A VILLAGE in Croatia has been compared to a fairytale after being built on 23 waterfalls.
Rastoke is just over 90 minutes from Zagreb, which has direct flights from the UK.

It was even named the most beautiful tourist village in the world in 2023 by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
It is also nicknamed a “mini Plitvice” after the huge national park in Croatia that is often dubbed a “mermaid lagoon”.
It’s tiny nature means you are more likely to visit it for the day, being just 6.5km long.
But called a “hidden paradise” by Croatia Tourism, the village merges with Korana River.
The main attraction is the 23 waterfalls throughout the village as well as 22 watermills.
It’s fairytale-like comparison comes from the bright green foliage as well as the turquoise waters.
And legend of the Rastoke fairies tell the story who lives along the riverbanks and cured the sick.
They were also said to safely guide lost travellers back to the correct path.

Otherwise most of the houses were built in the late 19th century with most of them still lived in by residents.
Some of them are now restaurants, with Bisto KUM one of the most popular.
However, there are thoughts that the town was founded in the 1600s.
Some people called it a hidden gem on Tripadvisor, while others said was worth a stop when driving through with “barely any tourists”.

The nearby Plitvice Lakes has been named a top natural wonder of the world by Lonely Planet.
The 16 lakes are park of the Natural Park, which also featured on The Green Planet.
