A LAWYER has issued an urgent warning to Boxing Day drivers, saying they could face arrests and driving bans without even realising they’re breaking the law.
Christmas is truly a time for indulgence, but going too hard on the big day could see you hit with hefty penalties on the road.
A lawyer has issued a drink driving warning to Boxing Day motorists (stock image)[/caption]
Mia Senior, a paralegal for Gorvins Solicitors, urged motorists to be alert to the amount of alcohol they have consumed over the festive period.
Millions of Brits enjoy a Christmas tipple, but Mia warned that they could still fall foul of drink driving rules the next day.
The legal limit currently stands at 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in your system.
Factors including age, gender, weight and how much you’ve eaten can all affect your reading on a test.
As a rule of thumb, this concentration would equate to roughly two pints of a mid-strength lager (around 4.5%) or two 175ml glasses of wine for men, according to Confused.com.
For women, each of these drops to just one, the insurance firm added.
Given that many people will have a good deal more than that with their Christmas dinner, they can expect to be well over the drink-driving limit.
Any sensible person would know it’s not a good idea to get behind the wheel after such a merry meal.
But they might not know that they can still be over the limit the next day, even if they have slept off all of the effects of the booze.
Mia explained: “Alcohol is metabolized by the liver at a rate of about one unit per hour.
“Drinking heavily on Christmas Day can result in a high blood alcohol concentration that may not drop to legal levels by the next morning.
“Even if you stop drinking early in the evening, you might still be over the limit the following day.
“It is important to carefully consider whether you are under the limit before getting behind the wheel.”
If you are found to be over the limit, regardless of how you feel, you can be arrested on the spot and charge with drink driving.
Prosecution can lead to heavy fines, driving bands and even prison time in the most serious cases.
A conviction can also make it harder to get a job and secure car insurance in future, as you are required to disclose your criminal record.
If you have had a fair bit to drink this Christmas, you should wait at least 12 hours before driving – but ideally closer to 24 depending on how much you had.
For example, seven pints of 4% is equivalent to around 14 units, which could take upwards of 14 hours to leave your system.

JOE Rogan has revealed why he believes UFC legend Conor McGregor’s career is over.
Notorious, 36, last fought in the octagon in 2021 against Dustin Poirier, when he suffered a broken tibia.
In recent years, McGregor’s hard-partying lifestyle has come under the microscope[/caption]
He has since faced a civil trial, where he was accused of “brutally raping and battering” Nikki Hand in a penthouse at the Beacon Hotel in south Dublin in 2018.
The MMA fighter denied the claim – insisting he had consensual sex with Hand. However, a jury ruled in her favour and awarded the accuser damages of just over £200,000.
He continued: “We’ve all seen Conor get beat up and knocked out. We’ve seen Conor’s sparring footage. He spars pro boxers. He’s sparring elite fighters.
“You’re getting hit in the head a lot, and a lot of fighters, especially towards the end of their career, turn to drugs.
“I think there’s probably like a constant state of discomfort that they live in where their dopamine levels are offed up, their cortisol levels are offed up, their bodies just you’re not supposed to get punched in the head 1000 times a year.
“It’s just not supposed to happen, and that’s the reality of consistent training.”
McGregor has been tipped for a return to the UFC, and the Irishman was forced to deny he was set to take on Ilia Topuria.
However, he admitted he is in talks to fight Logan Paul in a boxing bout.
Inside McGregor's Notorious lifestyle
With more sides to his personality than an Octagon, Conor McGregor's rise has been an enthralling watch.
Going from UFC icon to entrepreneur and Hollywood star, the Irishman has transcended the sport he helped bring to the masses.
The only thing sharper than his fashion sense is his tongue and the Dubliner has several bitter spats under his belt, including with UFC legend KhabibNurmagomedov.
That row led to one of his biggest controversies in 2018 as he travelled 3,000 miles to confront Khabib in a vicious attack on his bus.

MANCHESTER UNITED have received “multiple approaches” for Antony ahead of the January transfer window.
The £86million flop is having another difficult season at Old Trafford, scoring just one goal in ten appearances.
