CEO ‘assassin’ Luigi Mangione ‘couldn’t have sex or date’ before murder and told roommate of his frustrations

The man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare’s chief executive was yearning for a normal lifestyle, but a severe back issue made it impossible for him to have sex, a former roommate revealed.

Luigi Mangione, 26, was arrested on Monday following a six-day manhunt and charged with the December 4 cold-blooded murder of healthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan.

Mangione, a “well-educated” Ivy League graduate, comes from an affluent Italian-American family that owns a real estate empire in Baltimore County in Maryland.

His arrest shocked family members and friends, who described Mangione as a non-violent person and remembered him as more of a “friendly and thoughtful leader.”

“He was a very thoughtful person. Communicated really well, was friendly. Had good relationships with everyone. He was even, in some ways, a bit of a leader,” RJ Martin, the founder of Surfbreak, a co-living community in Honolulu, Hawaii, told CNN.

Martin, who befriended Mangione and initially interviewed him for a space at the co-living community, described the alleged assassin’s back problems that at times left him bedridden from basic surf lessons.

He knew that dating and being physically intimate with his back condition wasn’t possible. I remember him telling me that, and my heart just breaks.

RJ Martin

“His back was kind of misaligned,” Martin told The New York Times.

“He said his lower vertebrae were almost like a half-inch off, and I think it pinched a nerve.

“Sometimes he’d be doing well and other times not.”

Martin recalled the difficult and traumatic condition Mangione was in and confided in him and several other roommates how he was incapable of being in a relationship due to his back issues.

“He knew that dating and being physically intimate with his back condition wasn’t possible,” Martin added.

“I remember him telling me that, and my heart just breaks.”

‘There’s a Littler hype, which overshadows Humphries, & that’s not really fair’ – Darts star Van Gerwen in brutal blast

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN believes that it is “unfair” that the hype surrounding Luke Littler has “overshadowed” Luke Humphries’ exceptional year.

The trio are all set to compete in the World Darts Championship later this month.

Littler, 17, has had an incredible 2024, having burst onto the scene at last year’s Alexandra Palace showpiece.

But Van Gerwen still believes that Humphries reigns supreme.

Asked by Viaplay who the best player in the world is, the Dutchman claimed: “I think it’s Luke Humphries.”

When it was put to him that many may prefer Littler, the 35-year-old added: “But I don’t agree with that.

“That’s just because there’s a Littler hype, which kind of overshadows Humphries, and that’s not really fair.”

Littler has won the Premier League, Grand Slam and World Series of Darts this season.

Humphries, meanwhile, holds the World Championship, the Players Championship, World Matchplay and the World Cup, while being far clear at No1 in the PDC’s Order of Merit.

Van Gerwen’s Dutch compatriot Vincent van der Voort, 48, agrees with MVG’s stance.

He added: “I do think Littler’s peak might be a bit higher, but Humphries is the most complete player right now.

“Littler is spectacular. When he’s in full flow, you think, ‘Wow, what am I even watching?’.

“But if you look at the results across the whole year, Humphries is just much more consistent.”

Littler was today confirmed as the most Google searched athlete of 2024 in the UK, ahead of the likes of Lamine Yamal and Simone Biles.

He was the third-most Googled person in the UK this year, only behind Kate Middleton and Donald Trump, and ahead of the likes of Keir Starmer and King Charles.

I’m homeless living in my car and it’s -7C outside – I still make it warm & toasty, my heated pillow tip is a lifesaver

A WOMAN living in her car shared the hack she uses to stay warm during cold winter nights.

As temperatures plummeted, she stayed “snug as a bug” with a handy trick.

Homeless TikToker Jamie showed her followers how she stays warm at night while sleeping in her car[/caption]

In her video, TikTok user Jamie (@heavytraveler) showed her followers the process she uses to get ready for bed each night.

The US-based poster previously revealed that issues with her disability payments meant she had to leave her flat.

With nowhere left to turn to, she was forced to live out of her car full-time.

She parks up her car in different spots each night to stay safe and avoid fines.

These areas include residential neighbourhoods, campsites, and truck stops.

While she adapted to the change in lifestyle in the warmer weather, winter has brought harsh living conditions for Jamie.

She revealed that the temperature had dropped to around minus seven degrees-Celsius.

Preparing to go to sleep, she began by turning on her car’s heater for “15 to 20 minutes.”

She also secured privacy curtains to her windows as well as a foil cover to her windscreen.

Jamie used a sleeping bag designed to withstand low temperatures to create her bed in the backseat.

However, it was her pillow hack that helps her feel “all warm and toasty.”

She revealed that she makes good use of her car’s heater while she runs it.

