Being a ‘weekend warrior’ is just as good for you as exercising every day – ‘reducing your risk of early death’

EXERCISING just two days a week is enough to slash your risk of disease or early death, according to research.

It found the “weekend warrior” approach is as healthy as working out every day.

The schedule works better for people with busy weeks as they can cram in the NHS-recommended 2.5 hours of weekly exercise into just two days.

Data from 93,000 Brits found the tactic led to a significantly lower risk of premature death, heart disease or cancer.

Experts from Southern Medical University in China said the key is simply to hit the total time minute target, regardless of how you break it down.

Study author Dr Zhi-Hao Li said: “You don’t need to exercise every day to stay healthy.

“As long as you get 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week, whether packed into one to two days or spread out, you can significantly reduce your risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, cancer or other causes.

“This message is encouraging news for busy people who struggle to fit in daily workouts but can manage a concentrated burst of activity on weekends or over a couple of days.

“The research provides reassuring evidence that even sporadic physical activity can have lasting health benefits.”

You still get health benefits even if you can only be active on the weekends

Dr Keith DiazAmerican Heart Association

Dr Li used eight years’ worth of medical records and activity data from 93,409 middle-aged people in the UK.

It showed that “weekend warriors” who crammed their exercise into two days were 32 per cent less likely to die young than people who did not exercise.

Their risk of dying from heart disease was 31 per cent lower and of cancer 21 per cent lower.

Dr Li said it was surprising to see the risk reductions were equal to those seen in people who exercised every day.

The NHS says moderate-to-vigorous exercise can include a brisk walk, cycling, tennis, running, swimming, aerobics, lifting weights or team sports – and even gardening.

Health boost outweighs injury risk

Dr Keith Diaz, of the American Heart Association, was not involved with the study but said: “Many people struggle to fit in daily exercise during the work week but this research shows that you can still gain health benefits even if you can only be active on the weekends.

“One important caveat to remember is that trying to fit 150 minutes of exercise into just one or two days can be a lot on your body.

“Some research suggests that weekend warriors have a slightly higher risk of injuries but the benefits of exercising just on the weekend far outweigh the potential risks.

“Make sure you do proper warm-ups and build up to higher volumes of activity over time to reduce your risk.”

I dropped 8 stone & 8 dress sizes in 6 months on Mounjaro – I’ve got no loose skin but did have a disgusting side effect

A WOMAN has revealed that she lost over eight stone and is now eight dress sizes smaller after using Mounjaro for six months.

Victoria Watson, who is from the UK, confirmed that prior to using fat jabs, she was a size 24.

But after using weight loss injections for half a year, the content creator was able to slim down to a size 8.

Now, the young woman has taken to social media to show off her jaw-dropping weight loss, but experts and NHS medics warn about the dangers of taking such medications without a prescription.

While Victoria didn’t suffer majorly with vomiting or constipation, two common Mounjaro consequences, she did claim to experience one disgusting side effect – sulfur burps

Mounjaro, regarded by some as the King Kong of weight loss jabs, could soon be rolled out on the NHS.

Sun GP Dr Zoe Williams claimed it can save the lives of people with “life-threatening levels of obesity”.

But despite this, the NHS warned: “Never take an anti-obesity medicine if it has not been prescribed to you. These types of medicines may not be safe for you and can cause serious side effects.”

About half a million Brits use weight loss drugs – and the number is expected to double in the next year.

Mounjaro works by suppressing your appetite, making people feel fuller for longer.

The injections are licensed for patients with type 2 diabetes and to assist those who are clinically obese (with a Body Mass Index of 30 or over).

One jab is administered each week but the duration is dependent on someone’s weight.

The drugs can be lawfully supplied when prescribed by a practitioner – such as a doctor, nurse or a pharmacist-independent prescriber.

But increasingly, people have been buying them through online pharmacies with insufficient checks.

Only recently, figures from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency revealed fat jabs had been linked to 82 deaths across the UK.

And the family of a man from Burton upon Trent, Staffs, who died after taking Mounjaro, are now calling for a probe into the jab’s “potential to kill”.

Despite the dangers, Victoria eagerly praised the effects of the fat jabs on her body

In a short clip which was captioned ‘The difference. Over 8 stone loss. 8 sizes smaller’, Victoria shared her jaw-dropping six month Mounjaro glow-up transformation, leaving many totally stunned.

At the start of the short video, we saw Victoria prior to her weight loss.

At a size 24, Victoria wore a baggy t-shirt and a puffer coat, in an attempt to cover up her body.