Antony, 24, has made just three starts in all competitions and played just 50 minutes in the Premier League this term.
His Man Utd misery could finally come to an end next month with several teams eyeing up the winger.
Antony’s agent Junior Pedroso told Give Me Sport: “Many clubs have approached us for Antony’s move in January.
“These clubs wanted to understand the situation for Antony, so I can confirm that there’s concrete interest.
“To be fair, Manchester United have never expressed any interest to sell or loan out Antony to us. We never received this sort of communication so far.
“Man Utd management never told us that they want Antony to leave.
“I can say that Antony’s future is very much tied to Manchester United’s interests.
“If the club thinks it would be a good idea to loan Antony out in January so he can get more minutes and regain his trust, we will work together on that option.
Inside Man Utd chaos with Dan Ashworth axed just five months into job
By Neil Custis
The blame game has another victim as things go from bad to worse at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s first sporting director, Dan Ashworth, arrived in the summer and is gone before Christmas.
SunSport exclusively revealed in November that there was trouble at mill.
That the new senior management team were already blaming each other for the mess the club were in.
Chief executive Omar Berrada and Ashworth were trying to wash their hands of it all, claiming they had arrived too late after serving their gardening leave.
New part owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe said making decisions was all down to them.
Meanwhile, Jason Wilcox thought it was all a mess under previous boss Erik ten Hag but was part of the team that encouraged him to stay after every other candidate ran for cover.
Defeat Nottingham Forest in December, after their second-half capitulation at Arsenal a few days previously, proved too much.

Gavin & Stacey: The Finale aired on Christmas Day night at 9pm[/caption]
The show had a tidy viewing figure of 12.3 million[/caption]
The final ever episode left fans feeling emotional as they tuned in[/caption]
James and Ruth beamed in the festive snap as they spent Christmas Day together in order to watch the Gavin & Stacey finale together after working on the show with one another for 17 years.
“We had to be together to watch tonight,” James penned on Instagram alongside a selfie of him and Ruth.
Beaming in the photo with a Christmas tree behind them, James could be seen with his arm around Ruth as she held a cup of tea.
“We really hope you enjoy the finale of Gavin and Stacey,” he went on, “It has been the greatest privilege making this show over the past 17 years.
“We’ll see you on BBC One at 9pm. The years go by so fast, let’s hope the next beats the last. Happy Christmas. x.”
The Finale episode came 17 years after the first episode aired, and five years after the last Christmas special ended on a cliffhanger of epic proportions.
In the 2019 Christmas special, Nessa proposed to Smithy before the closing credits rolled, leaving the nation reeling and wondering whether or not the cheeky chappy from Essex said “yes” to the Ness.
And last night, millions of Brits tuned in to see what happened five Christmases ago, with the episode twisting and turning before ending on a high note that satisfied the nation.
‘THE ENDING WE ALL WANTED’
“The Ending we all wanted and needed,” penned one fan underneath James and Ruth’s selfie, “Thanks so much to you both for giving this to us and for 17 years of the best and most brilliant of memories. Gavin and Stacey, we adore you.”
A second person wrote: “The perfect ending. The closure we all needed. The Christmas pick me up we needed. Thanks for putting a smile (and a few tears on mine and everyone’s faces).”
“Amazing episode,” gushed a third, “Can’t believe we didn’t find out what happened on the fishing trip.”
A fourth then said: “Imagine being responsible for making Christmas 24 so magical for most of the UK. Thank you both.”
While a fifth penned: “That was beautiful, I feel my childhood how now properly ended. Loved it. Well done.”
Gavin and Stacey's Best Moments
With the news that the show is set to make an exciting return to screens, let's take a look at some of the comedy programme's biggest and best moments...
Smithy and Rudi’s American Boy rap – No one will ever forget when James Corden and Sheridan Smith rapped perfectly word for word the Kanye West and Estelle hit American Boy as they walked across the car park on the phone to Gavin.
