Darts fans spot Gerwyn Price ‘going full Ashley Cole’ in promo photo for Premier League launch

GERWYN PRICE has darts fans in hysterics after inadvertently “doing an Ashley Cole” in a squad photo.

The Welshman, 39, was pictured along with the rest of this season’s cast of Premier League darts.

Fans have said the picture has the same ‘vibes’ as Ashley Cole’s appearance in Roma’s 2014 team photo

Fans have reacted to the picture on social media as they have spotted the similar pose to that of arguably the Prem’s best-ever left-back Cole.

The former Chelsea and Arsenal defender had a similar stance in his squad photo when he was at Roma in 2014.

Price’s pose seems more accidental if anything, but fans are drawing comparisons.

One wrote on X: “A solid effort from Gerwyn Price at recreating the famous Ashley Cole team photo at the Premier League media day.”

A second said: “Gerwyn ‘Cole’ Price”.

A third added: “Price doing his best football player impression.”

Another replied: “Price is standing on the side as if he wants to go straight home again.”

While one more joked: “Price looks like WWE wrestler Brock Lesnar.”

Another user put a cut-out of Price’s head over former England coach Cole’s body.

Meanwhile, Price was contentiously picked as one of two wildcards, alongside Nathan Aspinall, this year.

Despite poor 2024 seasons, critics have argued that their selection was partly due to their stage presence and popularity with fans.

Mike De Decker didn’t mince words, branding his exclusion as “scandalous” and arguing that neither Price nor Aspinall merited their places.

But world No.9 Price has admitted he rediscovered his love for darts in time to feature in the tournament, which kicks off tonight.

During his sticky spell, Price had suggested he would snub any invite to the tournament to focus on himself.

The Iceman told talkSPORT: “Like I said I had time off, not that I wanted to.

“I had a little bit of a break, I missed out on the Grand Slam not qualifying for that.

“I don’t think there’s any pressure on me anymore. When you’re world number one when you’re at the top of the tree, you want to stay there.”

He started off 2025 with a bang, finishing runner-up to Stephen Bunting at the Bahrain Darts Masters, after beating Luke Littler in the quarter-finals.

Price is a former world champion, having clinched the PDC World Championship in 2021.

He has also been victorious in the World Grand Prix, the World Series of Darts Finals twice, and has won three Grand Slam of Darts titles.

He is set to compete in the Premier League against Nathan Dobey on Thursday.
