Haven holiday park’s new Wetherspoons pub opens to customers as part of £6.7million revamp

HOLIDAYMAKERS at Haven Haggerston Castle Park can now visit a Wetherspoons on site.

The Northumberland holiday park officially opened the £1.8 million pub this week, just two weeks after the Cleethorpes Beach location launched.

This opening aligns with the Haven holiday park’s official 2025 season start.

Aptly named The Sir Thomas Haggerston, the pub will welcome customers from 8am daily, closing at 11:00 PM Sunday through Thursday and staying open til midnight on weekends.

During peak times in July and August, the location will be open until midnight on weeknights and 1:00 AM on Friday and Saturday.

Alcohol service begins at 10:00 AM, in line with the existing licence across Haven branded on-site restaurants, while the kitchen closes at 10:00 PM.

“We’re thrilled to kick off the 2025 season by welcoming our owners and holidaymakers to our brand-new pub,” said manager Jemma Marshall.

She added that the Haven team are excited “to bring our exclusive partnership with J D Wetherspoon to a new park for guests to enjoy throughout the year”.

The opening comes after The Humber Stone location was launched at Haven’s Cleethorpes Holiday Park earlier this month.

These new sites are part of a £6.7 million expansion plan, which will see four Wetherspoons open at various Haven parks.

The London Stone, which is located at the Kent Coast Holiday Park officially opened on March 7.

Meanwhile, The Red Rocks at the Devon Cliffs Holiday Park is set to launch on April 29.

Last year, The Five Stones at Haven Primrose Valley was the first Wetherspoons pub to open on-site.

The location had a successful first year, reporting 168,000 pints pulled and 314,000 meals served.

This expansion is part of a wider £8.3 million investment on food and drink at Haven parks.

Since 2021, Haven have invested a total of £410 million in their parks.

This is with a commitment to upgrading and modernising all locations to offer guests an unforgettable holiday experience.

Haven’s first Wetherspoons review

Wetherspoons regulars Malcolm and Hilary Peart made the 100-mile trek from Durham to Haven Primrose Valley to check out the Five Stones location.

A first for Haven Holiday Parks, the pub marked the 829th Wetherpoons the pair have visited.

They commented on the location’s “nice inclusive atmosphere” during their visit, adding that they’re “huge fans” of the chain.#

“We love the breakfasts and the ambience. You walk into a Wetherspoons anywhere and you’ll always find someone to have a chat to,” said Hilary.

Andy and Gill Bishop, who operate holiday apartment in the area, described the pub as a “bonus” to the already popular destination.

Previously the Mash and Barrel bar, some loyal patrons have been frequenting the location for over 40 years.

Both locals and tourists alike appreciate the large outdoor seating area, which provides a “safe and welcoming place for families to relax”.

As well as hosting a brand new Wetherspoons, the Devon Cliffs Holiday Park also has an indoor swimming pool, tube slides, and even a beach bar.

And before there was ever a rumour of a Spoons, a famous footballer has been a regular visitor of the Kent Coast location.

New plans revealed another location could open at Haven Presthaven, if given the go-ahead.

If you’re more interested in Wetherspoons than Haven parks, the biggest one is located on the beach.

The prettiest Wetherspoons is also located by the sea and features huge stained glass windows.
