OBSESSING over weight is damaging our health, experts have warned.
It came as a poll found being too heavy was what people most wanted to change in 2025.
Fat jabs and fad diets mean many of us are not getting enough of the right types of food and lack vitamins, nutritionists say.
In a YouGov survey of 2,000 people, slimming was voted as the priority over improving sleep, mental health, jobs, fitness or boosting relationships.
In all, 22 per cent chose weight as the thing they most wanted to change.
Demand for weight loss jabs is rising but experts fear those taking them will pile the pounds back on by not changing to a healthy diet.
And the British Dietetic Association warned quick fixes meant people could struggle to control their weight in the long term.
Dietitian Priya Tew said: “People end up not eating enough, as well as cutting out entire food groups like carbohydrates.
“This can lead to overeating at other points as the body sends stronger hunger signals.”
Two thirds of British adults are overweight.
Half are classed as obese.
MORE than £1billion has been spent on hospital car parking charges over the past six years, figures reveal.
NHS staff paid more than £300million, while patients and visitors forked out £847million.
University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire has collected the most since 2018, with £37.3million.
University Hospitals Birmingham followed with £25.2million, and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust raked in £23.9million over the same period.
The Lib Dems, who compiled the data, also found that NHS hospital parking charges rose to £243million in 2024 from £192.5million in 2023.
But the Department of Health and Social Care insisted: “Hospital car park charges are the responsibility of individual NHS trusts.
“However, any charges must be reasonable and in line with the local area.
“Any revenue is used to maintain car park facilities and surplus income is put back into the NHS.”
Lib Dem Care spokesperson Alison Bennett blasted the “unfair tax on the sick.”
She added: “It cannot be right that nurses have to pay through the nose to get to work or that patients are subjected to sky-high fees to get treatment they desperately need.
“The Conservatives promised to crack down on unfair hospital car parking charges but failed miserably.
“The new government must now work urgently to stamp out these unfair fees and back our calls for a new Visitors and Caring Fund.”
PUBS are offering cheap stews as Labour’s tax raid forces desperate cost-cutting, an industry leader has claimed.
Struggling venues are cutting back menus and opting for cheaper ingredients to stay afloat, UKHospitality chief Kate Nicholls said.
She explained: “People have been changing their menus.
So they have gone down to two or three dishes rather than having a choice of ten or 12.
“Cheaper cuts of meat and cheaper ways of cooking it.
“So there’s a lot of stews and a return to sort of pies, away from some of the more expensive items.”
She said other cost-saving measures include scrapping table service to cut down on staff.
Ms Nicholls described Rachel Reeves’ Budget as “a real hammer blow for the industry”.
She said the financial squeeze brought about by the halving of the national insurance contributions threshold has been compounded by soaring wage bills and reduced business rates relief, adding: “Collectively, it’s a £3.4billion tax hit.”
Ms Nicholls also stated: “This is the most regressive tax change that’s ever been introduced and we would urge them to think again.”
The Treasury said a lower business rate would be introduced in 2026 to help protect pubs.
