Dortmund star Nico Schlotterbeck rushed to hospital after horror injury leaving manager in ‘shock’

BORUSSIA DORTMUND centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck was rushed to hospital after suffering what appeared to be a serious injury against Barcelona.

The 25-year-old fell awkwardly on his ankle while attempting to equalise late in the Champions League match.

With the score 3-2 to Barcelona at Signal Iduna Park, a free kick from Pascal Gross found Schlotterbeck in the box.

The defender’s headed effort flew narrowly over the crossbar and he severely twisted his ankle while landing.

Referee François Letexier immediately called the team doctors over before ending the match for full-time.

After receiving some immediate treatment, he was eventually stretchered off the pitch.

He was later filmed being loaded into an ambulance.

Dortmund manager Nuri Sahin provided an update on Schlotterbeck’s injury during his post-match press conference.

He explained: “The sight was terrible. We have to deal with this shock.

“If you look at the images, it doesn’t look good. A sleepless night awaits.”

BVB sporing director Sebastian Kehl later added: “His foot is thickly bandaged. We’ll await the diagnosis tomorrow.”

And midfielder Emre Can said: “He was in a lot of pain on the pitch. I hope it’s not too bad.”

Dortmund went on to lose the match 3-2 against Barcelona.

Raphinha opened the scoring for the visitors just after half-time.

Serhou Guirassy then equalised but Ferran Torres restored Barcelona’s lead.

Guirassy levelled things up again, but Torres responded by netting the winner in the 85th minute.

Map & bible hold vital clues to identify mysterious ‘Man in the Woods’ 45 years after skeletal remains of tourist found

A MAP and a bible hold vital clues to identify a mysterious “Man in the Woods” 45 years after his skeletal remains were found.

So-called “Glamorgan Man” was found in the remote Rheola Forest near Port Talbot in south Wales on December 9, 1979.

Cold case charity Locate International said he was a possible visitor from South Africa.

He is believed to have died between nine and 18 months before he was found.

A Salvation Testament bible was found along with Glamorgan Man’s skeletal remains.

The bible bore the name D MALAN and a partial address in Randburg near Johannesburg in South Africa.

Detectives also found handwriting on an envelope outlining plans for an internal flight within South Africa to Durban.

The handwriting appeared to match the inscriptions on the bible, Locate said.

Other clues found on the body include a include a commemorative bookmark for a Christian mission in King William’s Town, now known as Qonce.

Another was a South African Airways timetable of flights from London to Johannesburg dated 1977.

A small amount of cash in US and Canadian dollars suggested the man was a frequent traveller.

He also had a map of south Wales and some blank headed notepaper from the Heathrow Sheraton hotel.

Glamorgan Man was aged between 40 and 60 years old, according to the new appeal.

He was of a stocky build and between 5ft8 inches and 5ft10 inches tall.

The man is likely to have walked with a heavy limp as his right knee was fused when his remains were discovered.

He may also have worn dentures as he did not have teeth, the volunteer investigators say.

Glamorgan Man wore brown twill trousers with a size 30″ inside leg, a blue shirt, a light brown V neck jumper size 40” chest, grey socks and brown size 8 shoes.

He had a holdall containing grey trousers, two more shirts and a pair of green socks.

Detectives are confident someone in Wales or South Africa will remember him, despite the passage of time.

Locate’s CEO Mark Greenhalgh said: “He would have stood out to anyone who encountered him at the time.

“Think back to 1978 and where you were at that time, and who you knew.”

In a fresh appeal, Greenhalgh added: “Who could you ask that might be able to help?

“Even the smallest piece of information you have can make a difference, and help return Glamorgan Man’s identity after all this time.”

Hibs Hall of Fame hero and ex-Dunfermline star Alex Edwards dies as tributes pour in

HIBS Hall of Fame hero Alex Edwards has died aged 78.

