It was set to follow on from last year’s commercial hit Saw X.
Now behind-the-scenes drama between warring producers has seemingly killed the project before it could even get going.
With the future of Saw now uncertain, fans are left wondering whether this really is the end of Jigsaw’s twisted games or if another revival could be lurking in the shadows.
Tobin Bell was due to reprise his role as John Kramer or the Jigsaw in the gruesome franchise.
But according to horror insiders Bloody Disgusting, studio disputes at Lionsgate have been brewing since January 2024.
Tension over the direction of the franchise ultimately led to its cancellation.
A source close to the project reportedly claimed the film has been “totally, 100% dead” for nearly a year after attempts to smooth things over failed.
The news has sent shockwaves through the Saw fanbase, with many taking to social media to vent their disappointment.
One fan lamented: “Damn, I was curious to see where the next one would take place.”
Another heartbroken horror buff wrote: “Well, it is as most of us feared, and with that I’m very disappointed.
“But I will sing the praises of this series for all times to come.
“If Saw X was truly the end, then it was one helluva last hurrah and I will cherish its existence forever.”
A third fan kept things in perspective, admitting: “Booooo. Saw X would be a pretty solid ending for the franchise though!”
Others held out hope that Saw XI may rise from the grave, with one optimist predicting: “This sounds more like a temporary setback.
“I imagine we’ll still be seeing Saw XI within the next 16 months. Wrap up the storylines. Then after that, it’s time for a fresh take on the franchise.”
The now-cancelled sequel was expected to bring back Saw X director Kevin Greutert, along with franchise veterans Bell, Shawnee Smith, and Costas Mandylor.
Meanwhile, Netflix fans in the UK have something to celebrate after banned horror movie The Hunt was made available on the platform.
It was originally blocked from airing in the US after its initial release in March 2020.
Co-written by Watchmen’s Damon Lindelof, it features razor-sharp observations on woke culture whilst being a gorefest.
The film managed to attract the attention of President Donald Trump, which director Craig Zobel still struggling to explain ‘how that even feels’.
He said at the time that angering US politicians was “not the goal”.
The cast of the film features American Horror Story actress Emma Roberts, My Name is Earl’s Ethan Suplee, Bad Neighbours actor Ike Barinholtz and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Glenn Howerton.
Trump got involved over hostages in The Hunt being dubbed the ‘deplorables’, which is similar to a comment then-Democratic nominee Hilary Clinton made during a speech ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
Speaking at a campaign fundraising event in September 2016, Clinton said: “To just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the ‘basket of deplorables’.”
The film was originally meant to be released on September 27, 2019 but it was delayed due to two mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas.
The President said at the time: “Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate! They like to call themselves ‘Elite’, but they are not Elite.
“In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite. The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos.
“They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!”
