Premier League’s most searched managers revealed with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta only 10th and just above Sean Dyche

LIVERPOOL boss Arne Slot was the most Google searched gaffer in the UK and worldwide during 2024.

Online bookmakers, Betfree, have analysed the Google search data of all 29 Premier League managers across this calendar year.

Sean Dyche sits just below Mikel Arteta in the rankings

Slot is the UK’s most popular Premier League manager, with an average of 251,316 searches reported per month.

Globally, the Dutchman is Googled an average of 1.15 million times per month.

He replaced club legend Jurgen Klopp in the summer and has already mounted a title charge during his first season at Anfield.

With Manchester City facing an unprecedented crisis, Liverpool have been the most in-form side and sit seven points clear of Chelsea at the top of the league after their Boxing Day win over Leicester.

But Slot’s title rival Mikel Arteta has just about made the top 10, with an average of 62,868 searches every 30 days.

Everton boss Sean Dyche was surprisingly just below Arteta, with 43,432 hunts per month.

And Newcastle‘s Eddie Howe is the second most popular Premier League manager in the UK, with an average of 155,003 searches.

The Englishman ranks eighth globally, with 216,745 searches worldwide.

Pep Guardiola is the UK’s third favourite manager, with an average of 141,244 searches reported.

Since joining City in 2016, Guardiola has transformed the club into one of the most successful teams in the world.

Ruben Amorim is the fourth most searched manager in the Prem

As of December 2024, Guardiola has won 35 major trophies in his managerial career across three different clubs.

Manchester United‘s newly appointed gaffer Ruben Amorim averages 102,046 look ups, making him the UK’s fourth most sought-after manager.

Unlike Slot, who recorded the best ever managerial start of any Liverpool boss, Amorim set an unwanted record after United’s 2-0 defeat to relegation strugglers Wolves.

Amorim is the first United boss to lose five of his first 10 matches for 92 years as his rough start to life at Old Trafford continues.

Bruno Fernandes was shown a second yellow card – his third dismissal of the season – before goals from Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan wrapped up a huge win for Vitor Pereira’s men.

There is no data for Pereira yet as the Portuguese coach only replaced Gary O’Neil eight days ago.

Ranking fifth through to ninth are Enzo Marseca, Kieran McKenna, Ange Postecoglou, Unai Emery and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

While there is no place in the top 10 for Julen Lopetegui, Thomas Frank, Andoni Iraola or Marco Silva.

And as high-flying Nottingham Forest sit third in the Prem, their manager Nuno Espirito Santo languishes bottom in Google searches, with an average of 1,829 per month.

Home Bargains New Year’s Day 2024 opening times: What time are stores open?

HOME Bargains has become one of the UK’s favourite high street shops.

The chain will be adjusting their hours over New Year, in order to give its hardworking employees a well-earned break.

Home Bargains over the festive period

Home Bargains normally adjusts its hours over the Christmas and New Year period.

In 2024, they issued a statement about wanting to give back to their workers.

The chain said: “We know how hard all our colleagues have worked throughout the year.

“Being a family-run business, we recognise the importance of spending quality time with our loved ones.

“Therefore, we feel it is only right to support our valued store teams by giving them extended time off around Christmas and New Year.”

This meant that the company allowed its workers to finish at 5pm on Christmas Eve 2024 and the store reopened several days later on December 27.

On New Year’s Eve, the shop will operate under its regular hours before closing on January 1, 2025.

It will reopen as normal on January 2, 2025.

Home Bargains’ incredible journey

Home Bargains was first opened in Liverpool, in 1976, by its founder Tom Morris.

The store, whose founder was just 21 years old when he opened the shop, has grown to become one of the largest private companies in the UK.

As of December 2024, there are more than 600 Home Bargains shops in the UK.

Are Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Aldi open? New Year’s Day opening times revealed

NEW YEAR is another busy time for UK supermarkets, as shoppers stock up for their celebrations.

However, many stores will have reduced hours on New Year’s Day, just like they did on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. So when will your favourite supermarket be open?