“I always put my pillow up here in the front with me while I’m heating up my car so it gets nice and warm because I hate sleeping on an ice cold pillow,” Jamie told her audience.

Once her pillow was sufficiently warm, she placed it on her backseat bed.

The TikToker pointed out how well the trick worked for keeping her warm throughout the night.

Rules on living in a car

CAR LIVING is on the up as people struggle to deal with the cost of living crisis, and others are seeking a nomadic existence.

Here’s all we know about the rules on car life in the UK.

In the UK, you are legally allowed to live in your car— just so long as you follow a few rules.

The only requirement is that your car has passed its MOT and is entirely road-legal.

If legally parked, there aren’t rules against sleeping or living in a car.

The trend of car or van living has taken off in the United States, where some have been forced to leave rented accommodation after landlords put up the rent.

Others have opted to live in their vehicle in pursuit of a free, nomadic lifestyle, where they can travel all over the country.

There are certain circumstances in which it’s not legal to sleep in a car in the UK.

Firstly, you must be in a safe parking spot, not in violation of any parking restrictions.

Certain car parks, lay-bys, and national parks and forests have restrictions on overnight parking, which means you can’t sleep there in a vehicle.

If restrictions are broken, you could be fined or even have your vehicle towed.

Secondly, you must not be above the legal drink-drive limit or under the influence of any drugs, if you intend to sleep in your car.

If over the limit, you could be charged with being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle in a public place, even if you’re not driving.

The ban on sleeping in your car when you’re drunk comes under the Road Traffic Act 1988.

The rule says you can be found guilty of an offence if in charge of a vehicle on a road or public place “after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath, blood or urine exceeds the prescribed limit.”

“Even though it’s going to be frigid, I’m going to be super cosy and comfortable, it’s a process but it’s worth it,” she said.

TikTok users shared their thoughts on the set-up in the comments section.

“I’m wishing you the bests, you’ll have a warm apartment soon, don’t worry, you’re doing great,” wrote one viewer.

“I hope everything gets better for you, stay safe,” said another follower.

“I really hope you’re fine and safe, your energy despite everything is radiant, lots of love, honey,” commented a third person.

Netflix let Harry and Meghan make a doc about a sport only wealthy people play – who’s REALLY going to watch it?

NETFLIX let Prince Harry and Meghan Markle make a documentary about a sport only wealthy people play, a royal expert has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s polo series has aired on Netflix today.

The sport and lavish lifestyle that comes with polo is explored on Harry’s Netflix series[/caption]
Phil Dampier said he wasn’t sure their new show would appeal to a massive audience

Harry and Meghan are executive producers of the five-episode series which is shot primarily at the US Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida.

But journalist and author Phil Dampier said he wasn’t sure their new show would appeal to a massive audience.

He told The Sun: “Polo is a very niche sport. It’s very much a sport for very wealthy people.

“The average person can’t afford a polo mallet or stick let alone a horse or a horse box.

“I don’t think it’s going to attract many new players.”

Mr Dampier continued: “I spent many, many days watching the royals play polo and I have to say it’s pretty boring.

“It’s very much one of those sports where people who are in it are enjoying it.

“But as a spectator sport it’s not terribly exciting. It’s mainly about the social scene.

“People swilling champagne, wearing very smart clothes and hobnobbing with each other off the pitch.”

The Sussexes make an appearance themselves in episode five with the pair shown sharing a kiss on the podium.

And Mr Dampier also questioned why their appearance in the show was so brief.

He said: “The main problem for Netflix is that Harry and Meghan are hardly in this program.

“There are five parts and they only make a brief appearance in the 5th episode.

“I think for the amount of money they’re paying them reputed to be upwards of 80 to 100 million dollars.

How Meghan and Harry are investing their Netflix millions

HARRY and Meghan have begun investing their Netflix millions in a property portfolio.

They have bought a new home in Portugal, around the corner from Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband.

But the Sussexes, who have been spending an increasing amount of time apart, do not plan to live in their new pad, The Sun understands.

It is not known if the property will be rented out, used for Airbnb-style holiday lets or used purely to park money.

But it is seen as the first step of putting earnings from their TV and book deals into a global property empire.

“They’re being smart with their money,” a source said.

They pocketed £75million from streaming giant Netflix where they laid into fellow royals in a six-part series.

Meanwhile Harry, who got a £15million advance for his autobiography Spare, also inherited £8million from the late Queen Mother after turning 40 in September.

Palace insiders have been concerned about what will happen when the Sussexes run out of cash.

They have huge overheads, forking out a fortune on security in the US and for when Harry visits the UK.

And they are still paying a mortgage on the £11million Montecito mansion they bought after quitting as working royals in 2020.

