The rare red weather warnings issued for Scotland and Northern Ireland comes as the fierce weather is likely to damage buildings, uproot trees and cause power cuts, the Met Office said.
Calmac Ferries on Scotland’s west coast and Steam Packet Ferries between Heysham and the Isle of Man both announced Friday’s planned sailings had been cancelled.
A number of train companies including Avanti West Coast, Lumo, CrossCountry and Grand Central have also told customers not to travel on routes across parts of north Wales, Scotland and northern England with no services running.
Red warnings for wind have been issued by the Met Office in Northern Ireland from 7am until 2pm on Friday, and for western and central areas of Scotland between 10am and 5pm.
Gusts of 80 to 90mph are expected widely inland in the warning areas, with speeds of up to 100mph likely along coasts, the forecaster said.
Amber wind warnings are also in place for Northern Ireland, the southern half of Scotland, northern England and north Wales between 6am and 9pm on Friday, and the northern half of Scotland from 1pm on Friday to 6am on Saturday.
Winds reaching 60 to 70mph will be widespread in these warning areas.
There is a yellow wind warning covering most of the UK for the entirety of Friday.
Smaller yellow warnings for snow in Scotland, from 6am to midnight, and rain in south-west England and Wales until 9am.

These were only counted once in the total of 334.
Ruud van Nistelrooy ‘in blazing row with Leicester squad after Fulham defeat as ex-Man Utd star singles out loanee’
RUUD VAN NISTELROOY was involved in a blazing row with the Leicester squad following their defeat to Fulham, according to reports.
The former Manchester United striker has seen the Foxes’ form go down the pan after suffering seven defeats on the spin in the Premier League.
Ruud van Nistelrooy is said to have given his players the hairdryer treatment after losing to Fulham[/caption] Van Nistelrooy is said to have taken particular issue with Facundo Buonanotte[/caption]According to the Daily Mail, the Dutchman is reported to have lost his temper and given the hairdryer treatment to his flops following the 2-0 defeat to Fulham at the King Power Stadium last weekend.
Goals from Emile Smith Rowe and Adama Traore saw Leicester sink deeper into relegation woes.
Van Nistelrooy took particular issue with a select few stars, including loanee Facundo Buonanotte.
The 20-year-old, on loan from Brighton, came on as a 71st-minute substitute.
However, he then proceeded to lose the ball on nine occasions despite only touching it 16 times, according to Opta data.
Buonanotte has started just three of Van Nistelrooy’s nine games in charge despite previously being a key man for predecessor Steve Cooper.
The attacking midfielder is said to have been left unhappy by his lack of minutes, with Brighton even considering whether to recall him this month.
The report adds that this is not the first time tempers have flared in the dressing room.

An identical result at home against Crystal Palace the week before saw senior players hold an inquest to try and create more resolve in the team.
However, that meeting proved ineffective in the following match.
SunSport has contacted Leicester for comment.
They face a visit to Tottenham next, with Ange Postecoglou‘s side in a poor run of their own.

RL team left with just 12 senior players for match as takeover talks rumble on
MIKE Eccles is adamant London Broncos will get new investment after being left with just 12 senior players.
David Hughes’ decision to end his backing left the Wimbledon-based outfit, relegated from Super League last year, facing extinction.
But boss Eccles believes money will come as Leeds chief executive Gary Hetherington brokers a deal – raising the possibility of more than one locally-based group coming on board.
For the time being, though, he has to fill his squad for tomorrow’s Challenge Cup tie with new boys Goole Vikings with trialists.
Eccles said: “The game probably doesn’t realise how close it was to losing us but we’ll get investment.
“There are a couple of options on the table and one group, who’s from London, has put together a very, very appealing package.
“Myself and chief executive Jason Loubser set a vision of, ‘This is what we want, can you support this?’ 12 weeks ago, we’d have taken anything to survive.
“And we feel we can get back to Super League quickly with the right investment supporting the right vision. It won’t be sorted by the start of the Championship season but the vision is to get a series of people coming in.

