Former Chelsea flop forced to explain himself after he is spotted sitting with Man City fans for defeat at Etihad

CHELSEA flop Danny Drinkwater has sparked a row after sitting with Manchester City fans and appearing to brand his old club a circus.

The ex-England midfielder saw City dent the Blues’ top-four hopes with a 3-1 comeback win at the Etihad.

Drinkwater offered this controversial explanation[/caption]

Drinkwater is far from a favourite with Chelsea supporters following a dismal spell at Stamford Bridge from 2017-2022 after his £35million switch from Leicester.

And fans who reckoned he was a waste of money were seething again after spotting him with home supporters in Saturday’s crucial Premier League clash.

Drinkwater justified his actions on social media afterwards  – but his explanation stirred up more discontent.

The now-retired star, 34, posted on Instagram: “For the @Chelsea fans asking why I’m in the City end… I asked the club for tickets!?! I didn’t receive any.”

Drinkwater then spelt out his feelings by adding two emojis – a circus and an eye roll.

That didn’t go down well with fans who recalled his anonymous, injury-hit six years at Stamford Bridge.

But other supporters slammed Drinkwater’s treatment by Chelsea at the weekend as proof of the “disrespectful” way former players are treated under the club’s majority owners Clearlake.

The fortunes of the three-cap ace hurtled downwards on and off the pitch once he immediately swapped 2015-16 Prem title glory with Leicester for Stamford Bridge.

And one fan said of his ‘snub’ at the Etihad: “Why would they give him tickets lol.”

Another posted: “He took enough from the club. They gave him a nice retirement package. ”
A third wrote: “

I wouldn’t give him any tickets either. He can f*****g buy them with the wage he received.”

A fourth added: “If he really wanted to support the club then I don’t see any harm in him buying a ticket btw.” A fifth chuckled: “Did him dirty.. Didn’t do anything notable for the club.”

But despite Drinkwater being such a costly misfit at Chelsea, the Etihad episode left some supporters pointing their finger at the current Stamford Bridge reign of Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake.

One fan said: “Clearlake disrespecting former Chelsea players, get them out.”

Another demanded the same: “Get the owners out of here” – followed by two clown emojis.

Drinkwater has described his humbling descent while at Chelsea as “the darkest I’d felt. It was like I was drowning and forgotten how to swim”. And his life away from the pitch has also been beset by an array of difficulties in recent years.

He was banned from the wheel for 20 months in 2019 after admitting drink-driving following a crash in his Range Rover that injured his two passengers.

And in September that year, Drinkwater was attacked outside a Manchester nightclub, suffering head injuries and ankle ligament damage.

Then in November 2023, just a week after quitting playing, the Sun revealed in November 2023 how he lost £782,000 from a failed restaurant business.

Drinkwater has since been working as a property developer.

Moment hero cop tackles knife-wielding attacker trying to stab customer in petrol station

THIS is the moment a hero cop single-handedly tackled a knife-wielding suspect who was trying to stab another man.

PC Morgan Younger managed to wrestle the attacker to the ground, disarm and restrain him while calling for back-up at a petrol station in Lewisham, south-east London, on Saturday.

The officer had stopped at the petrol station at around 3pm to quickly buy a drink.

He saw a man grab the victim around the throat and try to stab him with a large knife.

PC Younger, who is attached to South East Command Unit and has five years’ service, managed to bring him to the floor and disarm him without any help.

He restrained him single-handedly, kept him under control for five minutes before other officers arrived.

He also managed to arrest the man for attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

The alleged knifeman, in his 60s, remains in custody.

He has been further arrested for handling stolen goods and being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs after his home was searched.

The victim, aged in his 40s, was not injured.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Jon Savell said: “This is outstanding work from an officer who was on patrol alone, saw a very violent crime in progress and, without hesitation, raced in to assist.

“I cannot overstate how proud we are in the Met today of his quick thinking and bravery.

“He was calm and professional and everything we want our police officers to be.

“I have no doubt without his intervention, the victim would have been seriously injured.”

New Gladiator Cyclone reveals why she’s thrilled to ‘terrify’ viewers after debut on BBC One show

SHE terrified contenders and viewers alike with her fighting talk on Gladiators – and newcomer Cyclone considers it job done.