Pam’s Vegetarian faux pas – Despite loving a cheesburger, Pam found herself caught up in a web of unexpected lies when she claimed to be Vegetarian. She is forced to keep up the secret throughout the entire show and uses hubby Mick to help her scoff meat. She is later rumbled when Stacey catches her in the act as she scoffs ham in the kitchen. Stacey says to her: “Is that ham, Pam!?… “I’ve seen you, Pam. A scotch egg here, a bit of bacon there, putting those regular sausages into the Linda McCartney box”.
THAT fishing trip – It remains one of the biggest mysteries in Gavin and Stacey history as to just exactly what did happen on the ill-fated fishing trip. Bryn appears to be hiding a secret as to an occurance between him and his nephew Jason which has left relations fractures. Ness’ on-off boyfriend, Dave, is the only other person to know the whole truth. Bryn did appear to allude to him and Jason lying together naked to keep warm as he said to Dave: “We’re going to have this out, once and for all, man to man, you may know what happened, David, but you don’t know why it happened! It was freezing cold, it was! And when you are that cold…”
Islands in the Stream – No one can ever forget the classic Karaoke performance of Islands in the Stream. Nessa and Bryn performed the track in front of all their nearest and dearest. It saw the whole pub burst into some line-dancing as they enjoyed a boozy night out.
The Xmas special proposal – In 2019, fans were left overjoyed when the show made a comeback but it ended on the ultimate cliffhanger. Nessa asked Smithy if she would marry him as she finally laid bare her feelings for him. Fans were gutted as the show then cut straight to the credits as they never found out just how Smithy answered. Will all be revealed in the brand new episode?
And a sixth said: “It was absolutely elite. Can’t imagine the pressure to write something that conformed to the nation’s highest expectations on Christmas Day of all days – but you and Ruth nailed it.
“We laughed, we cried, and most of all as a nation we felt united – and god knows few things have the power to do that these days. Absolute respect to all.”
BIGGEST CHRISTMAS AIRING SINCE 2008
This comes after it was revealed that The Finale of Gavin & Stacey was watched by a staggering 12.3 million viewers.
Beating the last Christmas special five years ago, it has also been announced to be the biggest Christmas show to air since 2008.

3 days agoLatest NewsComments Off on I save £1,500 a month living in a skip in central London – I bring friends over & I’ve never had any complaints
A SPEND-savvy artist saves £1,500 a month by living in a converted skip in central London.
Harrison Marshall, 30, moved into the wooden-topped former bin two years ago and doesn’t let the UK’s frozen winters stop him.
Harrison Marshall, 30, moved into a converted skip house two years ago[/caption]
He moved in to tackle renting costs and as a statement about the housing crisis[/caption]
Harrison told Sun reporter Freya Parsons that he has no plans to move out[/caption]
He made the triumphant transformation with a bright yellow skip that was donated to him in 2023.
Harrison said: “I was told I had to paint the skip black as it’s not really part of their brand anymore.
“It’s a shame because I quite liked it because it had more of that ‘skip feel’.”
The eight-yard metal container, aptly named “Skip House,” has been parked in Bermondsey, London, since January last year.
He added: “I’ve been in the skip nearly two years now – time flies.
“The thought of moving back into a shared house and paying a thousand pounds a month does seem too appealing.
“I’m just going month by month until something better comes up.”
The project was intended to be a temporary fix while Harrison was looking for somewhere to rent, but after 24 months he realised it wasn’t so bad.
With the cost of living still affecting millions and renting prices continuing to soar, he decided he was content with “skip life” for the moment.
He added: “I managed to fit seven of us in here once, although that was pretty uncomfortable.
“We were packed like sardines”
When it comes to dinner guests, Harrison admits over the two years he’s learnt to limit it to a maximum of people at a time.
“Standard skip-dinner is definitely pasta pesto, I’m an expert now.”
“Also washing up is a pain, it’s kind of like washing up when you’re camping, I just try and avoid using lots of different utensils.”
Harrison was only supposed to move in for a year but found himself quite cosy[/caption]
He has attracted international attention with his innovative mini-home[/caption]
Despite fitting six guests over once, Harrison attempts to keep visitors to one or two people at the max[/caption]
He said the standard ‘skip-dinner’ is pesto pasta[/caption]
Inside the DIY home is the kitchenette and a wooden ladder leading up to a snug bedroom – these two spaces make up the whole house.