But seconds later, after slimming down to a size 8, the content creator proudly showed off her new physique, as she posed in the mirror wearing a black long-sleeved tight top and a pair of black trousers.

Victoria confirmed that whilst taking Mounjaro, she ate in a calorie deficit

Everything you need to know about fat jabs

Weight loss jabs are all the rage as studies and patient stories reveal they help people shed flab at almost unbelievable rates, as well as appearing to reduce the risk of serious diseases.

Wegovy – a modified version of type 2 diabetes drug Ozempic – and Mounjaro are the leading weight loss injections used in the UK.

Wegovy, real name semaglutide, has been used on the NHS for years while Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a newer and more powerful addition to the market.

Mounjaro accounts for most private prescriptions for weight loss and is set to join Wegovy as an NHS staple this year.

How do they work?

The jabs work by suppressing your appetite, making you eat less so your body burns fat for energy instead and you lose weight.

They do this my mimicking a hormone called GLP-1, which signals to the brain when the stomach is full, so the drugs are officially called GLP-1 receptor agonists.

They slow down digestion and increase insulin production, lowering blood sugar, which is why they were first developed to treat type 2 diabetes in which patients’ sugar levels are too high.

Can I get them?

NHS prescriptions of weight loss drugs, mainly Wegovy and an older version called Saxenda (chemical name liraglutide), are controlled through specialist weight loss clinics.

Typically a patient will have to have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, classifying them as medically obese, and also have a weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure.

GPs generally do not prescribe the drugs for weight loss.

Private prescribers offer the jabs, most commonly Mounjaro, to anyone who is obese (BMI of 30+) or overweight (BMI 25-30) with a weight-related health risk.

Private pharmacies have been rapped for handing them out too easily and video calls or face-to-face appointments are now mandatory to check a patient is being truthful about their size and health.

Are there any risks?

Yes – side effects are common but most are relatively mild.

Around half of people taking the drug experience gut issues, including sickness, bloating, acid reflux, constipation and diarrhoea.

Dr Sarah Jarvis, GP and clinical consultant at patient.info, said: “One of the more uncommon side effects is severe acute pancreatitis, which is extremely painful and happens to one in 500 people.”

Other uncommon side effects include altered taste, kidney problems, allergic reactions, gallbladder problems and hypoglycemia.

Evidence has so far been inconclusive about whether the injections are damaging to patients’ mental health.

Figures obtained by The Sun show that, up to January 2025, 85 patient deaths in the UK were suspected to be linked to the medicines.

While she controlled her diet, Victoria didn’t go to the gym, and instead, just focused on walking.

When it came to experiencing side effects, Victoria explained: “I’ve had no or minimal side effects.”

Despite this, she later confirmed: “I had sulfur burps a couple times when I went up to 10mg but that’s it really.”

I wish I started sooner! It’s been amazing

Victoria Watson

Sulfur burps, or burps with a rotten egg smell, occur due to the presence of hydrogen sulfide gas in the digestive tract.

Many Mounjaro users have confessed to suffering from such burps, which they have described as “absolutely disgusting”.

Despite experiencing the nasty burps, Victoria confirmed that she doesn’t have any loose skin after losing almost eight and a half stone.

What are sulfur burps and how can I reduce them?

SULFUR burps are burps that smell like rotten eggs due to the presence of hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) gas.

This gas is produced when sulfur-containing foods break down in the digestive system or when certain bacteria in the gut produce it during digestion.

Sulfur burps are also a common side effect of Mounjaro due to its effects on digestion and the gut microbiome. Here’s why:

Slower Digestion

Mounjaro slows gastric emptying, meaning food stays in your stomach longer. This can cause fermentation, leading to the production of hydrogen sulfide gas, which smells like rotten eggs.

Changes in Gut Bacteria

Mounjaro may alter the gut microbiome, leading to an overgrowth of certain bacteria that produce sulfur-containing gases. This is especially common if there’s an imbalance in gut flora.

High-Protein or High-Sulfur Diet

Since Mounjaro users often focus on high-protein diets for weight loss, foods like eggs, dairy, meat, and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower) can contribute to sulfur burps.

Gastrointestinal Side Effects

Mounjaro is known to cause bloating, nausea, diarrhoea, and constipation—all of which can contribute to sulfur burps by slowing digestion or altering gut bacteria.

