AS many pet owners will agree – nothing quite compares to the feeling of cuddling with your pooch.
And if it’s snuggles on the couch that you’re after, there are certain breeds you will want to consider when getting a dog.
Some breeds are labelled ‘velcro dogs’ because they’re so affectionate[/caption]
Like people, dogs have many different personality traits, and some breeds are more known for showing and receiving affection than others.
Catrin George, animal wellbeing specialist at Animal Friends Pet Insurance, says: “There are a number of different breeds that have earned the name ‘Velcro Dogs’ because they want to be as close to their humans as possible.
“These include the energetic Brussels Griffon as well as the ever-loyal Labrador and Golden Retriever.
“The Boxer is known for being a protective breed that gets on well with strangers too, making them a great addition to any family looking for an affectionate pooch.”
She adds: “Dogs that were bred to hunt in packs such as the Beagle and the Dachshund, are naturally inclined to enjoy the company of others, whether that’s dogs or humans, and as a result are known for being loving.
“The Bichon Frise and King Charles Spaniel also fall into the affectionate breed category, as both are known for being lap dogs, and would make a great addition to the family if you are looking for an attentive dog.”
And they’re not shy when it comes to showing their love, with their tails and noses often giving them away.
Catrin continues: “Whilst every dog is different, research has shown that they do love their owners and they’ll show this in their own ways.
“Signs to look out for include wagging their tails, leaning into you, nudging you with their noses, or even sitting near or sometimes, on you.”
Alternate ways to show love to your pets
Whilst hugging is one way to show your pet affection, it’s not the only way to build a connection with them.
And some breeds will prefer alternate forms of touch and petting.
Catrin says: “When it comes to dogs, look out for the signs that they aren’t comfortable when cuddling, these include them leaning away or licking their lips when you touch them.
“They might also avoid looking at you or move further away from your touch. If they show these signs, it’s best to stop and find other ways to show your love and be affectionate.”
She adds: “Taking the time to get to know what they like is important and again, this can vary a lot by breed.
“For example, arctic breeds, such as a Siberian Husky enjoy playtime with their owners, and being active with them is a great way to build a connection.
“Similarly, sporting breeds, for example Spaniels, running, swimming, and playing fetch will likely make them happy.
“Lastly, breeds such as the Chow Chow or Shiba Inu can be a little more aloof and will likely want to come to you, as opposed to you going to them. They prefer things to be on their own terms.”

EMMERDALE viewers have been left stunned after discovering Zoe Henry had a surprising past in another ITV soap before her time as Rhona Goskirk.
Before making her debut in the Dales in 2001, Zoe appeared in several other well-known TV shows, including Casualty and A Touch of Frost.

She played Spider’s vegan girlfriend briefly on Coronation Street[/caption]
Jealous Toyah Battersby plotted to split the couple up[/caption]
However, some fans fans are only just learning about Zoe’s stint on Coronation Street.
Zoe first showed up on the cobbles in 1998 as Log Thwaite, Spider Nugent’s vegan girlfriend.
Despite just appearing in six episodes, Log made quite the impression, especially when Toyah Battersby tricked her into eating a bacon sandwich.
This ultimately led to Spider breaking up with her.
Fans were quick to share their surprise online, with one viewer admitting: “I had to Google it and it is her!”
Another added: “I did not recognise her.”
“I didn’t know that was Rhona, she was young there,” a third shared.
Zoe reflected on the role during a recent interview with Metro, saying: “It was my first job out of drama school, and I was absolutely thrilled.
“Log was an ex-girlfriend of Spider who turned up out of the blue, but Toyah drove them apart. Georgia Taylor, who plays Toyah, is always very sweet when I see her now.”
But that wasn’t the last time Zoe popped up on Coronation Street.
In 2007 she returned as Casey Carswell, who became friends with Claire Peacock before having an affair with Claire’s husband, Ashley.
Meanwhile on Emmerdale, Zoe’s character is currently involved in a dramatic storyline.
Rhona’s stepdaughter April Windsor suddenly went missing on Christmas Day.

DONALD Trump’s return to the White House could have been foreseen by books from the 1800s, it’s been claimed.
A pair of obscure novels by American author Ingersoll Lockwood are fuelling wild conspiracy theories that claim to predict political chaos, Trump’s own family ties and even if he could be “the last president”.
Two books from the 1800s have several eerie links to President Donald Trump[/caption]

One of the novels follows a young aristocrat named Baron Trump, who is portrayed as an intelligent, curious and often arrogant child[/caption]
Born in New York in 1841, Ingersoll Lockwood had an eclectic career as a lawyer, diplomat, and author.
While his novels never achieved widespread success during his lifetime, wild theories about his stories are being widely shared on TikTok.
One post, now with over 5.9 million views, highlighted the eerie similarities between reality and fiction.
The short video gathered thousands of comments, with some comparing the situation to other alleged pop-culture predictions, such as The Simpsons episodes that eerily mirror real-world events.
“Too many coincidences is mathematically impossible,” one wrote.
Skeptics, however, dismiss the theories as pure coincidence, saying that any parallels to modern events are simply the result of overactive imaginations.
With time travel, mysterious portals, and uncanny parallels to real life, the books are sparking fresh intrigue on America’s latest leader.
Baron Trump’s Marvelous Underground Journey (1888), and the 1896 novel The Last President have long been a niche fascination for conspiracy theorists.
Some say there are striking connections between the novels and Donald Trump, his youngest son Barron, and events from his presidency.
The first novel follows a young aristocrat ironically named Baron Trump, who lives in Castle Trump.
He is portrayed as an intelligent, curious and often arrogant child.
Guided by a mentor named Don, the boy embarks on fantastical journeys to discover magical portals, including one in Russia.
The character’s full name, Wilhelm Heinrich Sebastian Von Troomp, hints at German ancestry — much like the Trump family, whose roots trace back to Germany.
The second book, The Last President, is where things get even stranger.
It describes a shocking and contentious election that leaves New York City – Trump’s hometown – in chaos.
Protesters storm Fifth Avenue – where Trump Tower stands today – led by anarchists and socialists outraged by the election of a populist president.
Adding to the intrigue, the fictional president appoints a man named “Pence” to his cabinet.

