Our Bet Builder selections: Manchester City to win, Kevin De Bruyne and Cole Palmer to score and Bernardo Silva carded at 50/1. ADD TO YOUR BET SLIP HERE!
Manchester City to win: It’s a tight contest between two sides struggling to find rhythm and form, but City’s record in this fixture and a trio of new signings might just get them over the line. The CItyzens are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League games against Chelsea, while the Blues are without a win in their last three on the road.
Kevin De Bruyne to score: The Belgian, 33, is back in form and boasts a great record against his former club, scoring five Premier League goals, only netting more against Arsenal in the competition (8).
Cole Palmer to score: The 22-year-old has bagged 14 goals in 22 Premier League appearances this season – including three in his last four starts in the competition. He’s scored more away PL goals than any Chelsea player (6) and ranks top for attempts (34), big chances (12) and xG (6.58). He’s also on penalties.
Bernardo Silva carded: It’s a big clash after a frustrating week for Manchester City in the Champions League, and those are perfect conditions for a Bernardo Silva booking. He’s been carded six times this season and has picked up three against Chelsea – including in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge back in August.

Manchester City return to domestic action following their bleak midweek trip to Paris.
It was a chastening night for Pep Guardiola’s side, who blew a two-goal lead and slumped to a 4-2 defeat against PSG at the Parc des Princes.
The Cityzens are now at risk elimination from the competition altogether in 25th position, and must win their final fixture against Club Brugge to progress.
Guardiola’s side often looked static, ragged and defensively vulnerable as they gave up 63% possession and 26 shots, whilst their opponents generated a hefty xG of 2.75.
Not only did the defeat bring a shuddering halt to their mini-revival.
It also gave credence to the argument that Manchester City are NOT back, rather they merely beat the likes of League Two Salford, Leicester, West Ham and Ipswich Town.
Pep’s antidote? He’s looked for reinforcements.
And he’s got exactly that having spent £123million on new recruits in forward Omar Marmoush and defenders Vitor Reis from Palmeiras and Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens.
It doesn’t look like there will be a “bedding in process” for the trio after Guardiola announced they “are able to play already” in the Premier League and could make their debuts against Chelsea on Saturday.
New signings should help rejuvenate City’s ranks and it could be the ideal fixture given the Manchester side are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League games against Chelsea (W5 D2). The Blues have also registered just one clean sheet in their last 16 Premier League away games at the Etihad Stadium.
They may also be bumping into Chelsea at the right time.
Enzo Maresca’s side had been tipped to challenge for the title but now find themselves in fourth spot following a run of one victory in their last six top-flight matches (L2, D3).
Having won six of their first eight Premier League away games this season, Chelsea are now winless in their last three on the road. They’ve scored just once in these three games, having averaged 2.9 goals-per-game in their previous eight.

King Kevin
Manchester City’s short-lived revival happened to coincide with Kevin De Bruyne’s return to form.
The Belgian, 33, has provided four assists in his last three Premier League games, including two against Ipswich Town last time out. He also boasts a terrific record against his former club Chelsea – scoring five Premier League goals, only netting more against Arsenal in the competition (8).
He ranks top for chances created in this Manchester City squad over the last four top-flight games (14) with an xA of 1.07 and the most crosses delivered.

If Chelsea are to score, it’s more than likely to come via the club’s top goalscorer Cole Palmer – especially with Nicolas Jackson having failed to score in his last six appearances.
Palmer, 22, has bagged 14 goals in 22 Premier League appearances this season – including three in his last four starts in the competition. He’s scored more away PL goals than any Chelsea player (6) and ranks top for attempts (34), big chances (12) and xG (6.58). He’s also on penalties.

Liverpool welcome struggling Ipswich Town to Anfield for Saturday’s Premier League encounter.
And the hosts will feel confident of securing maximum points against their visitors, who arrive off the back of a painful 6-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City.
Arne Slot has remedied Liverpool’s extremely brief slump by recording successive victories over Brentford and Lille, which leaves the Merseyside club with a commanding lead in both the Premier League and Champions League.
The Reds are six points clear of challengers Arsenal and Nottingham Forest having played a game less, with most bookmakers pricing them at odds-on 1/4 to clinch the title.
They’ll need want to avoid a potential banana skin against their travelling opponents on Saturday, but any hiccups seem unlikely given their history in this fixture.
Liverpool have won their last three league games against Ipswich by an aggregate score of 13-0, and have also won their last 10 Premier League home games against promoted sides by an aggregate score of 34-7.
With Slot’s side seemingly back in the groove and boasting the highest goals tally and xG (50.2) it could be a tough assignment for Ipswich Town, especially given that only Southampton (52.6) have a higher xG against than them (45.8).
Manager Kieran McKenna has called for his squad – including new additions Jaden Philogene and Julio Enciso – to show “incredible character” this weekend.
But following a win over Chelsea and draw with Fulham, the Tractor Boys have lost their last two without scoring, conceding eight in the process.

At the double
Mohamed Salah might appear the obvious selection for a brace on Saturday, but given he’s priced at 17/10 – we’re happy to opt for the in-form Cody Gakpo instead at 13/2.
Gakpo, 25, has registered 12 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this season – including two doubles against West Ham and Brighton.
Five of the Dutchman’s six Premier League goals for Liverpool have come in home games, with the forward netting in each of his last four such appearances at Anfield. He also ranks top for most shots on target for Liverpool in the last four home games (8) and non-penalty xG (2.59).

Assist
We’re opting for a Dominik Szoboszlai assist this weekend. The Hungarian, 24, has provided five assists in 28 appearances for Liverpool this season – including one against Ipswich Town in the reverse fixture back in August 2024.
Szoboszlai has created the most chances (8) for his colleagues over the last four home games, despite playing over 100 minutes less! He ranks third for xA (expected assists) in that period which is higher than Trent Alexander-Arnold.

2 weeks agoLatest NewsComments Off on Ajax embarrassed by Latvian minnows who haven’t played since December in ‘biggest humiliation of a Dutch team ever’
AJAX endured a humbling 1-0 defeat to Latvian side RFS in the Europa League last night.
The Dutch side’s opponents had not played a competitive match since the last round of European fixtures on December 12.
EPAAjax endured a humbling evening in Latvia[/caption]
EPAJordan Henderson was in action for the Dutch side[/caption]
That’s because the Latvian top flight is played between March and November.
Nevertheless, RFS shocked their more-fancied opponents courtesy of Adam Markhiyev’s 78th minute goal.
The Eredivisie side started former Premier League stars Jordan Henderson and Bertrand Traore, as well as ex-Juventus ace Daniele Rugani and old Man Utd target Brian Brobbey, but could not find a way through their stubborn hosts.
Their shocking defeat saw Ajax fall to 16th in the League Phase, four points off the top eight, thus officially ending their hopes of securing automatic progression to the round of 16.
Per Global Football Rankings, the Latvian top flight is the 71st best football league in the world.
It ranks below the Georgian (66), Finnish (67), Venezuelan (68) and Qatari (69) top flights.
While ironically, it comes in directly behind the Dutch second tier (70).
Ajax fans were left mortified by last night’s result.