The star — real name Lystus Ebosele — is thrilled she had contestants quaking with her TV debut on the BBC One reboot on Saturday, and says she is “both fierce and unapologetic”.

Woman in white cutout dress.
Cyclone insisted her onscreen persona is about embracing her power and overturning gender stereotypes

The Irish powerlifter told The Sun: “I want to be so scary that even when I’m not in the ring, contenders think, ‘I hope I get anyone but her’.

“The first contender that I saw in the arena when I joined the show . . . I wasn’t meant to run into her, but she saw me coming out of the bathroom and her reaction was pure fear.

“I was thrilled, I thought, ‘Perfect, that’s just the vibe I’m going for!’ ”

Cyclone insisted her onscreen persona is not about playing the “bad guy” but rather embracing her power and overturning gender stereotypes.

With her 5ft 11in frame and 15-inch biceps, Lystus said: “I stand out because I am unapologetically strong.

“People might see me as villainous, but that’s just because Cyclone is powerful and doesn’t back down. If a woman is confident, assertive and speaks plainly, people call it cocky, but if a man did the same, they’d call it confidence. Honestly, I think it’s a stigma that we need to be breaking.

“It’s all about showing that a woman can be both fierce and unapologetic, to take hold of their dark feminine energy and power.

‘It’s cool to be strong’

“Cyclone is an extension of my own character as an athlete and a woman in that way — because I’m competitive. I like a challenge and love to win.”

It means Cyclone will stop at nothing to bring down her opponents during the Gladiators challenges filmed at the Utilita Arena Sheffield.

And she insists that this is to show young girls that they can be unapologetically strong.

Cyclone added: “With any competitive scenario, it’s game face on and I just want to win, essentially.

“I can’t help that I’m hyper-athletic, and will just go for what I want and be forthright. Ultimately, that should show girls at home that it’s cool to be strong and not be sorry about it.

“That wanting to win is OK, and that they are allowed to take up space and be seen.

“Women support each other on this show, and that goes further than just hugging and congratulating each other after the games. It’s making space for other women to be strong and intimidating and powerful.

“So if you’re up against me, and I’m there hitting you in the face, that is me supporting you — because I want to push contenders to be as strong as they can be, and doing those hard things makes you strong.”

It is no coincidence then that Cyclone’s on-screen look is as fierce as her presence.

She explained: “I knew from the start that I wanted to be intimidating, and you can portray yourself with a very strong image as a woman, through your hair and make-up.

“A shout out to my make-up artist, because I don’t know how she gets it all to stay put, and there are no problems with the long hair, either, because I’m so tall that nobody is coming near my head.”

Cyclone was named the 84kg+ Powerlifting Junior World Champion in 2023 and has a huge following on YouTube, where she teaches lifting techniques.

But she considers herself an all-rounder, with a career also spanning athletics and gymnastics.

Growing up, she was in awe of the top sports stars and dreamed of making it on to TV.

Cyclone revealed: “I grew up watching shows like Ninja Warrior, those Gladiators-style shows that were more my time.

‘I have so many skills’

“I loved watching them with my brother. We’d sit there together being like, ‘I could do that!’

“I never thought it would be something I’d have the opportunity to do, but I knew if it came up, I’d go for it.

“Over the last few years with the powerlifting — and having a gym- nastics and sprinting background — I have so many skills now, and it did get to a point where it felt like, ‘What do I do with them?’

“Then the Gladiators team called, and I thought, ‘This is perfect because now I can showcase everything I do.’

“I definitely thought that I’d be more likely to be a competitor on one of these shows and not the person that you were trying to defeat, but it’s definitely much cooler being on this side of it.”

Donald Trump and Keir Starmer finally speak on the phone for first time in 45 minute chat and ‘agree to meet soon’

SIR Keir Starmer has finally spoke on the phone to Donald Trump after the President showered him with praise.

The PM and the Donald spoke for 45 minutes, covering trade, the economy and Britain’s plan to spark a bonfire of growth-impeding red tape.

In his first call with a European leader, Trump discussed his love for the Royal Family and happiness at the return of British-Israeli hostage Emily Damari from Gaza’s terror dungeons.

The PM applauded the top deal broker for securing a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas – an issue his predecessor Joe Biden failed at for months.

The President also offered condolences to Sir Keir following the death of his brother.

