Man, 46, arrested over ‘threatening to kill Trump’ after sharing ‘violent’ social media posts against President

A FLORIDA man has been arrested after cops accused him of making “violent” threats against President Donald Trump on social media.

Shannon Atkins, 46, allegedly wrote on Facebook a day before Trump’s inauguration: “America needs one good bullet to be saved.”

West Palm Beach Police Chief Tony Araujo said the posts showed a ‘violent rhetoric’[/caption]

Several others disturbing online posts were also uncovered from January 19, according to West Palm Beach police.

Reportedly referencing the Republican, one said: “I’ve been banned from X because I said I hope and pray someone kills him.

“History is supposed to repeat itself. We haven’t had an assassination in years.”

A further concerning post from the same account allegedly belonging to Atkins read: “Bullets please. Please Jesus! Save America”.

The caption was in response to an image of a meme which described inauguration day as a “day of mourning for USA”.

Shortly before his eventual arrest, Atkins also reposted a meme showing Trump with his late first wife Ivanka.

A line above the image read: “I hope they get back together soon.”

West Palm Beach Police Chief Tony Araujo said at a news conference: “That gives you a flavor of some of the posts that this gentleman posted.”

He added that the posts showed a “violent rhetoric”.

Atkins was caught and detained on Friday night after a tip off to the FBI threat center, police said in a news release.

He was tracked down at around 7:30pm as officers conducted a traffic stop.

He was in possession of three bags of cocaine at the time of his arrest, officers said.

Along with the drug charge he also faces one count of written or electronic threats to kill, do bodily injury, or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism which is a second-degree felony.

He was being held without bond as of Saturday at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Main Detention Center.

Atkins allegedly admitted he was behind the social media posts but claimed he was “joking”.

Police chief Araujo responded by saying: “Folks, this is not a joke. Nothing of that sort is a joke.

“In today’s climate, you really can’t say things like this.

“We have incident after incident, example after example of when these threats become real. And we take these very seriously.”

Atkins is believed to live just a few miles from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach.

He has voted Democratic since 2008, according to registration records.

The Secret Service are now set to determine whether they pursue additional, federal charges, West Palm Beach police said.

It comes as a second man has also been arrested over alleged threats to Trump’s life.

The FBI said 23-year-old Douglas Thrams from Goshen, Indiana made a series of TikTok videos urging attacks on the government.

In one, Thrams said Trump needed to be killed, according to an FBI agent in a court filing.

He has been charged with using interstate commerce to make threats.

The FBI and Secret Service have been on high alert for months after Trump was the victim of two separate assassination plots in 2024.

One saw the president shot in the ear by shooter Thomas Crooks at a pre-election rally in Pennsylvania.

A second attempt on his life was narrowly avoided when Ryan Routh was seen by a Secret Service agent hiding in the bushes with a rifle at the Trump International Golf Club in Florida.

Timeline of attempts on Trump's life

July 13 – Thomas Crooks shot Donald Trump in the ear after hiding on a roof overlooking the former President’s outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Crooks was killed by Secret Service snipers after he fired eight shots at Trump and killed one rallygoer and injured two others.

The bullet came less than a quarter of an inch from striking Trump’s head, Ronny Jackson, the former president’s physician, said.

September 15 – Ryan Routh was seen by a Secret Service agent hiding in the bushes with a rifle at the Trump International Golf Club in Florida.

Trump was playing a round of golf when the alleged would-be assassin managed to get within 400 yard of him.

Routh fled the scene in an SUV but was caught by cops and arrested.

October 12 – Riverside County Sheriffs believe Vem Miller tried to enter a Trump rally in Coachella, California, with the intention of killing the President.

They stopped him at the perimeter before Trump had even arrived and booked the 49-year-old on two gun charges.

Sheriff Chad Bianco said it would be up to federal officials to investigate Miller for the alleged assassination, but he believed his deputies had stopped a “third assassination attempt”.

The shopper attached a photo of the bargain featuring a tag which reads: “Price Drop. Better than Half Price.”

And shows the new price of the Pampers Baby Dry Nappy which appears to come in different sizes.

Thousands of shoppers have taken to the comment section of the Facebook post to share their excitement.

One person said: “Been stocking up the past week haha.”

While another tagged a loved one and said: “You’ve probably already seen it but – bargain.”

Followed by a third who questioned the offer: “They should be £4 anyway how come own brands can sell for around £4 but pampers more than double the price. Makes no sense.”

According to Pamper, this product is “tested and certified according to Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX”.