Aldi

Aldi is one of the cheapest supermarkets in the country, having won Which?’s Cheapest Supermarket of the Year for three years in a row.

The budget-friendly chain will open each day in the lead-up to the New Year, before once again closing on January 1, having shuttered its doors for Christmas.

Aldi will close on New Year’s Eve at 6pm.

The popular budget supermarket will then re-open on January 2, so that their workers can spend time with their families.

M&S

According to YouGov’s 2024 poll, M&S is the nation’s second favourite supermarket after Aldi.

The luxury brand is beloved for its food halls and wide range of options, including its vegan friendly Plant Kitchen range.

The high-street favourite will give its workers some time off on New Year’s Day, when it will shut once again.

Some stores will be open until 7pm on both December 31 and January 1, hence shoppers are advised to check their local branch beforehand.

Tesco

Tesco has cornered the market when it comes to lunch, thanks to the runaway success of its £3.50 meal deals.

The supermarket will operate under reduced hours on January 1, 2025.

On December 31, Tesco Extras and superstores will be open from 5am to 7pm, and local stores will open from 6am to 10pm.

On January 1, superstores will open a bit later, from 8pm to 6pm, while Express stores will run from 8am to 10pm.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s will remain open on New Year’s Day.

The chain’s 2,300 nationwide stores are expected to resume normal trading hours on January 2.

On December 31, most stores will be open from 10am to 7pm, with local stores running longer hours, from 6am to 9pm.

On January 1, stores will open from 8am to 8pm, and convenience stores will stay open a little later, from 8am to 9pm.

As with Tesco, local stores may vary their opening times so ask in your local branch about their festive hours.

Morrisons

Morrisons is the fourth biggest supermarket chain in the UK and is loved for its low prices.

The supermarket also serves 9 million customers every week and is even busier during December.

To keep up with demand, the supermarket will have reduced operating hours for December 31 and January 1.

On New Year’s Eve, some stores will open as early as 6am or 7am and close by 7pm.

On January 1, all stores will be open from 9am to 6pm.

Ask for more details in your local branch.

Asda

Asda stores will be open around the country on both New Years Eve and New Years Day.

On New Year’s Eve, stores will remain open from 7am to 7pm.

However, they will close early on New Year’s Day, at 6pm.

Shoppers are advised to use the store locator tool on Asda’s website to check their local shop’s opening hours.

Co-op

Most Co-op stores will stay open through the New Year, as they usually do on bank holidays—though Christmas Day is the one big exception when they close their doors.

That said, on bank holidays, opening hours can vary, with some stores opening later or closing earlier than usual.

It’s always a good idea to check the hours for your local store to be sure.

Waitrose

Ahead of the busy festive period, Waitrose made a statement about their opening hours.

They said: “For New Year’s Day, some shops will be opening as normal for trading with reduced hours.”

Shoppers are advised to check with their local store for specific festive season opening hours.

I couldn’t make it up the stairs without collapsing but now I’ve lost half my body weight – here’s my advice to others

A WOMAN who was forced her to sleep on the sofa because stairs were too difficult has lost almost half her weight.

Ash Mac, a 32-year-old makeup artist from Melbourne, Australia, once tipped the scales at 18st 3lbs (115kg), and was a size 22.

She made sustainable changes and lost 6st 8lbs (41.7kg) in around one year[/caption]

But today, Ash wears a size 12 and weighs 11st 9lbs (73 kg), losing an incredible 6st 8lbs (41.7kg) – and all by changing her diet and activity levels.

One of the most touching moments of her journey came when a friend told her, “You walk with purpose now,” which Ash considers the greatest compliment she’s ever received.

Ash says she always had a “complicated” relationship with food.

“Even as a child, I battled with portion control,” Ash shared.

“During my teens and 20s, I tried every fad diet and weight loss method you can think of, but nothing ever worked long-term.

“I was stuck in this ‘all or nothing’ mentality.

“I’d get frustrated and give up if I didn’t see results fast enough. That disappointment would just push me back to comfort eating, and the cycle would start all over again.”

Years of overeating took its toll – not only impacting Ash’s self-esteem but also her physical health.