A Downing Street spokesperson said: “The Prime Minister thanked President Trump for his kind words and congratulated him on his inauguration.

“The two leaders stressed the importance of the close and warm ties between the UK and the US.

“They agreed to meet soon and looked forward to further discussions then.”

It came as before the call Trump gave the PM a surprise boost declaring he has done a “very good job thus far”.

The President confessed to having a “very good relationship” with Sir Keir, despite calls from his top ally and tech billionaire Elon Musk for the PM to resign.

On board the Presidential jet Air Force One, Trump said: “I get along with him well. I like him a lot.

“He’s liberal, which is a bit different from me, but I think he’s a very good person and I think he’s done a very good job thus far.

“He’s represented his country in terms of philosophy.

“I may not agree with his philosophy, but I have a very good relationship with him.”

Asked on board the jet where he will make his first international trip of his second term, Trump responded: “It could be Saudi Arabia, it could be the UK. Traditionally it could be UK.

“Last time I went to Saudi Arabia because they agreed to buy $450 billion of American United States merchandise.”

Downing Street has gone to great lengths to try and woo the new President, as well as prevent a bombardment of tariffs on British goods.

Last week Foreign Secretary David Lammy said Sir Keir will travel to Washington to meet his counterpart “within the next few weeks”.

Lady Gaga in talks to perform at Grammy’s as desperate bosses try to get her to sign up for duet with another superstar

LADY GAGA’s return to the big screen in Joker: Folie A Deux may have failed to impress, but she is having the last laugh.

I can reveal the music icon is in advanced talks to perform at the Grammy Awards this Sunday.

Sources tell me show bosses are desperate to get Gaga and Bruno Mars to sign on the dotted line to belt out their mega-hit Die With A Smile.

Their collaboration is already up for two awards on the night including Song Of The Year, having been streamed a whopping 1.6billion times on Spotify since it came out in August.

If successful, it will be the first time Gaga has performed on the Grammy stage in three years.

And it would be the perfect prelude to her seventh studio album, which is expected to be formally announced this afternoon.

A source said: “Grammys night is going to be massive, and everyone is hoping it can truly kick-start a huge year for Gaga.

“She and her team are deep in talks to get her to perform at the ceremony for the first time in years.

“She’s up for two awards so hopefully she won’t go home empty handed.

“Her seventh album is set to be announced this week so it would be the perfect way to kick-start the year.”

Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, has long been associated with the hit ceremony — famously arriving on the red carpet in a huge plastic egg ahead of the 2011 ceremony.

She later “hatched” on stage to belt out her hit single Born This Way.

The Bad Romance singer made her Grammys debut in 2010 when she performed alongside Sir Elton John.

She also performed at the event in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022 — and has won 13 gongs.

The superstar released the lead single, Disease, from her upcoming seventh album last November, which was her first solo UK Top Ten hit in four years.

And if Grammy bosses do manage to clinch a performance from her, she will be in good company.

Brits Charli XCX and Raye, as well as Shakira, Chappell Roan, Benson Boone, Billie Eilish, Teddy Swims and Sabrina Carpenter will also be taking to the stage.

Charli is up for eight gongs including Album of the Year for Brat and Record of the Year for single 360, while Raye is nominated for three awards including Best New Artist.

The show will take place at the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles.

After a tough few weeks for the city, this sounds like the ultimate celebration.

…AND HE’S X-RATED

IF you were expecting Bruno Mars’ next single to be a soppy, romantic tune, you will be shocked to hear what he’s just released.

The US star dropped a track on Friday called Fat, Juicy & Wet with US rapper Sexxy Red, and the lyrics were enough to make me blush.

Bruno Mars’ new single Fat, Juicy & Wet with US rapper Sexxy Red is very explicit[/caption]

In fact, it’s so X-rated there isn’t a single line I feel I can reproduce here in a family newspaper, as all he seems to want to sing about is women’s genitalia.

Thankfully, there are more wholesome releases to get your ears around this week.

Fresh from his Brit Award nomination, DJO – who you might know better as Joe Keery from Stranger Things – has dropped his song Basic Being Basic from album The Crux, which will be out on April 4 and followed by a UK tour in June.

Other new tunes include Sports Car by Tate McRae, Tears On My Piano by Joel Corry and All Over You by Mabel.