They also contain “0% EU perfume allergens” and guarantee a “100% Leak-Free Night”.

These nappies are currently selling online at Tesco for around £14.

Meanwhile, Boots sells them online for around £16.

As always, we recommend shopping around for the best deal.

Stock is always subject to availability and prices may vary depending on which store you visit.

How to bag a bargain

SUN Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to find a cut-price item and bag a bargain…

Sign up to loyalty schemes of the brands that you regularly shop with.

Big names regularly offer discounts or special lower prices for members, among other perks.

Sales are when you can pick up a real steal.

Retailers usually have periodic promotions that tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout and shop when these deals are on.

Sign up to mailing lists and you’ll also be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.

When buying online, always do a search for money off codes or vouchers that you can use vouchercodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk are just two sites that round up promotions by retailer.

Scanner apps are useful to have on your phone. Trolley.co.uk app has a scanner that you can use to compare prices on branded items when out shopping.

Bargain hunters can also use B&M’s scanner in the app to find discounts in-store before staff have marked them out.

And always check if you can get cashback before paying which in effect means you’ll get some of your money back or a discount on the item.

Furious Traitors fans complain to Ofcom over show final and slam treatment of star

TRAITORS fans are complaining to Ofcom after a fan-favourite player was banished before the winners were announced.

Last night, BBC One‘s hit reality show, The Traitors, ended in the most epic way when two Faithfuls won equal shares of £94,000.

Fans are keen to see Alexander pop up in other TV shows after his stint on The Traitors[/caption]

Jake and Leanne, both 28, went on to scoop the prize money after revealing they were both Faithful.

This came after an explosive episode that saw Traitor Charlotte booted out of the show before Alexander was banished, and Francesca was axed.

But it was Alexander’s banishing that really got fans riled up and angry.

Some fans were even quick to pen complaints to Ofcom – or so they claimed.

One viewer took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a screen grab of an Ofcom complaint form.

In the reason for their complaint, they wrote: “They’re being mean to Alexander.”

Someone replied “so real” to the tweet, clearly in agreement.

Another person agreed with complaining to Ofcom when they joked: “Alexander I am sorry these people can’t be trusted, i am contacting ofcom.”

A second person echoed: “I’m writing to OFCOM about the banishment of Alexander and Frankie so that the HEINOUS Leanne and Jake could win.”

FANS ‘COMPLAIN’ TO OFCOM

“How do i complain to ofcom on alexander’s behalf?” asked a third.

While a fourth swooned over him, writing: “The kindest, most unluckiest player we’ve seen on The Traitors, you did the country well Alexander!”

And a fifth sweetly penned: “Poor Alexander. Proof again that the good guys don’t always win. Gutted on his behalf.”

Alexander fast became a favourite on the hit BBC show, with many fans and viewers growing fond of the former British diplomat.

ALEXANDER’S GRATITUDE

Speaking to The Mirror after his Traitors stint, Alexander expressed his gratitude for all of the support and love he has received since appearing on the show.

How does The Traitors work and who hosts it?

The Traitors first launched in the UK in 2022, after the Dutch format was acquired by the BBC.

Claudia Winkleman is the show’s host, and has now hosted all three series to date.

How does it work?

It is a reality game show that involves 22 contestants, and some of them are chosen to be The Traitors.

The Traitors sees a group of contestants taking part in “the ultimate game of truth and deception”.

The group of contestants are competing for the chance to walk away with a huge cash prize.

While navigating through a series of challenges, the team are also tasked with figuring out who the Traitors are in the group (usually three contestants).

Each night, the Traitors gather to “eliminate” one of the Faithful, removing them from the competition

Meanwhile, the traitors can be “banished” if they’re successfully outed as a traitor by a faithful.

The winners of the show are either the Traitor who remains undetected or the Faithfuls if they successfully eliminate all the Traitors.

The prize sees the winner could get £120K.

“I’m so grateful for all the support I’ve had during this,” he said.

“It was quite an intense process because I got off the train and then came back into the game only two and a half weeks ago.

“It’s been made so much more enjoyable because of all the support out there and I’m enormously grateful for it, it really means a lot,” he said.

Elsewhere in his chat with the publication, Alexander revealed his relationship status amid increased interest in him from women online.

“I am still single… I’ll probably leave it there,” he told the outlet.

Jude Bellingham’s brother Jobe could be set to follow sibling’s path with big move to European giants

SUNDERLAND star Jobe Bellingham is being chased by two German giants.

Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen sent scouts to watch the midfielder, 19,  in the Championship promotion-chasers’ win at Derby on Tuesday.