The toilet is a donated portaloo that remains outside and Harrison showers at the gym, which he says is the trickiest bit of skip living.
The architect said: “Even for two people, it does get cosy and it’s a little bit of squeezing past each other, going around in circles.
“But no negative reviews yet, or at least they’ve not told me to my face.”
Harrison only planned on getting cosy in his self-built project for around a year, but with it hitting the two-year mark in January he says he’s now happy to sit tight for a few more months.
He added: “A lot of my friends are still struggling to find places, it’s still very competitive.
“They’re still going to viewings and there’s 20 odd people trying to get to the same place.”
Since starting his project, production companies from all over the world including Germany and Japan have taken an interest in the unique home.
Skip House has also become a viral sensation, with the project’s channel racking up thousands of followers on TikTok and Instagram.
Many of the comments ask Harrison the same question – is it not freezing?
It’s coming up to the second winter Harrison has tackled being skip-bound, but to the amazement of friends and family, he’s managed to keep it nice and toasty.
“I’m lucky enough to be connected to power and that makes a big difference.
“It means I can have my heater which does the job for me, it’s such a small space.
“Once the heater is on it doesn’t usually take too long to heat up and then it’s more than enough to sustain my night’s sleep, it’s pretty good going.”
With an insulated floor, roof, and wall, the timber-built home is transformed with minimal outgoing the energy bill works out at £30 a month.
The skip is on land owned by an arts organisation, which lets him keep it there free of charge.
Luckily, the actual skip hire was written off as well, so his only expenses are electricity and food.
How is the security at Skip House?
There is a lock on the front door, a ring doorbell camera, and a fence surrounding the micro-home - but this didn't stop one bold intruder.
While Harrison was away for a few days, a man managed to break into Skip House and made himself at home.
Once he was discovered he claimed to be “looking after the place”.
Harrison said: “In his defence, he didn’t touch anything and nothing was stolen.
“But he did smash my window.
“He must have thought he was the luckiest homeless guy in the world.”
WHIPPING UP A SKIP
Harrison started his project in December 2022 to firstly create an affordable space for himself but also to make a statement about housing prices in London.
It’s not a permanent fix but Harrison liked the idea of making a home out of something that should never be lived in.
He said when living in a skip seems like a good option, you know something has to change.
“It’s better than a lot of the options on the market”, he argued.
Skip House was put together in just four weeks with the help of a friend and in balmy January of 2023, he officially moved in.
Due to his previous job in the field of construction field, he had the expertise and tools to keep the costs down.
Harrison said all the materials, the timber, the insulation, the main furnishing, mattress, and storage came to around £4,000.
With the additional bits of interior furnishing and decorations, the entire project ended up costing him £5,000.
GETTING TO GRIPS WITH SKIPS
In the 23 months he’s lived there Harrison has become a bit of a local hero with onlookers constantly peering over the metal fence surrounding his home.
Luckily, his local residents are on board with Skip House and were supportive of the move.
Neighbours have brought “random little gifts” and stuffed encouraging notes in his letterbox.
Aside from unexpected house guests and having to drag himself to the gym for a shower, the 30-year-old said there weren’t many downsides to his living situation over the last couple of years.
In fact, with the extra money saved on rent Harrison was able to splash out on a lifestyle that he wouldn’t have been able to before.
He said: “Because I know I’m saving on rent then I buy a bit of extra nice food somewhere else or go abroad whereas otherwise I might exclude that from my spending.
“So pros and cons, this has allowed me to live out of my means.”
Harrison has saved enough cash to fly out to New York to attend his best mate’s engagement party and stag do.
He said he even opts for a luxury microwave meal when he feels like it.
SKIPPING FORWARD
As it stands, Harrison has made no plans to move out but said he’s aware one day he’ll need to leave his cosy one-man-house.
He added: “I think if I needed to stick it out for years, obviously I could.
“I’m quite comfortable there right now, but at some point, I need a real place to live.”
Looking forward the artist said he’s got more live-in installations in the works but doesn’t want to give too much away.
For those looking forward to seeing Harrisons next creation, he said it will be ready to go on show in the coming spring.
