Watch the eye-wincing moment surgeon performs vasectomy on HIMSELF as a ‘gift to his wife’

A PLASTIC surgeon decided to carry out a vasectomy on himself and shared the horrifying moment in a video that’s now gone viral.

Dr Chen Weinong, a father of three, decided to get ‘the snip‘ as a “gift for his wife” to ensure they don’t have any more children.

But the doctor also warned not to try this at home[/caption]

The doctor from Taiwan told Sun Health that due to his expertise and the importance of the area, he believed it was safest to carry out the surgery himself.

A vasectomy is a surgical procedure that prevents pregnancy by cutting or sealing the tubes that carry sperm.

It’s a permanent form of male birth control.

Vasectomies are common in the UK, with around 11,000 performed each year.

But doing it yourself is unusual and Dr Chen’s video came with a strict “do not try this at home” warning.

The procedure uses local anaesthetic to numb the genitals, so Dr Chen is fully conscious in the video.

In a clip published on Facebook and Instagram for “educational purposes”, Dr Chen can be seen laying back in a surgical chair while he uses a scalpel and surgical clamp to carry out the operation.

At one point he leans back in what seems like a moment of pain during the hour-long procedure.

But he quickly carries on and finishes by stitching himself up with ‘catgut’ — a natural surgical thread made from the purified collagen of animal intestines.

Writing on social media he said: “‘It was a strange feeling to touch and suture my own urethra.”

He also told Sun Health: “The operation was very sterile, and I followed the steps.

“It went smoothly, and I was completely normal the next day. I posted this just to share my personal experience.”

While Dr Chen performed the procedure on himself, there was a urologist present on the day to offer assistance.

His wife, Dr Zhang Fengshu, who also has a surgical and plastic surgery license, was also present.

A vasectomy usually takes about 15–30 minutes and is generally considered a relatively painless procedure due to local anaesthetic.

Most men will experience some mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the scrotum afterwards, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.

Dr Chen said he did experience some pain the night following the surgery, but then felt fine the next morning[/caption]

The most painful part tends to be the anaesthetic injection itself.

Dr Chen said while he did experience some pain and discomfort the night following the surgery, he felt fine by the next morning.

His video has now gained more than 4 million views across various social media.

This isn’t the first time a doctor has carried out a vasectomy on himself.

Back in 2001 is was reported GP Jonathan Heatley, who had his own health centre in Horsham, West Sussex, performed a DIY procedure.

What is a vasectomy and what is the success rate?

VASECTOMY is the name given to a minor operation that works to blocks sperm from being ejaculated during sex.

During the surgery, the tubes that carry the fluid from a man’s testicles to the penis are cut, blocked or sealed.

The NHS explains: “This prevents sperm from reaching the seminal fluid (semen), which is ejaculated from the penis during sex.

“There will be no sperm in the semen, so a woman’s egg can’t be fertilised.”

Surprisingly, the life-changing operation can be carried out in just 15 minutes.

The procedure is typically carried out under local anaesthetic, so is often relatively painless.

People that undertake a vasectomy are urged to keep using alternative forms of contraception to protect themselves against sexually transmitted diseases.

The NHS website reveals that the vasectomy is more than 99 per cent effective.

They estimate: “Out of 2,000 men who are sterilised, one will get a woman pregnant during the rest of his lifetime.”

But just like all forms of contraception, there is still a small chance of fertility after the procedure.

Suttons Tips for Sowing into Seed beds

Top tips for sowing your seeds

Some vegetables, hardy annuals and tree seeds should be direct-sown into a special ‘seed bed’ rather than into their final positions. Here are some seed bed tips:

  • Position your seed bed in an open but sheltered position.
  • The soil should be free of weeds, large stones and debris and be broken down as finely as possible.
  • Sow your seeds into v-shaped drills made to the recommended sowing depth for each particular variety.
  • Create taut lines with string to help you keep your drills straight. It makes weeding easier as the plants grow.
  • Make sure your seeds are in good contact with the soil.
  • In dry weather, moisten the drill thoroughly before sowing.
  • After sowing the seeds, rake soil over the drill and firm it with the flat face of the rake.
  • Mark the drill with a label including the seed variety and date sown.