Jobe has put in some amazing performances for Sunderland[/caption]

Dortmund helped catapult big brother Jude, 21, to superstar status with Real Madrid and England.

The Bundesliga club want to make it a family double with top spy Bastian Schulz at Pride Park to see Jobe in action.

But title-chasing Leverkusen are also serious rivals and may offer a different route to stardom with scout Lukas Schmitz at the Rams clash, too.

Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen are flying high at home and abroad and would offer Jobe the chance to step out of global star Jude’s footsteps — which could appeal to the Black Cats dynamo.

Jobe moved to the Stadium of Light in 2023 for £3million and has already been linked with a string of Premier League sides and could move in this month’s window.

But the £20m-rated goalscoring midfielder would prefer to see out Sunderland’s bid for promotion to the top flight and then move in the summer.

Meanwhile, the new England boss Thomas Tuchel is prepared to look outside the Prem for new talent.

The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich chief has already sent trusted No 2 Anthony Barry to see Jobe and his fellow Championship star James Trafford ahead of possible selection.

Barry went to watch Burnley keeper Trafford, 22, when he saved two late penalties against Sunderland last week.

And he is in contention for a senior Three Lions call-up — despite being relegated from the Prem with Clarets last year.

England Under-21 ace Jobe is also on the radar for the senior side despite having not played in the top flight.

Tuchel and Barry now plan to see as many rising stars as possible, even if that means going outside the main Premier League stage.

Bruno Fernandes calls on Man Utd team-mates to ‘show some balls’ and says he AGREES on Amorim’s ‘worst side ever’ blast

BRUNO FERNANDES backed Ruben Amorim’s blast at his stumbling stars and stressed: You’ve got to have the balls to play for Manchester United.

Boss Amorim caused a storm last week when he branded United’s fall-guys the worst side in the club’s history.

Ruben Amorim’s astonishing blast ‘inspired’ Fernandes[/caption]

He later admitted he went too far — yet Fernandes reckons he was bang on.

And the Red Devils skipper said: “The reality is to play here you have to have that pressure, you have to have the balls to play for this club — that is what it is.

“You have to feel that in every moment in every game it is a new chance to bring us back to the position we deserve.

“Unfortunately for us this season there have been too many ups and downs and every time we look like getting there, we get punched again and go down.

“What we have to do is every time we take a punch and go down, we must get up and try to punch back.”

Fernandes certainly did that with his last-gasp winner in a dramatic Europa League clash with Rangers on Thursday.

And he admitted Amorim’s outburst after last weekend’s 3-1 loss to Brighton inspired him to those final-second heroics.

Fernandes added: “I don’t want to hear my manager saying certain things about the team because I know he doesn’t feel it.

JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS

“But he made himself part of that and when the manager makes himself part of what he’s saying, no one can get angry or disappointed by it.

“When he says ‘the worst team in Manchester’, he speaks about the position we are in and when you look at where we are in the league we ARE in the worst position we’ve ever been.

“So you have to take it, that’s the reality unfortunately. We are in this position for a  long time and the club doesn’t belong there.

“But we have to accept that and understand we need to push ourselves to much bigger things and higher positions.”

Man Utd ratings: Bruno Fernandes captain fantastic in last-gasp win but Harry Maguire asleep in dreadful cameo

MANCHESTER UNITED all but sealed automatic qualification to the last 16 of the Europa League thanks to a last-gasp win over Rangers.

The Red Devils welcomed the Scottish giants to Old Trafford in the penultimate group match of their European campaign on Thursday night.

And they took a giant step towards a top-eight finish thanks to a 2-1 win at Old Trafford.

A calamitous own second-half goal from Gers stopper Jack Butland broke the deadlock.

Cyriel Dessers thought he’d rescued a point for the visitors in the 88th minute before Bruno Fernandes broke the hearts of the travelling Teddy Bears four minutes later.

SunSport’s Ken Lawrence was in attendance for the Battle of Britain and is on hand to rate and slate the performances of Ruben Amorim‘s side.

Altay Bayindir – 7

The Turk is a better keeper than No 1 Andre Onana, especially dealing with corners.

Took a sore one colliding with Toby Collyer showing exactly that.

Leny Yoro – 5

The £52m central defender was deployed on the right side of Rubin Amorim’s three-man rearguard.

Youngster was shaky at times but looked better when he had the ball.

Matthijs de Ligt – 4

Terrible early touch stranded Toby Collyer – Nicolas Raskin’s even worse touch let him off the hook.