“We’ve big ambitions. Right now it’s about getting more players, paying salaries and staying in the Championship but we want to get forward quickly.”
Eccles’ Broncos will face League One newcomers Goole – but the aim is for many players to be a development side below the first team.
Currently, though, it is a case of needs must.
He added: “We’ve got 12 players now and 14 train and trialists we need to get ready to play games. Five or six will be in the 17 tomorrow.
“These are lads we identified from the area who were playing in the Southern Conference League or had previously played in League One.
“An open trial was predominantly players from the London League or who’d played in the SCL. Certain ones are being taught things for the first time, that’s the reality of where we’re at.
“We need players, so get them from where we live, in our area. We’re in trouble but we’ll stick to our roots.
“Tomorrow is a really proud day for us as we’ve paid two months’ worth of salaries without David, we’ve assembled a team, we’re putting a competitive fixture on.
“The reality is we’re fighting for our lives and fighting for a club but I’m absolutely confident it’s one we’ll win. I wouldn’t be here if not.”
Watch as huge fireball explosion rips through Putin oil refinery as screaming Russians flee inferno after drone attack
DRAMATIC footage shows the moment people fled as a huge fireball explosion ripped through a major Russian oil refinery.
Ukrainian forces blasted the Rostneft Oil Refinery in Ryazan with long-range kamikaze drones last night in the latest blow for Vladimir Putin.
Huge flames rose from the scene[/caption] The depot went up in flames after a drone strike[/caption]Towering flames and huge plumes of smoke could be seen rising from the site in footage shared on social media.
People ran from the scene as the inferno raged.
At least 20 drones targeted the Ryazan region, southeast of Moscow, overnight – striking the depot and a power station.
Regional governor Pavel Malkov said emergency services were tackling the aftermath of an air attack.
Ryazan oil refinery is one of the largest in Russia and is critical for fuel supplies to Moscow.
Its capacity is 18 million tons a year, and it is owned by state company Rosneft, headed by close Putin crony Igor Sechin.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had intercepted and destroyed 121 drones targeting 13 regions in one of the biggest bombardments of Putin’s territory.
A plant making microchips for Putin’s deadly Iskander ballistic missiles went up in flames in Bryansk region after another strike.
Drones also targeted other regions, including those that border Ukraine and Kursk, where Ukrainian troops hold a chunk of land despite Russian efforts to eject them.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said early on Friday that air defences had intercepted attacks by Ukrainian drones at four locations around the Russian capital.
Putin’s motorcade was seen rushing to the Kremlin at around 11.30pm on Thursday night, ahead of the fierce bombardment of western Russia by Ukrainian drones.
The reason for his late night visit to his office was not clear.
Airports in Russian cities Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, Penza, Samara, Saratov and Ufa were forced to suspend flights due to drone strikes.
It comes as Donald Trump has hit Putin with an ultimatum to sign a deal to end the “ridiculous” war in Ukraine – or face the consequences.
Trump threw the gauntlet squarely at Putin’s feet, threatening: “We can do this the easy way or the hard way.”
Trump warned of a tirade of taxes, tariffs and sanctions on everything sold from Russia to the US and other countries if Putin does not co-operate with peace talks.
In a post on his platform Truth Social, the new President said: “I’m not looking to hurt Russia.
“I love the Russian people, and always had a very good relationship with President Putin.
He continued: “All of that being said, I’m going to do Russia, whose economy is failing, and President Putin, a very big favour.
“Settle now, and stop this ridiculous war”, adding that it’s “only going to get worse.”
Russia responded swiftly to Trump’s ultimatum.
Dmitry Polyanskiy, Russia’s ambassador to the UN, said the Kremlin would need to hear specific details from Trump about any deal before proceeding.
People run as smoke rises from an explosion in Ryazan[/caption]I slept with my lodger after too many wines – he’s 10 years younger & now I can’t stop thinking about his hot, sexy body
A WOMAN who slept with her lodger has admitted she can’t stop thinking about their saucy antics, despite him being a decade younger.
It all began when the man, who is a family friend, moved into her home back in October.
The mum asked other parents what she should do about the situation[/caption] The mum and her lodger enjoyed a night of passion after one too many drinks[/caption]“He is 10 years my junior, very likeable, we get along really well. As friends. Or so I thought until last night,” she wrote on Mumsnet.
It turns out the pair enjoyed a few too many drinks together and things got very steamy.
It started when he went in for a kiss and she didn’t object, she explained in the viral post, but the pair soon ended up in bed together.
It’s not just the age gap and housing situation that makes things a bit weird, the woman explained.
“I am a single parent to a child who is thankfully in school today and no wiser as to what happened,” she added.
Despite enjoying their one night together the mum said she has no desire to continue sleeping together or for a relationship.
“I do not want one and especially not with him, however his lease agreement is in place and as he is not from the same country as I am and knows nobody else here he wont be looking to move out,” she explained.
I need to refocus on my life and stop thinking of his very hot body in my bed.
But her toy boy might not have got the memo as the next morning he quipped about them being ‘friends with benefits‘, a comment that shocked the mum.
“I have never done that before and not comfortable with that arrangement, especially with my teenaged child,” she noted in the post.
Although both parties were single, the mum confessed she didn’t know what to do about the situation and asked other Mumsnet users for advice on her next move.
“Obviously discussing it with him is the right thing but we are both single, clearly attracted to each other and really do get along so well but sh*t we have now had sex.
“I don’t know what to do from here. Bloody stupidity. Actually really annoyed with myself this morning,” she wrote.
People were left divided over the incident with some urging the mum to ask him to move out and others saying the fling didn’t need to change anything.
“I think you need to ask him to move out to be honest,” one person commented.
“It’s permanently changed the relationship, and if that’s not what you want then you need to remove him/ yourself from this situation.”
But someone else replied: “I don’t feel you should feel bad if you both had a nice time. Don’t be so hard on yourself.
“It’s good that you’re both attracted to one another and it wasn’t the beer goggles that caused it.
“I guess you’ll have to be very careful and sensitive to the fact your child lives with you. I don’t think he needs to move out especially if you’re into him. Play it by ear for a while.”
Meanwhile, someone else praised the mum for “managing the situation like a pro”, but she wasn’t convinced that was the case.
“F**k I do think I bloody fancy him now and I do not want to,” she confessed.
“I need to refocus on my life and stop thinking of his very hot body in my bed,” the mum added.
The mum went on to admit she still hadn’t decided what she would do about the situation, but thought keeping her distance from him “for a few days” would be best.
What your sexual fantasies say about you