Hair Syrup Mint Condition – Mint And Tea Tree Hair Oil, £15.95

The Hair Syrup Mint Condition Hair Oil is making waves in the beauty industry and among shoppers who praise its budget-friendly price and effectiveness.

The Mint Condition oil costs £15.95 for a 100ml bottle and is designed to soothe and hydrate the most irritated scalps.

It works best as a pre-shampoo treatment that can be left on for 20-30 minutes.

The brand recommends using the oil 2-3 times a week for optimal results.

Thanks to the Mint Condition hair oil treatment’s impressive ability to tackle dandruff, fans are sharing their hair transformations on social media, with one fan calling it a ‘game changer’ for their routine.

The wonder ingredients in the Mint Condition - Mint And Tea Tree Hair Oil

The Mint Condition hair oil works to address several common scalp concerns.

Boasting a unique blend of natural oils, including invigorating tea tree oil, jojoba oil and peppermint oil, the Mint Condition oil treatment is great for tackling dandruff.

Tea tree oil, renowned for its antibacterial and antifungal properties, targets the root causes of dandruff, while jojoba oil deeply moisturises your scalp without clogging pores.

The addition of peppermint oil leaves you feeling refreshed, stimulating blood circulation and promoting healthier hair growth.

Many users report flake-free scalps and shinier hair after just a few applications of the Hair Syrup oil.

One reviewer said, “Game-changing! I was somewhat dubious of this product as it has pretty bold claims, and I wondered if it would work in the way it has been described.

I can actually wear my hair down with pride

“I’m so glad I did, I no longer have to worry about wearing black tops or blazers (dandruff girlies know what I’m talking about), and I can actually wear my hair down with pride.”

Another fan raved: “100% worth the hype! I recommended this to someone who had a scalp covered in a layer of dandruff, as they suffer from eczema.

“After just one use, you could see their scalp again and there wasn’t a flake in sight.”

The use of hair oils to promote hair growth has exploded in recent years thanks to social media, and in particular TikTok, with fans sharing their results online.

One beauty fan shared how they transformed their damaged, scrawny hair using a £6 oil, while another praised an ‘amazing’ hair growth oil you can buy for less than a tenner.

Another TikToker whose hair used to fall out in massive clumps has raved about a £6 rosemary oil that restored her locks to a healthy state.

Why do women lose hair in winter?

Anabel Kingsley, Consultant Trichologist and Brand President at Philip Kingsley spoke exclusively to Fabulous.

You can experience increased hair fall in winter for many reasons, such as due to dietary changes, illness, stress levels and compromised scalp health.

We do know that dandruff and a flaky scalp are more common in winter, which in turn can increase hair fall. People also tend to shampoo less often in the winter, which can lead to the illusion you are losing more hair than usual. The more days you leave between cleansing your scalp, the more hairs you will see when you do as they accumulate.

Another thing to note is that winter is flu season, and high fevers usually cause hair shedding. Due to the nature of the hair growth cycle, you don’t notice hair fall straight away – it takes from six to 12 weeks for it to occur.

Winterwatch fans brand show ‘filth’ after innuendo-filled conversation between hosts Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan

WINTERWATCH fans have branded the show “filth” following a very cheeky conversation between the show’s hosts.

The beloved BBC show kicked of this week and saw hosts Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan back on presenting duties once more.

The new series of Winterwatch kicked off on Tuesday[/caption]

This year’s series returned on Tuesday and is live from the RSPB Arne on the shores of Poole Harbour in Dorset.

Michaela and Chris – who both found fame together on the iconic 80s kids show The Really Wild Show – host the series, along with Iolo William.

The trio report live each night from the nature reserve, and bring viewers footage of wildlife and endearing stories about the local area.

However, last night it was a conversation between Chris and Michaela that really got fans talking.

Fans picked up on an innuendo-filled chat between the pair, and branded the show “filth”.

It all started after Michaela and Chris had been talking to their fellow presenter Iolo.

He was on a location where there were woodcocks and explained he was hoping to “get his hands on one” later in the show.