Hooked at the break – no surprise there, although Amorim said afterwards that he “felt something”.

Lisandro Martinez – 5

Once known as The Butcher of Amsterdam but he’s long lost that scary presence.

Another one who doesn’t look happy in the new system.

Amad Diallo – 7

Looks a bit different these days since his tough time on loan at Rangers three years ago.

Not on wonder-boy form this time but still a threat.

Toby Collyer – 6

Made his first appearance on a European stage and the boy done good.

The 21 year old is a very decent emerging midfielder.

Christian Eriksen – 6

Turns 33 next month and his legs aren’t really up to playing in centre midfield.

He’s always been a creator anyway but he dug in.

Diogo Dalot – 5

Started out on his wrong foot as a left wing back.

Switched midway through the second half and looked far more comfortable.

Bruno Fernandes – 9

You wonder if he drives himself as mad as he must do his manager at times. But scored a fantastic winner.

Joshua Zirkzee – 4

Ruben. He’s NOT a centre-forward.

Whatever £36m bought, it wasn’t a natural striker and it’s unfair to be playing him up there on his own.

Alejandro Garnacho – 8

Busy and focused – didn’t look like any talk of being sold to Chelsea was bothering him.

On this sparkling evidence United would be mad to let him go anywhere.

SUBS
Maguire (for De Ligt 46) 3 Totally asleep for Rangers’ equaliser.

Malacia (for Yoro 56) 5 : Looking happier now injury worries over

Ugarte (for Collyer 73) 5 : Put in a solid short spell.

Mainoo (Eriksen 73) 5 : Added strength and mobility.

Hojlund (for Zirkzee 82) 5 : Ran about a bit – he’s good at that.

Tottenham star Bergvall reveals he has no regret over snubbing Barcelona despite his side’s shoddy start to season

LUCAS BERGVALL reckons his rapid rise at injury-ravaged Tottenham shows he was right to snub Barcelona.

The Swede, 18, looked set to join the LaLiga giants last January but opted for North London at the eleventh hour.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have struggled greatly this season[/caption]

And one key reason for the change of heart was a feeling that his chances of getting game-time were higher at Spurs.

Bergvall officially moved from Djurgarden in July for £8.5million — and is set to make his 27th appearance of the season in today’s Premier League clash with Leicester.

He has started five of Spurs’ last six games, netting his first goal for the club in a 1-0 win over Liverpool earlier this month, in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Bergvall said: “When I decided, I thought that Tottenham was the best club for me. It is a great club with good ambitions.

“I feel I am getting better every day. Training with all the boys and all the staff, I’m getting used to it.

“It’s not an easy change coming from the Swedish league.

“Everything is different. The running, the physical part… everything.”

There was a lot of excitement around Bergvall when he first arrived, particularly after rejecting a club as mighty as Barca.

JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS

His new team-mate Pape Matar Sarr added to the hype in August when asked which of the club’s summer signings had impressed him most.

The Senegal star — who is a doubt for today’s game — said: “Lucas. He is a really great player.

“I really love his style. He’s never under pressure when he’s on the ball. Technically, he’s fantastic. He’s bound to be one of the world’s top players. He’s got all the assets. With work, he’ll get to the very top.”

It was some appraisal from the 22-year-old and, in truth, it took a little bit of time for Bergvall to live up to it with some underwhelming early-season  displays as he got to grips with his new environment.

In November’s 3-2 defeat against Galatasaray, for example, he was guilty of holding on to the ball too long in the lead-up to the Turkish hosts’ second goal.

But he kept racking up the substitute appearances and making the odd start here and there, learning, improving, adapting, before really kicking on over the last six weeks.

Bergvall’s breakthrough moment came against Liverpool when he netted the only goal to give Spurs a precious lead going into the second leg at Anfield a week on Thursday.

Since then, he has been a regular name in Postecoglou’s starting XI.

Spurs’ injury crisis boosted his chances of playing but there have times when he has been picked ahead of the likes of England star James Maddison purely on form.

Bergvall is hoping to inspire his Spurs teammates back to winning ways[/caption]

Bergvall looked exhausted as he dropped to the turf at the end of Thursday’s crucial 3-2 win over Hoffenheim in the Europa League.

That victory means a top-eight spot and a path straight into the last 16, without having to worry about a pesky play-off next month, is within Spurs’ grasp, with Thursday’s final group game against Elfsborg to come.

But it was also a vital victory after a horror run of results which saw Spurs win just one of their last ten Premier League games, plummeting down the table and even sparking talk of the club finding themselves dragged into   relegation scrap.