The week in Bizness

WEDNESDAY: Renee Zellweger will attend the UK premiere of the fourth film in the Bridget Jones series, Mad About The Boy, alongside her co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall.

THURSDAY: Stevie Wonder, Green Day, No Doubt, Pink and Billie Eilish are among the huge names performing at the FireAid benefit concert in Los Angeles, which is also being live-streamed.

FRIDAY: The Weeknd will finally release his first album in three years, Hurry Up Tomorrow, after previously delaying it by a fortnight because of the California wildfires.

SUNDAY: The 67th Grammy Awards take place in the States, with Beyonce set to win big again as she leads with 11 nominations.

ZOE BALL will be relishing her lie-in tomorrow as Scott Mills takes over her Radio 2 breakfast show – and she is already celebrating with some retail therapy.

She was spotted out yesterday in a green jumper with a coffee following her departure from her show last month.

Zoe hasn’t been heard on the airwaves since, but promised at the time that she wasn’t bidding farewell to the station entirely.

Her next gigs are yet to be revealed, but I can’t blame her for wanting a bit of a rest after six years of early starts.

S CLUB HIT GETS PUNK MAKEOVER

PUNK ROCK FACTORY are making pop hard and heavy, by covering S Club 7’s No1 Bring It All Back.

The Welsh group, who are heading out on tour next month, dropped their version of the tune as they prepare to release new album All Hands On Deck on Valentine’s Day.

And it has won the approval of S Club star JO O’Meara.

She said: “It’s always an honour when one of our songs is worthy of a cover version.

“It’s so interesting to hear it done this way.

“I am defo gonna be rocking out to this one.”

FLETCHERS ALL A-BUZZ OVER SON

HE is a hugely successful pop chart-topper while she is a hit podcaster, author and I’m A Celebrity winner.

And now the eldest son of Tom and Giovanna Fletcher is following in their showbiz footsteps by becoming a West End star aged just ten.

Buzz made his stage debut in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production of Starlight Express in London at the weekend after landing a regular role in the hit show.

Proud mum Giovanna wrote on Instagram: “We’ve been keeping this quiet for a while but tonight was race night and our brilliant Buzz had his debut as Control in the incredible Starlight Express.

“I can’t even begin to describe the overwhelming pride (and nerves!) watching him run out on to that stage to deliver those opening lines and then give the most amazing performance.

“It was total magic and a memory for us all that will never be forgotten.”

McFly star Tom also gushed about his son on social media and it sounds like there will be more acting and singing roles to come.

Buzz has also landed a role in BBC kids’ show Andy And The Band, which is due to hit screens later this year.

UNDERCOVER JASON MAKES HIS MERC

IT has been a decade since pop star Jason Orange quit Take That and turned his back on the showbiz spotlight.

But the elusive star has now surfaced in Hampstead, North London, where he was spotted doing some shopping last week.

My exclusive photos show the former singer picking up beauty products from a Planet Organic shop in a large hoodie, cardigan, shades and mittens, as he tried in vain to fly under the radar.

While he looked unassuming in the wacky outfit, his flashy vintage Mercedes would have definitely caught the attention of passers-by.

Jason is said to be worth £36million, so I can’t blame him for wanting to live the quiet life and enjoy his hard-earned cash.

By the looks of it, his life of leisure is treating him very well indeed.

Recalling the moment he was offered the job by a BBC boss, he told Bizarre: “I was shocked.

“I mean, deep down, I knew at one point I might be asked to do something like that.”

Trevor, who also fronts the new BBC Sounds series Eras: Bob Marley, said: “Our conversation was hilarious. Before I even answered, she was saying, ‘I know what you’re like . . .

“But I slept on it and knew I wanted to do it.

“It’s like getting your England cap at this stage in my career. “

SHE looked all partied out as she left an A-list shindig in Paris last week – so it’s perhaps no surprise Kate Moss had to pop into a chemist before waving goodbye to Paris Fashion Week.

Dancing On Ice fans furious as latest star gets the axe in cruel twist despite skater pulling out

DANCING On Ice fans were not happy this evening as another star got the boot.

Once again there was no skate-off and in a huge shock, Ferne McCann was sent packing after receiving the lowest scores during Movie Week.