“I began experiencing unbearable back and hip pain,” Ash explained.

“After a series of tests, my doctor discovered I had low vitamin D levels, and it was affecting my bone density, which only worsened the pain.

“The more weight I carried, the harder even the simplest tasks became.

“Walking, moving, even climbing the stairs – everything hurt. It got so bad that I was practically immobilised by the pain.

“I had to sleep on the couch because I physically couldn’t make it up the stairs without collapsing.”

For Ash, the turning point came when her partner, Andre, decided to take charge of his own health.

I broke down, had a panic attack and felt disgusted with myself. I decided enough was enough and it was time to make some serious major changes.

Ash

“Andre started his weight loss journey in May 2023,” Ash recalled.

“He got himself an online coach and began a very strict and rigorous diet plan.

“I could see this working so well for him – he’s already dropped 77 lbs (34 kg) and [I] felt absolutely helpless on the sidelines not being able to better myself in the same way.

“I’d previously given so many excuses to not dive in, and I’d completely had enough.

“I broke down, had a panic attack and felt disgusted with myself. I decided enough was enough and it was time to make some serious major changes.”

The first change Ash made was adjusting her diet.

She says: “Before losing weight, even though I ate a lot of fruits and vegetables, I didn’t know when to stop and struggled to recognise when I was full.

“I had no concept of nutrition either and was always eating out and having takeaways.

“Now, I have a much better handle on portion control and am more mindful of my nutrition.

“I meal prep every Sunday for the entire week (every meal) so I stay on track and don’t fall back into bad habits out of convenience or laziness.”

With her diet in check, Ash turned her focus to exercise, saying: “Learning to love to move my body was a big challenge.

“But the more I did it, the easier it became.

“Currently, I’m in the gym 2-3 times a week, walking daily, and playing field hockey two times a week. This has evolved from being absolutely petrified to step into a gym (let alone work out), to going on 5km runs weekly and lifting weights confidently.

“I played hockey growing up and have had a 10-year hiatus due to a lack of confidence and weight gain.

“Losing weight, I’ve felt confident about getting back on the field, and I probably love it more now than I ever did when I was younger.”

Ash admits her weight does fluctuate and she hasn’t reached her “goal body” just yet.

She says: “I still have weight I want to lose, and I will be going about it slowly and sustainably to ensure it sticks.

“I also have lots of loose skin around my bust, stomach, and arms, which I hope will firm up a little through exercise. I want to be the best version of myself mentally, being comfortable in my own skin – whatever size I find myself in.”

When asked what advice she would give to others who are struggling with weight loss, Ash says: “Take it one day at a time, and choose to show up for yourself even when it’s hard.

“Not every day is easy, but if you can sit back and look at things objectively rather than in the height of emotion, you will better be able to move past set backs when they inevitably come up.”

How to blast belly fat WITHOUT going to gym or dieting

Chew your food

This mindfulness trick is used to focus your brain on the food you are eating – how it tastes and feels – rather than scoffing it in a hurry. If the brain does not register that you have eaten, you’ll soon crave more food.

Avocado a day

Eating avocado every day can fight visceral fat in women, which collects around the organs in the stomach and can lead to diabetes, heart attack, and some cancers, according to a University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign study of 105 people.

Avoid fizzy drinks

Losing belly “fat” may just be a case of preventing bloating, which can be onset by fizzy soft drinks. Instead, keep hydrated with water.

Reduce alcohol

Alcohol does no favours at all for our health or figures. It is ’empty calories’, meaning it contributes to your calorie intake without giving any nutritional benefit.

Hangovers can also lead you to eat more fatty foods, while putting you off exercising.

Sleep more

Various studies have shown that if you’re not sleeping well, it can cause weight gain.

People are more likely to crave junk food when they are sleep deprived because, not only are they in need of an energy boost, but their appetite hormones are all over the place.

Reduce stress

Stress causes an imbalance of hormones, particularly cortisol. This hormone has been linked with obesity and excess belly fat.

Find ways to reduce your stress to avoid the so-called ‘stress belly’.