The show then cut back to Chris and Michaela, with the latter cheekily said: “Exciting isn’t it, he could have a woodcock in his hand.”

Turning to Chris, she said: “I bet you’ve got FOMO (fear of missing out) over that.

“You’d love to have a woodcock in your hand.”

Chris then quipped: “I’ll FOMO all over you in a minute.”

Fans were left in stitches at this exchange and immediately took to social media, with one saying: “Rudest chat so far! #Winterwatch.”

Another tweeted: “Pure filth. #winterwatch

This one chortled: “Looks like Chris and Michaela have started early #woodcock #winterwatch.”

Chris and Michaela have been friends since the 80s[/caption]

Winterwatch has been airing all this week, and will come to an end tonight.

Speaking before the series kicked off on Tuesday, Michaela said: “It’ll be great to return to Arne which we explored in depth in Springwatch.

“It’s always interesting to see the changes in different seasons.

“My favourite part of any Watches are the live cameras.

“Every season they bring something to surprise us, something we weren’t expecting, something unscripted and I always love that.”

This year’s Winterwatch has been set against the backdrop of Dorset’s stunning heathland, wetlands and woodlands.

Its main filming base has been the RSPB Arne, which covers more than 565 hectares of the Arne peninsula.

“It’s a great place because of the diversity of habitats,” said presenter Chris Packham. “It’s an incredibly diverse range of habitats with a great range of species.

“The project of the Super National Nature Reserve continues.

“They’re continuing to sort of expand and consolidate and instigate resilience in that environment, which is really important.

“So that’s something we’ve been very keen to support.”

Winterwatch continues tonight at 8pm on BBC Two.

Mum jailed for killing four twin boys, aged 3 & 4, in fire after leaving them alone in squalid home to go shopping

A MUM has been jailed after she killed her four twin boys in a fire after leaving them alone in their squalid home to go shopping.

Leyton and Logan Hoath, three, and Kyson and Bryson Hoath, four, died surrounded by rubbish and human faeces.

Their mum has been jailed after she was found guilty of manslaughter

Deveca Rose, 29, had left the children locked inside as she popped out to buy “non essential” items at Sainsbury’s.

The boys were heard desperately screaming “there’s a fire” as flames engulfed the terraced home in Sutton, South London, just days before Christmas.

Rose has now been jailed for ten years after she was convicted of four counts of manslaughter.

In a victim impact statement, the boys’ dad Dalton Hoath said losing his four sons was “the worst day of my life””,”.

He added: “Their lives had just begun but were cut so short. It was every parent’s worst nightmare.

“I’m not a great talker but even if I was I could not put it in words. I simply want to join them.”

Dalton also told how he cried or stayed in bed and came close to jumping off a bridge “many times” in the days after losing his sons.

He added: “I have tried to be some sort of normal for my own family now.

“I will never recover from losing my funny, beautiful boys. I have to fight for all of us left behind and live with this massive pain in my heart before I meet them again.”

While great grandmother Sally Johnson wept as she revealed her torment over the boys’ deaths.

She said: “The thought of them crying and screaming out will haunt me forever.

“My only comfort is they are now together forever and need never be alone again.

“I’m afraid I will never be able to forgive… I would like to say their favourite word – why? Just why?”

The Old Bailey heard a discarded cigarette or upturned tea light sparked the blaze after it ignited a mountain of rubbish on the floor.

Rose had let the family home fall into a vile state, with buckets and pots used as toilets, human excrement on the floor and rubbish left in the bath.

There was also a mattress and possibly a door on the stairs and the smoke alarm had no batteries.

On December 16, 2021, CCTV showed the mum attempting to shop with the children in her local Sainsbury’s.

She could be seen trying to get two of the youngsters to stay in the trolley as the other two ran around the aisles.

The footage then showed Rose unable to pay for her shopping before the family left the store.

An hour before the horror, the mum was heard “screaming, shouting and swearing” at the children.

She yelled “why would you f***ing do that?” before heading back to Sainsbury’s alone.

Neighbours realised the house was on fire at around 7pm and could hear the tragic children inside but were unable to gain access.