How to reduce sulfur burps whilst using Mounjaro:

  • Eat smaller meals to help with digestion.
  • Stay hydrated to keep digestion moving.
  • Avoid high-sulfur foods (eggs, garlic, onions, carbonated drinks).
  • Probiotics may help balance gut bacteria
  • Ginger or peppermint tea can ease digestion.
  • Talk to your doctor if burps are severe or persistent.

Prior to her weight loss, Victoria was “obese, tired and depressed.”

She described herself as “unhappy and unhealthy”, but now, she feels “happy, healthy and confident”.

Reflecting on her Mounjaro journey, she beamed: “I wish I started sooner! It’s been amazing.

“If I can do it, anyone can.”

Social media users react

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @v.watson, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 109,900 views in just five days.

Not only this, but it’s also amassed 2,506 likes, 179 comments and 353 shares.

Amazing transformation, I’m sure you feel amazing

TikTok user

Social media users were gobsmacked by Victoria’s glow-up and many eagerly raced to the comments to express this.

One person said: “Unbelievable, different person, well done.”

Another added: “Looking absolutely gorgeous.”

What are the other side effects of weight loss jabs?

Like any medication, weight loss jabs can have side effects.

Common side effects of injections such as Ozempic include:

Nausea: This is the most commonly reported side effect, especially when first starting the medication. It often decreases over time as your body adjusts.

Vomiting: Can occur, often in conjunction with nausea.

Diarrhea: Some people experience gastrointestinal upset.

Constipation: Some individuals may also experience constipation.

Stomach pain or discomfort: Some people may experience abdominal pain or discomfort.

Reduced appetite: This is often a desired effect for people using Ozempic for weight loss.

Indigestion: Can cause a feeling of bloating or discomfort after eating.

Serious side effects can also include:

Pancreatitis: In rare cases, Ozempic may increase the risk of inflammation of the pancreas, known as pancreatitis, which can cause severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting.

Kidney problems: There have been reports of kidney issues, including kidney failure, though this is uncommon.

Thyroid tumors: There’s a potential increased risk of thyroid cancer, although this risk is based on animal studies. It is not confirmed in humans, but people with a history of thyroid cancer should avoid Ozempic.

Vision problems: Rapid changes in blood sugar levels may affect vision, and some people have reported blurry vision when taking Ozempic.

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): Especially if used with other medications like sulfonylureas or insulin.

A third commented: “Outstanding! You look fab!”

Meanwhile, someone else chimed in and wrote: “Amazing transformation, I’m sure you feel amazing.”

To this, Victoria replied and confirmed: “I feel loads better.”

Hollywood superstar Anne Hathaway sends clear message to Bukayo Saka as marks Arsenal return with winning goal

ANNE HATHAWAY shared the delight of her fellow Arsenal fans after Bukayo Saka’s goalscoring return from injury.

The winger made his long-awaited comeback from hamstring surgery in last night’s 2-1 win over Fulham.

Saka came on soon after the hour mark and it took him just seven minutes to find the back of the net, heading in from close range at the back post.

It was a dream return for 23-year-old, who sprinted over to the dugout to celebrate with the Arsenal medical team.

And they were not the only ones thrilled to see Saka back amongst the goals – with Hollywood megastar Hathaway equally glad.

She took to Instagram after the game and posted a snap of herself in an Arsenal away kit.

Hathaway captioned the post “Welcome back #7” in reference to Saka.

Her love for Arsenal first came to light after she celebrated a Leandro Trossard goal during an interview promoting movie “The Idea of You” alongside co-star Nicholas Galitzine last year.

The Belgian then reached out to say he was aware of the video, with a star-struck Hathaway reacting: “Are you kidding? I’m shaking.”

Galitzine later revealed: “Anne Hathaway is a massive Arsenal supporter. I’m in a group chat with her family, who are all Arsenal supporters. [They’re] obsessed.”

The actress was not the only person joyed by Saka’s return, with Mikel Arteta saying: “I think it’s a beautiful moment to see how much our people love, respect and admire Bukayo.

“He’s not a surprise to any of us and I think the best example is his reaction. Immediately after scoring a goal, what does he do?

“He goes and says thank you for all the hard work that all the sports science guys, physios and everybody involved in the recovery have done for him to be in the condition that he is.

“I think he lifted the stadium, the energy and it’s great to have him back.”

On his celebration, Arteta added: “We all love this kind of recognition and gestures because it goes beyond the professional side of it.

“There is a connection there that is so necessary and to be able to appreciate as well the amount of work, stress and responsibility that they have to go through because they will be like this.

“I hope everything goes well and the work that we’ve done is going to work. So I was very pleased with that.”