Former Towie star Ferne broke down as she heard the news and said she was “gutted” after being booted off by viewers and the judges.

But she added: “It has been brilliant, so fantastic.”

Fans rushed to comment on the surprising result, with one person commenting:

“Ferne going is OUTRAGEOUS.”

A second commented: “The no skate off makes it so abrupt & just feels a bit disrespectful to the contestants. It’s basically you’re out come here and have an immediate interview & you’re surprised they’re upset?!”

While a third added: “What the actual f**k.. Ferne deserved to be in that final. This is why this show is s**t because all the good ones go home..”

The exit came after comedian Josh Jones was forced him to withdraw from the competition due to a “twisted ankle”.

The 32-year-old did return to the show, but not the competition, telling presenters Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern: “So we were skating, and I went over on my ankle (during rehearsals)… and I kind of twisted my ankle.

“And I’ve got a cold sore as well, so I’ve got a lump on my leg and my ankle.”

The Only Way Is Essex star Dan Edgar went with a James Bond theme on Sunday’s show, scoring 31 points as he opened the competition, but was quickly surpassed.

Coronation Street star Sam Aston earned 32.5 points, and was told by Ashley Banjo after initially being “hesitant”, he did some “serious skating” to Robbie Williams and Olly Murs‘s rendition of I Wanna Be Like You, from Disney movie The Jungle Book.

Michaela Strachan performed as Maria from The Sound Of Music, with a Connie Fisher version of the song, and earned the joint highest score so far with Aston.

My ex’s kids had the WORST names – people are convinced I’m joking when I tell them because they’re so ‘cruel’

PICKING the perfect names for your little ones is easier said than done sometimes, especailly if you want something more unique for them.

But this parent might’ve taken it a step too far as people have slammed his kid’s names as “a joke”.

Some were convinced the woman was lying about the names because of how unique they are[/caption]

People were shocked by the unique spellings of the names[/caption]

This comes after a woman took to Facebook to share the names, leaving people stunned.

First up was Nazareth’Orias, followed by Aadysi’Lucia and Lazareth’Buchannon and the youngest, Aaurroah’Ryeit.

“My ex’s kids names […] they all had two middle names that had apostrophes as well, but it’s been like four years so I don’t remember them (he never saw them so I never met them),” she wrote in the popular Facebook group where she shared the unusual names.

Naturally, people were shocked by the names, and many were left convinced the woman was lying because of how unique they are.

“Please tell me this is a joke,” one person commented.

And another wrote: “How on earth could you bring yourself to date a guy who would name his kids shit like this?”

And a third shunned the dad’s use of apostrophes in the names, they said: “I also sent through a phase where I thought apostrophes made words cooler. Of course, I was twelve.”

“Ok, these might actually be the worst I’ve seen. Probably good the middle names weren’t included, I don’t know if I could have handled it,” another jabbed.

“Aauroagh hurts me physically to read,” someone else chimed in.

Meanwhile, someone else attempted to “fix” the names to make them easier to read.

“Allow me to attempt to fix these names: Nazareth Orion, Addison Lucia, Lazareth Cannon, Aurora Riot,” they commented on the post.

Elsewhere another parent was slammed for the unique moniker she gave her son.

But one woman has been met with a barrage of negative comments after sharing the unique baby name she has chosen for her unborn son.

Not only did trolls slam the moniker and say that it’s ‘bad regardless but just cruel for a boy’, but even teachers begged her to choose something different.

Many claimed that the young boy would be bullied for the name and called the pregnant woman ‘selfish’ for her choice.

The brunette beauty, who is expecting a baby boy due in February 2025 wrote: “I feel like some would say my son’s name belongs here.

“We’re naming him Rayleigh.”

Not only did many warn the mum-to-be about the possibility that her son could get bullied for the moniker, but others claimed that it was too feminine for a boy’s name too.

One person said: “Been a middle school teacher for 20 years and your kid is going to get made fun of. Badly. And it will be your doing.

“If you need to feel original, change your own name, don’t do that to a kid.”

Another added: “As a middle school teacher, I beg you to pick something else!”

Not only this, but another user questioned: “This is a joke, right??

“Please consider his future. When he is 35 and at a job interview, this name will not be cute or creative, it will be embarrassing and honestly people might not take him seriously…..Do better for your son.”