Prosecutor Kate Lumsdon KC said: “A neighbour kicked in the door but the fire had taken hold to the extent that it was impossible to enter.

“The fire brigade were called. Many units attended. Using appropriate protective clothing and breathing apparatus firemen put out the fire and entered the house.

“They found the four boys under a bed in the upstairs front room. They were limp and unconscious.

“Firemen noted that there was rubbish all over the floor of the house and human excrement. There was a mattress and a door on the stairs.”

The court heard Rose arrived home to find her terraced home alight.

She at first claimed she had left the children with a woman named Jade – causing firefighters to go back inside to search for her.

But there was no sign of her, with police also finding “no trace” of Jade.

Emergency crews attempted to save the four children but tragically they were declared dead shortly after.

Logan was the first to be declared dead at 8.39pm, followed by Leyton at 8.40pm, Kyson at 9.12pm and Bryson at 9.36pm.

A cause of death was given as inhalation of fire fumes.

Rose was arrested following the horror and told police: “My kids just died and I’m being f***ing arrested”.

The court was told social services were engaged with the children between July and September 2021.

It came after a GP noted there was a “chaotic home environment”.

Officials found the garden was full of rubbish and there was a “very strong unpleasant smell”.

One added: “I asked to see the boys and Deveca refused saying they were asleep. I went to leave but asked again as I was going, Deveca then became quite manic and was defensive, walking out the door with me and pulling it closed behind her.

“I am concerned about her mental health and the fact that she refused to let me see the boys.”

But the case was closed when Rose failed to engage in further meetings.

The court was also told the boys had also not attended school for three months before the tragedy but teachers did not find this strange as it was during Covid.

Epic Games Store is now giving away mobile games every month – first two titles revealed

Illustrations and screenshots of mobile games available on the Epic Games Store.

EPIC Games Store is bringing a slew of new features to its mobile app on Android and iOS, including third-party games.

To celebrate, the mobile storefront will start offering monthly free games, just like the weekly giveaways on the PC store.

Baloon TD 6 is the next free game on EGS Mobile and it’s “coming soon”[/caption]

The Epic Games Store on mobile now offers games from third-party developers for purchase, on top of Epic’s own Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League Sideswipe.

The mobile app also adds new features, such as login with an Epic Account and automatic updates for games installed via the store.

To complement the new features, the EGS Mobile app is launching a free games programme, similar to what PC users have been enjoying for years.

At first, free games will be offered at a monthly cadence, with plans to move to a weekly schedule later this year.

Epic Games Store Mobile’s first free game offered this month is Dungeon of the Endless: Apogee.

The roguelike tower defense game will be up for grabs until February 20, 2025.

Bloons TD 6 has been announced as the next free game and according to Epic Games, it’s “coming soon”.

It is unclear whether both games will be free at the same time soon or players will have to wait for the Dungeon of the Endless offer to end before they can grab Baloons TD 6.

Epic Games launched its mobile app just a few months ago, and it’s quickly ramping up its offering for Android and iOS devices.

The storefront’s main goal is to avoid Google and Apple‘s app stores and sell games to mobile users directly.

While the app can be downloaded on Android devices worldwide, on iPhone and iPad, only users based in the EU can get it.

This is because Apple has been forced to open up its devices to third-party stores there under the EU’s Digital Markets Act.

Epic Games plans to bring EGS Mobile to iOS in the United Kingdom and Japan in 2025.

Marcus Rashford’s Barcelona transfer could be torpedoed by ASTON VILLA after £325,000-a-week Man Utd ace offered to club

MARCUS RASHFORD’s potential loan move to Barcelona could fall apart – because of Aston Villa’s transfer business.

The out-of-favour Manchester United star, 27, has been linked with a temporary switch to the Nou Camp.

Marcus Rashford has been linked with a loan move to Barcelona[/caption] Marcus Rashford's Manchester United 2024-25 EPL stats.

Rashford has been a target for Dortmund, AC Milan and Napoli this window after being frozen out by new Utd boss Ruben Amorim.

But his mammoth £325,000-a-week wages have proved a stumbling block in negotiations.