The Easter Road club announced the former winger’s passing this morning, calling him a “true Hibs legend.”

Edwards started off at the Pars in 1961, being handed his debut by the legendary manager Jock Stein.

His first game came just after he turned 16, which made him the second-youngest player at the time to have played in the Scottish Football League.

He played for Dunfermline for ten years, playing in the Scottish Cup final in both 1965 and 1968, lifting the trophy in the latter.

In 1971, Hibs manager Eddie Turnbull signed Edwards for a reported £13,000 fee and they made the Scottish Cup final the following year.

The year after that, the team who would go down as “Turnbull’s Tornadoes” beat Celtic 2-1 in front of a crowd of over 70,000 at Hampden to lift the club’s first League Cup.

Edwards was inducted into the Hibs Hall of Fame just a few months ago alongside fellow modern and classic Leith heroes.

When he left the capital club in ’78 he saw out the last two years of his career with Arbroath.

A Hibs statement read: “Hibernian FC is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of a true Hibs legend, Alex Edwards.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club are with Alex’s family and loved ones.

“Rest in peace, Mickey.”

Dunfermline Athletic have also paid tribute, saying: “Everyone at Dunfermline Athletic is hugely saddened to hear of the passing of Pars legend, Alex Edwards.

“A star in our 6-2 win over Valencia in December 1962, Alex mesmerised defences helping the club to their highest ever league position. European success and two Scottish Cup Finals, the second of which Dunfermline won in 1968, were followed by further glory with Hibernian, before finishing his career at Arbroath.

“Our thoughts are with Alex’s family, friends and team mates at this difficult time.

“A full tribute to Alex will follow in due course.”

Fans of his past clubs have offered their tributes online.

One Hibs supporter said: “A favourite of my dad and my uncles who all grew up watching the Tornadoes. He will be sadly missed.”

A Pars fan added: “Very sad news. A legend and Hall of Fame member for both Hibs and Dunfermline.

“Before my time but my dad thought he was the greatest ever Dunfermline player in what was a golden period for the club.”

I caught a plane passenger in all her glory with her pants down – the scene was so bad the pilot thought I was joking

AN AIR stewardess has left people stunned after revealing the most shocking situation she’s ever come across at work.

She explained that she was working alongside two colleagues on an early morning two-hour flight from Los Angeles to Seattle.

She revealed the police met the woman on the plane when they landed[/caption]

As they’d finished serving refreshments, she and her workmates were just chatting in the galley, at which point she spotted “bare feet up on the headrests in front of them”.

Immediately, she headed down to the passenger to tell her to get her feet off the seat.

“And I’m not joking….” she said in the video on her TikTok page.

“Pants, underwear around her knees, feet up on the seat – in all her glory.

“I mean, her eyes were rolling in the back of her head.

“She was not there. I go, ‘Ma’am’. Nothing.”

The stewardess didn’t know what to do, so grabbed a blanket and threw it over her.

She then called the pilots on the airplane phone, but their first reaction was that she was joking.

“I go, ‘Pal, I’ve never been so serious about anything in my life!'” she raged.

It was as she was talking to the pilots that the woman finished her session, and “immediately fell asleep with the blanket over her”.

She stayed asleep for the rest of the flight, until they started to prepare to land, and had to check all passengers had their seatbelts on.

But her colleagues insisted she was in charge of the woman.

When she went to try and rouse her, the woman looked “so out of it” and “confused”.

She gave her a minute, before asking the passenger if she remembered anything during the flight, to which she replied that she didn’t.

So she had to them tell her to “stay seated when we land because the police are coming”.

The pilots had alerted the authorities, and police were going to meet the passenger on the plane when they’d landed.

Is there an official dress code for flights?

WHILE there are no official airline rules on what you can and can't wear on board, there are some unspoken guidelines, as passengers have been kicked off a flight for their choice of clothing.