Insiders say the Portugal home will be part of a financial portfolio which will include more real estate.

“I don’t think they’re getting a great deal of Harry and Meghan… not getting much bang for their buck.

“I’m not quite sure why Netflix have done this.”

The series by Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Productions is their fourth output with Netflix as part of their multi-million pound deal with the streaming giant.

It follows elite global players on and off the field, with the “sexy” sport billed in the trailer as showcasing “dirty, sweaty boys…riding”.

The documentary is the Sussexes’ first since Heart Of Invictus, which aired some 16 months ago.

It followed Live To Lead, about leaders who have dedicated themselves to social justice, in 2022, and before that, the couple’s controversial six-part Harry & Meghan documentary.

In Harry & Meghan, the duke and duchess shed light on their troubled life within the royal family, accusing Kensington Palace of lying to protect William, and Charles, now King, of lying at the Megxit summit.

Another non-fiction series for Netflix, produced by Meghan, on “the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining and friendship” is in production.

The Sun has approached the Sussexes for comment.

How much your Christmas dinner has gone up in price this year – and the staple that has risen the most

THE cost of an average Christmas dinner has jumped by more than inflation amid soaring prices of turkey and vegetables, industry figures show.

The price of an average festive lunch for four has increased to £32.57, up by 6.5% compared to last year, analysis by Kantar shows.

KANTAR
The graph shows how much a Christmas dinner has gone up by[/caption]

Potatoes have had the biggest rise, with the humble spud 16.2 per cent higher than last year at £1.65.

The price of cauliflower is 14.6% more expensive at £1.18 than last year, followed by 71p parsnips, which are 12.7% higher and carrots at 49p, which are 11.4% dearer than last year.

The average frozen turkey is 8.5% more expensive than last year at £13.08, the Kantar analysis shows.

There is some good news though as the average price of sparkling wine remains unchanged at £6.40, the only part of a festive meal that hasn’t increased compared to last year.

Vegetable prices have been particularly hit by wet weather earlier this year which waterlogged fields and affected harvests.

Potato farmers have been particularly hard hit by bad weather, which delayed planting crops and harvesting, and rising energy costs.

Once potatoes are harvested they are often kept in a cold store, which work like giant fridges, and requires a lot of electricity to keep running.

Supermarkets have made “festive veg” promotions a big part of their price wars with rivals in the annual battle to win Christmas shoppers.

Industry sources say grocers are likely to repeat their cut-price offers on vegetables, such as 15p bags of carrots, this year.

The festive promotions typically launch the week before Christmas with most supermarkets beginning to sell fresh turkeys on December 19.

Grocers are expected to use their loyalty cards, such as Tesco Clubcard, Sainsbury’s Nectar and Morrisons More card, to offer shoppers lower prices.

Supermarkets are expected to rake in a record £13billion over the festive period this year.

Experts at Kantar warn that Monday, December 23 will be the busiest shopping day in supermarkets, with big queues at the tills to be expected.

Fraser McKevitt, head of retail and consumer insight at Kantar, said Monday December 23 is “likely to be the single busiest day for the supermarkets this year”.

“Sales of assorted sweet biscuits and biscuits for cheese both doubled in November compared with the month before, while 8% of us bought a Christmas pudding.”

HOW TO SHOP AROUND FOR THE BEST BARGAIN

When hunting for a deal it is important to shop around to make sure you are not being overcharged.

There are plenty of comparison websites out there that’ll check prices for you – so don’t be left paying more than you have to.

Most of them work by comparing the prices across hundreds of retailers.

For example, Google Shopping is a tool that lets users search for and compare prices for products across the web. Simply type in keywords, or a product number, to bring up search results.

Price Spy also logs the history of how much something costs from over 3,000 different retailers, including ArgosAmazoneBay and the supermarkets.

Once you select an individual product you can quickly compare which stores have the best price and which have it in stock.

How to save money on Christmas shopping

Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how you can save money on your Christmas shopping.

Limit the amount of presents – buying presents for all your family and friends can cost a bomb.

Instead, why not organise a Secret Santa between your inner circles so you’re not having to buy multiple presents.

Plan ahead – if you’ve got the stamina and budget, it’s worth buying your Christmas presents for the following year in the January sales.

Make sure you shop around for the best deals by using price comparison sites so you’re not forking out more than you should though.

Buy in Boxing Day sales – some retailers start their main Christmas sales early so you can actually snap up a bargain before December 25.

Delivery may cost you a bit more, but it can be worth it if the savings are decent.

Shop via outlet stores – you can save loads of money shopping via outlet stores like Amazon Warehouse or Office Offcuts.

They work by selling returned or slightly damaged products at a discounted rate, but usually any wear and tear is minor.
