I’m a flight attendant – doing these three things can help you avoid back pain during flights

A FLIGHT attendant has revealed three ways passengers can avoid back pain during flights.

A holidaymaker posted their concerns about flying with a back injury on Reddit.

The user, known as DeplorableAntipope, wrote: “I injured my back in a car accident a few months back and I’m still working through everything with my doctors.

“I have a 15-hour international flight for work this week that I’m absolutely dreading it.”

The passenger explained how sitting down for a long period of time aggravated the pain in their back.

Further in the post, DeplorableAntipope added: “I’m trying to plan ahead of time what I can do during the flight to not be miserable.”

Other Reddit users rushed to offer their advice, including several flight attendants who were on hand to help.

Here are their recommendations…

1. Carry a flexible water bottle

In their original post, DeplorableAntipope suggested boarding with a small flat thermos, and asking a member of cabin crew to refill the bottle with either cold or hot water as needed.

One flight attendant replied : “Absolutely. It’s not a problem just ask and I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to help you however you need it. “

Another flight attendant recommended taking adhesive heat patches on board too.

They said: “Those might work better than a hot water bottle especially if you’re trying to balance it on your back on a long flight.”

2. Make sure to periodically stretch

The user also wanted to know if they’d be able to find a spot to stretch out their achey back during the flight.

A flight attendant said this would be fine, but had some more advice: “Just avoid during setup because it can get really crowded.”

They explained how stretching might be dangerous during this time because of all the setup involved to get the plane off the ground.

3. Keep your lower back supported

Throughout their 15-hour flight, other users recommended making sure the lower back was supported.

On board the flight, the apprehensive passenger brought two large bags of sweets to share with the cabin crew.

They said: “They acted like I had told them they won the lottery when I gave them the candy.”

The cabin crew thanked the passenger for the sweets until they disembarked the plane.

Meanwhile, this flight attendant revealed a very common passenger mistake that often leaves them frustrated.

And this woman was shamed for “insanely gross” behaviour with her drink on a plane.

What kind of passenger does The Sun's flight attendant hate?

OVER the years, the Sun's resident flight attendant has shared several words of wisdom, including the type of passenger they hate.

“Arguably the worst are the couples getting overly-excited on their way to their summer holidays.

“The summer months are always much worse for this, with young couples heading off to their romantic sunny getaways.

“They get on the plane, have a few drinks and get a little amorous, and it really makes the people around them feel uncomfortable.

“Complaints about people being a little ‘too affectionate’ in the plane cabin aren’t uncommon, but around this time of year, they really start to soar.”

A former flight attendant reveals the stupidest questions I’ve been asked by passengers.

Another has revealed the best seats to book on the plane – and the one to avoid.