If you can, avoid dirty or torn clothes, anything with slogans that may be deemed offensive or contain any rude language

Some airlines do allow flip-flops, but others may not accept you on board if you’re wearing beach attire or something too revealing.

It’s also important to check whether your destination has specific laws or local customs around clothing, as the airline may expect passengers to adhere to these before boarding.

For example, Qatar Airways have a dress code as the mid-point is a conservative Muslim country.

If passengers visit Doha as a stopover, they must observe the strict dress codes which include no sleeveless shirts, and pants must be no higher than your knees.

It’s a good idea to opt for clothes which are comfortable such as jeans and a nice top.

Bring layers – flights can get chilly and if you do experience a member of the cabin crew asking you to cover up, you’re already prepared.

Overall, think smart casual.

“I told her what happened and she was still kind of out of it, but I think the shock was really kind of waking her up,” the stewardess continued.

“But as we landed, she kept like trying to explain to me, she took Ambien like she doesn’t remember what happened, but that was it.”

She admitted she had no idea what had happened to the woman after that, adding: “All I know is the police escorted her off the plane and we had to write a report and that was that.”

People were quick to comment on the shocking tale, with one writing: “I feel so bad for her!”

“That’s actually so scary, poor lady having no recollection of it,” another said.

“Taking an Ambien and then waking up and being told you did that and are about to be detained would be horrifying,” a third insisted.

“Okay but when you got to ambien it all made perfect sense,” someone else wrote.

“My wife and I have had sex while on ambien with 0 memories of it.

“It’s a hell of a drug. Definitely only take at home.”

Putin missile boss SHOT DEAD in Moscow ‘assassination’ after masterminding production of weapons blitzing Ukrainians

A LEADING Putin missile boss has been shot dead in Moscow after masterminding the production of weapons blitzing Ukraine.

Mikhail Shatsky was gunned down by an unknown assassin in Kuzminsky forest park, with his dead body left laying in the snow.

Reports say the scientist, an associate professor, was working actively on upgrading the Russian Kh-59 cruise missile.

There was immediate speculation that he was assassinated by Russia’s enemy – the Ukrainian military intelligence.

Exiled Russian journalist Alexander Nevzorov published macabre pictures of a man’s body laying in the snow after being shot dead.

He said the deceased person was “a particularly malicious criminal” – Mikhail Shatsky.

Nevzorov added: “He was involved in upgrading the Kh-59 cruise missiles to the Kh-69 level, introducing new UAVs, and is responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent Ukrainians.”

Russian APN news agency reported: “As a result of the shooting in Kotelniki on December 11, Mikhail Shatsky, the head of the software department of the Mars Design Bureau, was killed.

“He was engaged in the modernisation of the X-59 cruise missiles and developed the latest types of UAVs [military drones].

“Ukrainian nationalists claimed responsibility for the murder.”

There was no immediate official Russian statement.

Ukraine’s public broadcaster Suspilne said it had received confirmation from Ukrainian “special services” that Shatsky had been “eliminated”.

Footage showed Russian emergency services arriving at the snow-covered scene.

Earlier there had been reports of a shooting at the park location on Tuesday without any identification of the victim.

The Kh-59 has been more closely linked to the Raduga Design Bureau than to Mars, which now dead Shatsky worked for.

But Mars had been involved in the modernisation and production of control systems for booster units and onboard control systems for Raduga-designed missiles like the Kh-59 and Kh-69.

Both the Kh-59 and Kh-69 air-launched cruise missiles have been widely used by Putin’s forces against Ukraine in the war.

Reports said no arrests had been made linked to the shock shooting.

Nationalist pro-Putin media outlet Tsargrad demanded: “Why wasn’t an expert of such level guarded in any way?”

The latest suspected killing follows the assassination of Russian GRU military intelligence officer Nikita Klenkov, 44, in October.

He was killed as he drove his Hyundai Palisade SUV close to his home at military town Solnechnogorsk-2 in Moscow region.
