‘Could be better’ – Lindsey Vonn, 40, in worrying update as she ramps up Olympics prep after sharing medical mask pic

SKIING legend Lindsey Vonn issued a worrying update just hours before her first World Championship race in six years.

The 40-year-old came out of retirement in October after initially hanging up her skis in 2019.

Vonn was forced to step away from competition after suffering a serious knee injury.

The former Olympic champion is back competing after receiving a titanium knee replacement.

Vonn went off in the Super G on Thursday morning in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria.

Just hours before the off, Vonn posted a snap wearing an oxygen mask to her 2 million Instagram followers.

She captioned the pic: “Current state…could be better.”

Vonn revealed on Tuesday she was suffering from illness in the run-up to the event.

She told AP: “I definitely have a cold or the flu or something.

“Yesterday afternoon I started to really not feel well. [I’m] trying to do everything I can to recover.

“Today’s training was fine. I definitely lacked energy, especially on the bottom of the course.

“But hopefully I can rest the rest of today and be ready for the Super-G tomorrow.”

Vonn also suffered a high-speed crash during training last month.

She suffered a painful fall towards the end of a World Cup downhill training run on the Olympia delle Tofane course in Italy.

After the incident, Vonn confirmed to The Associated Press: “I’m good.

“I just caught a lot of air off the second-to-last jump and I just landed and my ski kind of caught funny.

“My bum is sore but otherwise I’m good.”

Vonn hooked a panel during her first run on Thursday, appearing in visible pain as she grabbed her right shoulder.

But she was able to reach the end of the run, as she looks to reignite her Olympic dream.

The eight-time world medallist is next set to compete in the women’s downhill on Saturday.