How much has Harrison saved?
In an interview last year Harrison was asked if he could save enough living in the skip to buy a proper house.
He joked: “Absolutely not.”
The average rent for a studio in Southwark, London, where Harrison is based, is £1,381 a month according to the Office for National Statistics.
This means the savvy designer is saving £1,351 a month compared to average.
Assuming you would put down 15 per cent of the mortgage as a deposit, the average you would have to pay is Southwark would be £70,620.
If Harrison saved the money he would have spent on rent for a deposit, he would need to live in his skip for 52.2 years.
Despite one robbery attempt, Harrison the house is pretty much secure[/caption]
Harrison said the main issue with his new home is the bathroom facilities[/caption]

3 days agoLatest NewsComments Off on Google reveals money-saving Boxing Day ‘fridge trick’ and says millions of Brits can now use it
GOOGLE has revealed a clever trick to save you time and money on Boxing Day.
All it takes is sending a single photo to its app, according to the tech giant.
You can use Google’s app to help you create a magic meal from Christmas and Boxing Day leftovers[/caption]
The Gemini app is available on both iPhone and Android[/caption]
It works using Google‘s Gemini AI chatbot, which is a virtual helper like ChatGPT.
Google says Gemini can analyse a photo of your fridge – and then tell you what you can make with any Christmas Day leftovers.
“Gemini can help solve post-Christmas cooking conundrums by providing inspiration on what to do with your leftover sprouts, cheese, turkey, and cranberry sauce,” says Google.
The search engine giant also noted that those are some of the most “leftover” ingredients, according to research.
So how does it work? First download the Google Gemini app, which is totally free.
It’s available on both Android via the Google Play Store or iPhone through the Apple App Store for iOS.
Then you can enter text and ask questions about anything – not just leftovers.
But if you want to make the most of all of that food you splashed out on, go and snap a photo of the inside of your fridge.
Then upload the image right into the Gemini app, and ask it to help you decide what to make with your Christmas dinner leftovers.
Google says that the app “will deliver original and tasty meal inspiration to suit all tastes and requirements”.
You can even be specific, asking it for quick recipes, something for dessert, meals that only require one pan, or any other request that you’ve got.
Of course the success of the feature will depend on the quality of your leftovers. If your fridge has nothing but sprouts inside, you might need to pop to the shops.
Google-backed research suggests that 44% of Brits over-buy food for Christmas, with around a third “struggling to know what to do with leftovers”.
“Cooking for friends and family, while using up leftover ingredients weighs on many minds over the Christmas period,” said Google’s Serge LaChapelle.
GOOGLE'S CHATBOT IDEAS
Here are some prompts that Google reckons you should try tapping into the Gemini app...
Prompt 1: “I’m hosting a Friendsmas party and want to use up all my leftovers from Christmas Day. I have a mix of food items left, including turkey, potatoes, stuffing, brussels sprouts, and cheese, and would love to create some refined finger food. Can you help with suggestions?”
Prompt 2: “I am craving something sweet and I have so many leftovers from Christmas dinner I need to use up. Can I have some ideas on hown to transform these leftovers into a yummy dessert? I have cranberry sauce, chocolate, and Christmas pudding.”
Prompt 3: “I’m looking for fun recipe ideas using Christmas leftovers in my fridge to enjoy between Christmas and New Year. I have brussels sprouts, potatoes, and stuffing. I love Mexican-style food. Can you help with fun small plate recipe suggestions?”
The Google product boss added: “What to do with all those sprouts? Ask Gemini for different ways to create something delicious.”
If you don’t want to take a photo of your fridge, you can also just describe what leftovers you have to Gemini to get a similar effect.
But taking a photo will be much faster and save you having to type out all of your potential ingredients.
It’s worth noting that you can also use this feature at any other time of the year just to help you plan meals.
Google’s research suggested that the top five “leftover” ingredients are turkey, potatoes, vegetables, stuffing, and cheese.
The Sun tried plugging those ingredients into Gemini, and it recommended a Boxing Day Pot Pie that takes 20 minutes to prep and 40 minutes to cook.