Arsenal ratings v Fulham

ARSENAL had a night of mixed fortunes as they beat Fulham 2-1 at the Emirates.

Bukayo Saka not only returned but also scored after 101 days out.

But injuries to Gabriel and Jurrien Timber ahead of next week’s visit of Real Madrid took the gloss off the win.

Here’s How SunSport’s Josh Hall rated Mikel Arteta’s men on the night.

DAVID RAYA – 7

Week by week Raya is staking a claim as one of the best goalkeepers in the league.

He doesn’t have to face a barrage of shots as part of this Arsenal team, but rarely falters when he is called upon.

His distribution and preventative high claims are also among the best around.

There was little he could have done to stop Rodrigo Muniz’s deflected goal.

JURRIEN TIMBER – 6

It looked like the Dutchman’s night was going to be cut short around the half an hour mark when he went down clutching his knee.

Fortunately, he was able to play on and even managed to test Bend Leno with a stinging effort in the second half.

Unfortunately his earlier knock proved too much and he was taken off with a niggle in the 75th minute.

Arsenal could now be without at least two starting defenders for their clash with Real Madrid.

GABRIEL – N/A

Just when Arsenal fans thought they were creeping out of their injury crisis with the return of Bukayo Saka, they lose another top star.

Gabriel hobbled off after just 15 minutes to be replaced by Jakub Kiwior.

Arteta – and every Arsenal fan up and down the country – will be hoping the wall at the back will be fighting fit for their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid next week.

WILLIAM SALIBA – 6

Stepped up to the plate in Gabriel’s absence and looked assured both on and off the ball.

His frame did wonders to prevent Raul Jimenez from fashioning any chances in dangerous areas.

However, he wasn’t able to do enough to stop Rodrigo Muniz from batting it against him to pull a late goal back for Fulham.

MYLES LEWIS-SKELLY – 7

Every time you see Lewis-Skelly play you wonder how he’s only 18 and not a seasoned pro with years of experience at the top.

He didn’t set the world alight against the Cottagers, but looked just as assured and comfortable as he always does – this time without Gabriel by his side.

While he also made an important bloke to prevent Muniz after Fulham had pulled back a late goal.

Mikel Arteta has splashed the cash to have a plethora of options at left-back, yet it seems like the Hale End academy graduate is now the number one choice for that position.

THOMAS PARTEY – 7

Almost gifted Fulham a golden opportunity with a loose header in the first half, but saw David Raya pop up to save the day.

Despite a few loose touches he did enough to keep the ball moving in central areas.

He’s become an important starter for Arsenal this season, yet still seems to be on his way out in the summer on the expiration of his deal.

DECLAN RICE – 6

He’s not a glamorous footballer, but he’s always going to give 100 per cent no matter what.

Certainly not his worst game in an Arsenal shirt, but by no means his best.

MARTIN ODEGAARD – 5

Another frustrating night for the Arsenal captain who seems to have been unable to find the keys to unlock the low block his side faces each week.

The Norwegian is certainly one of the best talents in the league, but has only shown it in glimpses this season.

Arsenal as a whole looked a bit laboured and lacklustre at times, often that’s a result of the way Odegaard is playing. When he ticks, the whole team does too.

GABRIEL MARTINELLI – 9

Regularly made Timothy Castagne look silly throughout the match and get into dangerous positions by the byline.

But despite fashioning plenty of opportunities, the Brazilian was – as per usual – struggling with his end product in the first half.

It almost seemed as if every shot or final pass was rushed or snatched at for the opening 45 minutes.

That changed in the second half when his delightful flick perfectly teed up Bukayo Saka for a dream return to action.

Finally looked like he had the goal to top off a spectacular performance in the dying moments, but was deemed to be marginally offside when his effort found the back of the net.

ETHAN NWANERI – 7

Bright spark in the opening exchanges and volleyed one right down the throat of Bernd Leno in the 21st minute as he looked the most likely to find the back of the net at first.

Instead it was his cutback that helped open the scoring when he placed it on to the boot of Mikel Merino to poke home the first goal of the night.

Replaced by Saka in the second half in perhaps a foreshadowing of what might happen to his role in the squad for the remainder of the season.

MIKEL MERINO – 8

Merino has stepped up the role of of make-shift striker with the sort of professionalism you would want from any player in your team.

He might not make darting runs behind the back four, or curl delightful efforts round the keeper, but he’s certainly got a knack for goal.

His punt towards goal took a healthy deflection off Jorge Cuenca to send it into the corner, but he won’t care – now netting an impressive five goals in eight games as a centre-forward.