Barcelona are reportedly desperate to bring the 27-year-old in to turn around their stuttering LaLiga campaign.

To do so, they have to save enough money to register him within their league spending cap.

According to ESPN, Barcelona were desperate for Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza to join Aston Villa earlier this month.

The Catalan giants retain 50 per cent of any future transfer fee the defender raises after selling him to Celta in 2022.

That deal never materialised, with Villa instead turning to Levante’s Andres Garcia to shore up their defensive options.

The report adds Rashford has been “offered to every top club in France, Spain and Italy.”

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco and Marseille were all reportedly contacted.

Barcelona had also hoped to raise funds by selling winger Ansu Fati.

But he is reportedly unwilling to leave the club this January.

As such, they are scrambling around late in the window – and may not be able to raise enough cash to afford Rashford.

The England striker watched from the stands as Man Utd beat Rangers 2-1 in the Europe League on Thursday.

He was left out of Amorim‘s squad again – despite the Red Devils boss having three spaces spare on his bench.

Rashford has now been dumped out by Amorim for ten-straight games.

Rashford has been frozen out since giving an interview last month where he declared he was “ready for a new challenge.”

Despite not playing against Rangers, Rashford gave his full support to his teammates from the terraces.

Speaking on Instagram, the forward posted his view of the pitch, accompanied by the caption: “Come on the boys”.

Man Utd ratings: Bruno Fernandes captain fantastic in last-gasp win but Harry Maguire asleep in dreadful cameo

MANCHESTER UNITED all but sealed automatic qualification to the last 16 of the Europa League thanks to a last-gasp win over Rangers.

The Red Devils welcomed the Scottish giants to Old Trafford in the penultimate group match of their European campaign on Thursday night.

And they took a giant step towards a top-eight finish thanks to a 2-1 win at Old Trafford.

A calamitous own second-half goal from Gers stopper Jack Butland broke the deadlock.

Cyriel Dessers thought he’d rescued a point for the visitors in the 88th minute before Bruno Fernandes broke the hearts of the travelling Teddy Bears four minutes later.

SunSport’s Ken Lawrence was in attendance for the Battle of Britain and is on hand to rate and slate the performances of Ruben Amorim‘s side.

Altay Bayindir – 7

The Turk is a better keeper than No 1 Andre Onana, especially dealing with corners.

Took a sore one colliding with Toby Collyer showing exactly that.

Leny Yoro – 5

The £52m central defender was deployed on the right side of Rubin Amorim’s three-man rearguard.

Youngster was shaky at times but looked better when he had the ball.

Matthijs de Ligt – 4

Terrible early touch stranded Toby Collyer – Nicolas Raskin’s even worse touch let him off the hook.

Hooked at the break – no surprise there, although Amorim said afterwards that he “felt something”.

Lisandro Martinez – 5

Once known as The Butcher of Amsterdam but he’s long lost that scary presence.

Another one who doesn’t look happy in the new system.

Amad Diallo – 7

Looks a bit different these days since his tough time on loan at Rangers three years ago.

Not on wonder-boy form this time but still a threat.

Toby Collyer – 6

Made his first appearance on a European stage and the boy done good.

The 21 year old is a very decent emerging midfielder.

Christian Eriksen – 6

Turns 33 next month and his legs aren’t really up to playing in centre midfield.

He’s always been a creator anyway but he dug in.

Diogo Dalot – 5

Started out on his wrong foot as a left wing back.

Switched midway through the second half and looked far more comfortable.

Bruno Fernandes – 9

You wonder if he drives himself as mad as he must do his manager at times. But scored a fantastic winner.

Joshua Zirkzee – 4

Ruben. He’s NOT a centre-forward.

Whatever £36m bought, it wasn’t a natural striker and it’s unfair to be playing him up there on his own.

Alejandro Garnacho – 8

Busy and focused – didn’t look like any talk of being sold to Chelsea was bothering him.

On this sparkling evidence United would be mad to let him go anywhere.

SUBS
Maguire (for De Ligt 46) 3 Totally asleep for Rangers’ equaliser.

