told him of their most memorable royal rota jobs.
Skipping from one chat to the next non-stop must have been exhausting for anyone let alone a man of 76 having cancer treatment.
His commitment to duty is never in question but your body has a knack of letting you know when you are overdoing it and perhaps this is a sign he needs to ease up on the workload.
And, let’s not forget no one ever gets any thanks for coming into work when they are ill.
So take some time off Your Majesty — work will still be here.