And Bergvall feels it is vital to take the boost in morale from Hoffenheim into today’s game against the struggling Foxes and rediscover get that winning feeling in the league once more.

Three points would also ease the considerable pressure on Aussie manager Postecoglou, who is facing a testing time midway through his second season at Tottenham.

Bergvall added: “It was an important game in Europe, we needed to win to keep going.

“For the confidence too, we’ve had a tough time in the last few weeks, so it was really important.

“It’s difficult. We have 11 or 12 fit senior players, maybe more, it’s a tough period. We just have to keep going and fight.

“Especially now in tough times, when we have a lot of injuries, everyone needs to perform.

“We have to keep going. We don’t have any other option. He’s the coach and of course we work for him.”

Bruno Fernandes wants to bring back Fergie Time at Man Utd and calls on team-mates to show some ‘belief’

BRUNO FERNANDES wants to lead Manchester United into a new era of last-gasp Fergie Time heroics.

And if he does, it will answer the one question which had him stumped after his midweek Europa League late supershow: Whether Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim wears a watch.

The captain has also backed Ruben Amorim[/caption]

In two triumphant decades under Sir Alex Ferguson, even those with only a passing interest in football had no doubt.

Barely a week went by without football’s greatest gaffer very publicly checking his wrist to make a point about stoppage time — and so often it ended with a late goal for United.

There has been precious little of it in the decade since Ferguson’s final farewell — but now playmaker  Fernandes has made it his mission to bring them back under the latest man to fill Fergie’s boots.

There have already been murmurings of it in just 16 games with the Portuguese manager in charge — five late-show strikes, in fact.

And after his 92nd-minute goal to beat Scottish giants Rangers made him the latest name on the list — in every respect — Fernandes knew the subject of United’s stoppage-time history was coming.

As a keen student of the club’s past, yes, of course he was well aware of Fergie Time.

But no, there hadn’t been enough of it under Amorim for him to know if his boss even had a watch, never mind had cause to check it in front of any watching official.

Yet as he vowed to turn grand finales from exception to the norm once more, he will not be in the dark for much longer.

CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS

It might not be good for the nerves, but that is part of the deal for any club with pretensions of greatness. And United certainly have plenty of them.

Fernandes, 30, admitted: “I think that, ever since I have been at this club, that has always been a part of things.

Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s sides were famous for late comebacks and winning goals[/caption] Bruno Fernandes's 2024-25 Manchester United stats: games, chances created, passes, goals, assists, tackles, and fouls.

“We always talk about Sir Alex’s time, you know, when he looks at his watch and United will grab a goal for sure.

“I don’t know if the manager has a watch to look at, but obviously we need to have that belief and even more like this — because we knew we still had two or three minutes to play.

“So you have to try and go forward to get one because you  can only win games where you’re at this club — nothing less is expected of you.

“Of course,  we know we are not in the position this club was many, many years ago and have a long, long way to go as a team — but we are on our path.

“We know it won’t be as easy as they made it look, because obviously they had great players in the past at this club and a great manager who led the club to many trophies.

“But we have to make our own way. And as tough as it is, and as difficult as it can be, we are going to fight for this club to try and make it back.”

In fairness, United have come up with the goods in the dying embers of the game more than once this season.

Admittedly, not quite so dramatically as against  Rangers —  but late enough nonetheless at Manchester City and Liverpool and at home to struggling Southampton in the Premier League.

All thanks to Ivory Coast winger Amad Diallo,  as well.

Oh, plus a late winner over Czech side Viktoria Plzen from Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund a fortnight before Christmas.

It’s the games in between that have been the problem, powder-puff defeats to the likes of Wolves, Bournemouth and Brighton.

The last of them finally pushed Amorim over the edge, as the affable gaffer gave way to a steam-coming-out-of-his-ears attack dog.

So furious that he smashed a television on the dressing-room wall and slammed his flops as the worst United team in history.

When the red mist cleared, Amorim relented and admitted maybe he should have taken a breath before sounding off.

Yet far from taking the huff, Fernandes was right behind his fellow countryman.

He added: “I am pretty sure it was in a moment of rage.

“I am Portuguese and I know that pretty quickly the blood comes up, so it’s just in that moment.

“I was here with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, one of the calmest people I’ve met, and he had this sometimes, too.

“As a manager you depend on the results and sometimes you need to have these kinds of words to your players.

“It wasn’t anything out of context — or something we didn’t deserve in  the moment.”

The challenge now is to make sure there is no cause for them again…