Malacia (for Yoro 56) 5 : Looking happier now injury worries over

Ugarte (for Collyer 73) 5 : Put in a solid short spell.

Mainoo (Eriksen 73) 5 : Added strength and mobility.

Hojlund (for Zirkzee 82) 5 : Ran about a bit – he’s good at that.

Staggering cost of crossing Britain’s newest tunnel revealed with millions of drivers forced to pay up to £20 every DAY

Interior of a newly paved tunnel.

MILLIONS of drivers will need to fork out to use the nation’s newest tunnel – with some facing charges of up to £20 a day to cross through it.

The Silvertown Tunnel will finally open on April 7, 2024, but drivers will have to start paying to use from day one.

The Silvertown Tunnel has been under construction in London for over 10 years and will connect Greenwich Peninsula to Newham.

It is hoped that this will ease congestion on the neighbouring Blackwall Tunnel.

However, Transport For London (TFL) have confirmed that the new tunnel will not be free to use.

They added that a new charge is also being introduced for drivers using the Blackwall Tunnel.

Although some people may qualify for a discount or exemption, most drivers will pay a minimum of £1.50 to use each tunnel.

This payment rises and falls depending on the weight of your vehicle.

For example, motorbikes will have to pay £2.50 at peak times where HGVs will have to pay £10 at peak times.

Drivers will have to pay each time they use the tunnel, which means they could be charged several times a day.

Failure to pay the charge will result in a Penalty Charge Notice, worth up to £180.

That fine will be reduced to £90, if it is paid within 2 weeks.

TFL have advised drivers to use their Auto Pay service, which will allow drivers to be charged automatically instead of needing to log onto the website.

Illustration of vehicles using a new tunnel.
The tunnel will be available to buses, cars, HGVs and mopeds but not bicycles
TFL

Although the tunnel will be open 24 hours a day, drivers will only need to pay between 6am and 10pm.

TFl have said that the payment is designed to limit congestion and to support the flow of traffic.

A 50% discount will be offered to drivers who claim benefits including Universal Credit, Carer’s Allowance and Income Support living in Barking & Dagenham, Bexley, Bromley, City of London, Greenwich, Hackney, Lewisham, Newham, Redbridge, Southwark, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

A full exemption will be offered to Wheelchair-accessible private hire vehicles and Blue Badge holders who are already registered for the ULEZ discount.

Several small businesses, sole traders and charities registered in Newham, Greenwich or Tower Hamlets are eligible for a £1 discount.

Also, free pay as you go fares will be offered to local residents, who travel between either Cutty Sark & Island Gardens or Woolwich Arsenal & King George V on the DLR.

Those residents will also receive free pay as you go fares on the new Superloop SL4 and route 129, which will go through the Silvertown Tunnel, and route 108 through the Blackwall Tunnel.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan previously said Silvertown Tunnel will ‘ease congestion for drivers, reduce journey times and help manage air pollution.’

Full list of Silvertown Tunnel payments

The new Silvertown Tunnel will connect Greenwich Peninsula and Newham, but drivers will be charged each time they use the tunnel.

The amount that you will need to pay depends on the weight of your vehicle and when you travel.

The full list of potential charges includes:

Motorcycle, moped, motor tricycle: £1.50 (Auto Pay off-peak), £2.50 (Auto Pay peak times), £2.50 (charges paid without Auto Pay)

Cars and small vans – £1.50 (Auto Pay off-peak), £4 (Auto Pay peak times), £4 (charges paid by phone or online)

Large vans – £2.50 (Auto Pay off-peak), £6.50 (Auto Pay peak times), £6.50 (charges paid by phone or online)

HGVs – £5 (Auto Pay off-peak), £10 (Auto Pay peak times), £10 (charges paid by phone or online)

Charges will apply from 6am until 10pm, 7 days a week.

However, travelling outside these hours will be free.

Hannah, from Ashington, Northumberland had just finished school and was planning to study travel and tourism at Newcastle College.

But her plans were put on hold after the cancer diagnosis.

The teen underwent six rounds of chemotherapy and on January 7, she was told she was in remission, which means there is no sign of cancer in the body.