Raucous Role Play: If your partner enjoys dressing up for fun, it shows creativity and a desire to keep things exciting. However, it might signal that he struggles with responsibility.
Multi-Partner Fantasies: Craving variety doesn’t always mean he wants to cheat. However, it could indicate deeper feelings of unfulfillment.
Power & Control: A little dominance is normal, but if it’s always about control, it may hide insecurities.
Adventure: Men seeking thrills may push boundaries, so be sure your comfort zone is respected.
Passion: If he’s romantic, he’s emotionally tuned in—though occasionally avoiding tough conversations.
Flexibility: Openness to new experiences is great, but constant novelty-seeking could mean avoiding emotional connection.
Red Flag: If control is his ultimate fantasy, it may signal a deeper struggle with power dynamics.

The desired facility will include all-weather pitches, a small stadium, swimming pools and a media suite.
United have two potential sites in mind for their new HQ.
One in Woolsington near the airport and the preferred one near Newcastle Racecourse.
Although it is still several years away before completion, the club will next confirm the location as well as contracting builders and engineers.
Newcastle had a number of other firms compete for the contract to design the state-of-the-art facilities and look set to land on Populous.
Populous have an impressive CV within football with the firm having a hand in the designs for Wembley, Arsenal‘s Emirates Stadium and Lusail Stadium, which hosted the 2022 Qatar World Cup final.
Outside of football, Populous are the innovators behind the unusual, but eye-catching Las Vegas Sphere.

The Kansas City-founded company have also put forward plans to Manchester United’s ownership regarding the expansion or demolition of Old Trafford to make way for a new stadium.
Newcastle continue to eye their own plans to either expand on St James’ Park or find a new home elsewhere in the city.
However, they are yet to make any major strides in that direction and are currently focused on their new training facilities ahead of their historic home.
At present, Populous have not been chosen to lead plans on the new stadium.