He almost made that six when he rifled another effort goalward from a corner in the 60th minute.

SUBS:

JAKUB KIWIOR – 4 (ON FOR GARBRIEL 15mins)

Always a tough task to replace one of the best defenders in the league, but didn’t do enough to impress at all.

Sloppily gave the ball away to gift a golden opportunity to Adama Traore in the second half, but was lucky to see the shot blazed wide.

He was partly to blame for leaving Rodrigo Muniz wide open for his wayward header on the 80th minute mark – once again saved by sloppy finishing.

With each game that passes it seems to be more obvious that the Polish international just isn’t at the required level.

BUKAYO SAKA – 8 (ON FOR NWANERI 66mins)

The Emirates erupted in its loudest cheer of the night when Saka made his return to action after 21 games and 101 days on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

That was until he nodded home the Gunners’ second just six minutes after crossing the line and an even louder roar bellowed around N5.

Arsenal have missed him dearly, and a return right before perhaps the biggest European game in the Emirates era could be crucial for Mikel Arteta’s side.

LEANDRO TROSSARD – 5 (ON FOR TIMBER 77mins)

Had very little impact on the match coming on so late, but did nick the ball off the foot of captain Odegaard who was lining up a thunderous effort.

Inside Meghan Trainor’s Mounjaro transformation & the special pills she’s taking to ‘age backwards’ & lip flip regrets

HER transformation has been one of Hollywood’s biggest talking points, and this week Meghan Trainor finally owned up to the secret behind it.

The Grammy winner openly acknowledged that she doesn’t look the same as she did “10 years ago”, admitting to being part of the Ozempic and Mounjaro trend – a movement that has reportedly swept up around 20 million people in the US.

After much speculation, the 31-year-old shared a post to her 18.3 million Instagram followers where she spoke about her journey towards becoming the “healthiest version of herself” for her children.

She wrote: “I’ve worked with a dietician, made huge lifestyle changes, started exercising with a trainer, and yes, I used science and support (shoutout to Mounjaro!) to help me after my 2nd pregnancy. And I’m so glad I did because I feel great.”

Meghan previously revealed that she developed gestational diabetes after welcoming her two sons – Riley, four, and Barry, 21 months – with her husband of six years, Spy Kids star Daryl Sabara.

In November 2022, the Grammy winner also shared that she lost 60 pounds after reaching her “heaviest” weight following the birth of her son Riley.

But could there be other treatments behind her transformation?

Cosmetic Dr. Aamer Khan, the medical lead at Harley Street Skin Clinic who runs a Weight Shift Programme with Ozempic to help people safely achieve their weight loss goals, commented: “Her significant weight loss, which may well now be more than 60 pounds, is purported to have been achieved by Mounjaro, which costs around £700–£1,000 per month.

“Meghan Trainor’s dramatic physical transformation has likely been achieved through a combination of cosmetic procedures and lifestyle changes that have truly altered – and many would say enhanced – her appearance.”

Here’s a closer look at her transformation, alongside insights from top celebrity doctors Dr. Aamer and Galadari aesthetic doctor Dr Hassan Galadari, who reveal what other treatments could be behind her revamped look.

And how it may have set the Made You Look singer back £36,000.

Breast work

Earlier this year, Meghan underwent a breast augmentation and lift, describing the results as the “boobs of my dreams”.

She opted for the procedure after experiencing “sagginess” caused by having children and weight fluctuations, which could have cost between £6,000 and £12,000.

Skin tightening

Last year, Meghan admitted she may have gone a little too far with changes to her face.

Despite having Botox “just a handful of times”, she recalled being left unable to smile after getting a “lip flip”.

Speaking on her podcast Workin’ On It, the singer confessed to getting “too much Botox”.

Talking about the lip flip, she said: “And everyone’s like, ‘You’re going to love it, your little lips,’ and I didn’t love it because I couldn’t smile.”

Dr. Aamer commented: “Like most celebrities, Meghan has had Botox injections costing around £300–£400 per session.

“Her lip treatments, particularly for her top lip, could typically cost £300–£600 per session.”

Loosening up

Significant weight loss often leads to loose skin, which may require skin-tightening treatments to address.

Dr Hassan explained: “Meghan looks great, and it’s refreshing to see her being open and honest about using weight loss injections.

“However, she’s also very likely had other aesthetic treatments that have contributed to her changing facial appearance.