Throughout it all, Hannah’s boyfriend, Kieron Stokoe, 18, was by her side, supporting her “every step of the way.”

Plans to celebrate her recovery with a holiday to Mallorca were in the works when tragedy struck again.

On January 14, during a routine blood test, Hannah suffered two seizures. Her heart stopped shortly after.

Jill described how Hannah appeared “very pale” and was vomiting before the test.

“Her breathing was ragged and she was struggling,” the mum said.

Hannah complained of extreme pain in her legs, to the point where Jill “could not lay a finger on them.”

Another seizure took hold, and the emergency team was called and the room quickly filled with staff.

“Her eyes were rolling back in her head – she was panicking,” Jill recalled.

“Her breathing was really laboured and she was really struggling.”

It was at this point Hannah was moved to critical care, and Jill began to fear the worst.

“I knew she was seriously ill, but I never thought we’d lose her,” she said.

After some time, a nurse entered the room, tears in her eyes. “I’m sorry, Hannah is gone,” she said.

Jill couldn’t believe it.

“What do you mean, she’s gone?” she asked.

The nurse explained that about 55 minutes ago, her heart stopped beating.

“We’ve been trying to resuscitate her, but I’m so sorry, she’s gone,” Jiill remembers the nurse telling her.

What are the symptoms of sepsis?

SEPSIS is a life-threatening reaction to an infection that happens when your immune system overreacts and starts to damage your body's own tissues and organs.

Symptoms of sepsis in an adult include:

  • Acting confused, slurred speech or not making sense
  • Blue, grey, pale or blotchy skin, lips or tongue – on brown or black skin, this may be easier to see on the palms of the hands or soles of the feet
  • A rash that does not fade when you roll a glass over it, the same as meningitis
  • Difficulty breathing, breathlessness or breathing very fast

Symptoms in a child include:

  • Blue, grey, pale or blotchy skin, lips or tongue – on brown or black skin, this may be easier to see on the palms of the hands or soles of the feet
  • A rash that does not fade when you roll a glass over it, the same as meningitis
  • Difficulty breathing (you may notice grunting noises or their stomach sucking under their ribcage), breathlessness or breathing very fast
  • A weak, high-pitched cry that’s not like their normal cry
  • Not responding like they normally do, or not interested in feeding or normal activities
  • Being sleepier than normal or having difficulty waking

They may not have all these symptoms.

If you think you or someone else has symptoms of sepsis, call 999 or go to A&E.

Jill and Hannah’s father, Michael, went into the critical care unit where they were still doing “brutal” chest compressions on Hannah,

But when Jill held her hand she “knew she was gone”.

“It was just surreal, like it was not really happening and she was going to wake up – it happened so quickly, there was no warning,” the mum added.

“It was just the cruellest thing ever. Her whole life had been on hold. It was just the most devastating thing that could possibly happen.”

Hannah had dreamed of having “two or three” children.

She had her ovary removed for preservation, hoping for a future family.

“Hannah was like a second mother to her younger brother. She was so caring,” Jill said.

The family has raised over £3,500 on GoFundMe for funeral expenses.

They are now awaiting the results of an inquest to determine what caused Hannah’s sudden death.

Her parents believe it could have been sepsis, which happens when the body has a reaction to an infection.

It can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death.

Globally, one third of people who develop sepsis die, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

And many who do survive are left with life-changing effects, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), chronic pain and fatigue, organ dysfunction (organs don’t work properly), and amputations.

What is Hodgkin lymphoma?

HODGKIN lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that starts in white blood cells called lymphocytes.

It is not common, with around 2,100 people diagnosed every year in the UK.

Like all cancers, symptoms vary and can be vague. However, patients usually notice swelling in one or more lymph nodes.

This can be in any area of the body, but is often in the neck, armpit or groin.

The swelling is usually painless, although some people find that it aches.

Some people with Hodgkin lymphoma also have other more general symptoms. These can include:

  • Night sweats
  • Unintentional weight loss
  • A high temperature (fever)
  • A persistent cough or feeling of breathlessness
  • Persistent itching of the skin all over the body