These uncanny details have fuelled conspiracy theories suggesting the books were ore than mere fiction.
Some speculate that Lockwood had access to prophetic knowledge – or even that Trump himself is a time traveller.
The latter theory ties back to Trump’s late uncle, John G Trump, a renowned scientists who studied the papers of Nikola Tesla.
Not only was Tesla a man associated with futuristic ideas but the one behind the name of Trump BFF Elon Musk’s famous car company.
Theories about Trump’s time-traveling abilities have floated around since his 2016 presidency, but Baron Trump’s Marvelous Underground Journey and The Last President have now provided a new layer of mystery.

The Simpsons theories on Donald Trump
THE Simpsons have long been associated with eerie predictions about Donald Trump, with many fans discussing theories around their apparent foresight.
Many of these predictions are likely coincidences or extrapolations of cultural trends, but their uncanny accuracy continues to fuel fascination.
Here are some of the major theories and predictions tied to Trump:
The escalator scene (2015)
A scene from The Simpsons (short titled Trumptastic Voyage, 2015) depicts Trump descending an escalator in almost the exact same way as he did in real life during his campaign announcement at Trump Tower.
Fans were shocked by the similarity, especially since even the crowd behaviour in the scene mirrored reality.
Trump’s death theory (2000)
A darker fan theory speculates that The Simpsons predicted Trump’s death.
In the “Bart to the Future” episode, Lisa mentions “cleaning up after Trump,” which some interpret metaphorically as his downfall.
Additionally, in a 2016 chalkboard gag, Bart writes, “Being right sucks,” referencing the accuracy of the show’s predictions, which fans tie back to Trump.
Voting machine fraud (2012)
In “Treehouse of Horror XIX” (2008), Homer tries to vote for Barack Obama but the machine switches his vote to John McCain.
Years later, during the 2016 election, rumours of voting machine irregularities surfaced, with many tying this scene to Trump’s victory.
Trump’s political impact on America
Some fans theorize that The Simpsons used Trump as a symbol for political absurdity and division. His portrayal in the show and subsequent election is seen as a reflection of America’s shifting political norms, with the writers satirizing the rise of celebrity politicians.

LOVE Island star Tanyel Revan has branded Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Curtis Pritchard a “game player” – saying “they’re two actors”.
Curtis Pritchard, 28, andEkin-Su, 30, have been getting to know each other for the past two weeks in the All Stars villa.

The series eight Islander said Ekin-Su is ‘acting’[/caption]
Tanyel said Ekin-Su has previously ‘contradicted’ herself[/caption]
But fans were quick to slam their connection as a “showmance” after they declared they’re officially “closed off” after nine days.
And Tanyel, who appeared on series eight in 2023, agrees saying they are a pair of “actors” and are faking the whole thing for a career boost.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Tanyel said: “The best way to say this, is they’re two actors. They’re faking it.
“I’m sorry but Curtis would give me the ick.
“I think she’s [Ekin-Su] just good at acting. I personally think she knows what she’s doing.
“I don’t think she’s gone on there for the right reasons.
“She went on Big Brother and told everyone she didn’t want to be known for Love Island and put Love Island down 24/7 on that show, that’s why she got so much hate when she went in and contradicted what she said – it doesn’t weigh up.
“I’m assuming the producers tried to convince her to come on, she probably thought I could make myself look better again, obviously because she didn’t have the best experience on Big Brother.
“She’s trying to be the mother of the villa.”
“No one’s personality can change that many times on three different shows, it doesn’t make sense.”
Tanyel Revan
Tanyel pointed out Curtis’ big slip-up when he admitted things were “moving too fast” but then agreed to “close things off” with Ekin within 24 hours.
She said: “I think he realised it was too much, but then has to keep acting. She doesn’t care if he’s got the ick, because she doesn’t want him anyway, she’s not going to lock it off on the outside.
Tanyel added: “No one’s personality can change that many times on three different shows, it doesn’t make sense.”
Love at first sight?
Earlier this week, some fans were left baffled as Ekin-Su and Curtis declared they’re officially closed off after just nine days.
Ekin-Su wanted an update on their relationship and to make sure they were on the same page.
The former Traitors USA personality wondered if they were either going too fast or too slow as she enquired about the progress.
Curtis seemed enthusiastic with the way things were going, as he told her he was happy with the speed of their blossoming relationship.
He said: “I am a one woman man,” as he assured her about his commitment.
The pair then decided together that they were both ‘closed off’ within the villa, and had no intention of looking elsewhere.