“Rapid weight loss can often lead to facial sagging and loose skin, so she may have had skin-tightening treatments like Morpheus8 Burst to lift and firm her neck and jawline, which can cost £550 per session.”

Dr Aamer added: “Her skin tightening may have included treatments like SkinTite, priced at £4,000, or even surgery such as an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), which costs around £10,000.

“These treatments help tighten the skin and restore a smoother, more youthful appearance after significant weight reduction.”

Getting scientifical

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Meghan revealed she is trying to “biohack” her body and is open to anything “that’ll help me age backwards”.

She said: “I just learned about the NADs [supplements].

“I was like, ‘Make me Hailey Bieber. I’ll do it. I’ll take it’ … I’m trying all the things. I love a doctor explaining stuff to me.”

NADs, or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, boost cellular energy and maintain cellular health, helping cells function properly.

Dr Aamer added: “While Meghan has mentioned taking NAD capsules, it is quite possible that she has undergone NAD+ therapy, which is more commonly used for its rejuvenating effects.

“NAD+ therapy in drip form typically costs between £500 per session and promotes energy and overall well-being.”

Smile makeover

In 2022, Meghan revealed on her podcast Workin’ On It that she “got new teeth”.

Dr Aamer commented: “Her teeth, which could be veneers – a popular cosmetic dental procedure among celebrities – usually cost between £500 and £1,000 per tooth.”

Dr Hassan suggested Meghan may have also had biostimulators to enhance her smile.

He explained: “This could be calcium hydroxylapatite or poly-L-lactic acid to help restore facial volume and stimulate collagen production over time.”

“Who wouldn’t want to raise a toast to unleashing their inner wild side before settling into the sacred bonds of matrimony?

“Maybe we should all admit that love is a wild adventure, and sometimes it comes with an unwelcome plus one.

“Cheers to love, laughter, and a little harmless fun before saying, ‘I do’—just don’t spill the beans before the honeymoon.”

The legendary shot, which shows her looking uninterested as a friend speaks into her ear, has since been shared millions of times and is one of the most famous memes in digital history.

Lucia has stepped back into the limelight to recreate the picture which made her famous alongside some of the internet’s most beloved memes – from Harry Maguire’s Put the Bins Out to the ever-relatable Confused Math Lady.

Samsung has enlisted her help to bring to life the common face fails to highlight its Best Face technology on the new Galaxy A56 5G that can help prevent common photo mishaps by using AI to perfect group shots by replacing blinking eyes or awkward faces.

The smartphone maker commissioned research which found blinking (36 per cent), awkward facial expressions when saying “cheese” (26 per cent) and people standing in front of each other (21 per cent) are the most common group photo fails.

The new recreations see Lucia squint, blink and sneeze as research revealed nearly a third (30 per cent) admit to cropping part of the image out instead of attempting to edit pictures.

The study of 2,000 smartphone users found they spend 468 minutes per year editing, filtering and retouching images to achieve the ultimate level of perfection.

Gen Z will snap nearly 1,100 photos a year – more than twice as many as Baby Boomers taking an average of 21 snaps each week.

Their older counterparts take just eight a week – amounting to an annual total of just 416.

However, the younger age group also take an average of eight attempts at taking the perfect shot before they are happy to post it on social media.

Other common edits include getting rid of unwanted people in the background (24 per cent) removing red-eye or glare from glasses (23 per cent) and get rid of people blinking or chewing (16 per cent).

It also emerged the occasions for notorious facial fails are selfies (31 per cent), group photos (29 per cent), and theme park rides (17 per cent).

Nearly four in 10 (38 per cent) agree it really annoys them when everyone looks nice apart from them in a photo.

But despite this, just under half (47 per cent) would happily post a group photo if they looked great but a friend looked terrible.

When it comes to taking group photos, 21 per cent refuse to take photos all together, while 84 per cent have chosen to delete a pic rather than posting it on social media.

With these doing so because they didn’t like how they looked (38 per cent), or it was blurry and out of focus (21 per cent).

Almost half crop out friends the most (47 per cent) from their photos with a quarter admitting they have even cropped themselves out of photos before posting it.

The study also found 32 per cent have staged a candid photo to make it more nature – with Gen Zer’s being the biggest posers (69 per cent) compared to millennials (47 per cent), Gen X (23 per cent) and Boomers (22 per cent).

Annika Bizon from Samsung said: “We understand the desire to capture and share life’s best moments.

“However, our research revealed we spend nearly a month of our lives editing photos.

“We’re empowering users to get their best shot effortlessly, so they can spend less time editing and more time enjoying those special moments.”
