Beloved burger chain to shut all locations ‘despite best efforts’ after 13 years

A BELOVED burger chain has shut all its locations after 13 years despite the owner’s “best efforts”.

Cult burger restaurant Almost Famous has confirmed it has closed its four sites in a heart-breaking statement.

Almost Famous was known for its dirty burgers, wings and loaded fries[/caption]

Owner Beau Myers said the chain’s two sites in Manchester, plus branches in Liverpool and Leeds, will be closed.

He said: “It is with broken hearts and tearful eyes that we must announce the closure of Almost Famous.

“The current economic climate has proven too challenging for us to overcome.

“The lingering debt from Covid, rising costs across every aspect of the business, and a tightening in people’s ability to spend on dining out have created an impossible situation.

“Despite our best efforts, we are no longer able to continue.

“Ironically, while our venues remain busy and our reviews are glowing, the financial pressures stacked against us have made it impossible to sustain the business – making this scenario even more heart-breaking.”

Almost Famous was founded 13 years ago at the height of the dirty burger craze and has since served more than a million burgers to guests.

It was known for its towering burgers, wings and loaded fries.

The owner added: “It has been an unforgettable journey, and we hope we’ve been able to create lasting memories, happy moments, and plenty of smiles along the way.

“All we ever wanted was to make incredible burgers and provide good times. That mission drove us every single day.”

The hospitality industry has faced challenges in recent years and 2025 has already seen a number of closures.

Crepeaffaire has closed its sites in both Chester and Westfield shopping centre in London.

The future of three Itsu sites is also still up in the air after one of its franchise partners was saved from collapse.

Heart with Smart (HWS) was bought by investment firm Directional Capital this month in a pre-pack administration deal.

The hospitality franchise was best known as the operator of Pizza Hut‘s dine-in restaurants in the UK, with the firm taking over around 150 of the sites as part of the deal.

TROUBLE FOR UK RESTAURANTS

It comes as a number of popular restaurant chains have closed due to diners having less money to spend on meals out

Britain’s “rudest restaurant”  Karen’s Diner closed all its UK sites last year after its parent company, Viral Ventures UK, reportedly racked up more than £400,000 worth of debt.

TGI Fridays closed 35 sites after collapsing into administration last September.

More than 1,000 staff lost their jobs after a deal to save the chain excluded the struggling sites.

Private equity firms Breal Capital and Calveton UK stepped in to save the chain’s other restaurants, which now operate under the parent company Liberty Bar and Restaurant Group.

What is happening to the hospitality industry?

By Laura McGuire, consumer reporter

MANY Food and drink chains have been struggling in recently as the cost of living has led to fewer people spending on eating out.

Businesses had been struggling to bounce back after the pandemic, only to be hit with soaring energy bills and inflation.

Multiple chains have been affected, resulting in big-name brands like Wetherspoons and Frankie & Benny’s closing branches.

Some chains have not survived, Byron Burger fell into administration last year, with owners saying it would result in the loss of over 200 jobs.

Pizza giant, Papa Johns is shutting down 43 of its stores soon.

Tasty, the owner of Wildwood, said it will shut sites as part of major restructuring plans.

I was accused of marrying a teenage boy… now I’m begging strangers on the internet to donate to my £9k IVF babies

A COUPLE who went viral for their wedding photos are now asking the public for help buying baby essentials.

The pair announced they are expecting triplets after receiving backlash over their nuptials.

Shortly after tying the knot, the couple embarked on an IVF journey abroad and are now expecting triplets[/caption]

Lauren Evens, 31, and her wife Hannah, 29, were mistaken for mother and son when they first shared images of their engagement.

Online users branded Lauren a “paedophile” due to her partner’s youthful appearance.

Despite being just three years younger than her wife, specialist engineer Hannah is often assumed to be a 10-year-old boy.

Shortly after tying the knot in July 2024, the couple announced they were embarking on an IVF journey in Cyprus.

Lauren, who is mum to two children aged 10 and nine, is now expecting triplet girls after the treatment.

She explained that she opted to carry the babies, which were created from Hannah’s eggs, so they could be “biologically related.”

The 29-year-old underwent a stimulation cycle to help her body produce the maximum number of eggs.

Meanwhile, Lauren underwent womb stimulation to prepare her body for pregnancy.

“We chose a Swedish sperm donor because he was the closest match to our skin tones and looks,” Hannah said.

After Lauren recently became redundant, the couple decided to raise money for their future family, reports the Daily Mail.

They have already forked out £9,000 for their IVF treatment and are now looking for the public’s help in raising day-to-day spending money.

The couple explained that they are hoping to raise £3,000 to purchase baby essentials.

They also hope to put some of this money towards flights and accommodation for when their babies arrive in June.

Due to Lauren’s high-risk pregnancy, she is scheduled to undergo a C-section at 34 weeks.

The expectant mum explained her family’s financial bind since she lost her job.

IVF statistics

Figures cited by the NHS, show the following results for mums who underwent IVF and went on to have a live birth:

  • 32.2% for women under 35
  • 27.7% for women aged 35-37
  • 20.8% for women aged 38-39
  • 13.6% for women aged 40-42
  • 5% for women aged 43-44
  • 1.9% for women aged over 44

“We’ve had to move back to Hannah’s parents – until we can save for a deposit or for private rent. We’ll need four to five bedrooms,” she said.

As well as their financial struggles, the couple are still facing judgement when they go out together in public.

“We went to Boots last week. The lady asked if I had a Boots card and said it would be worth getting one,” Lauren recalled.

“I said she [Hannah] has one. She said: ‘But your little boy can’t be with you all the time’.

“‘I said: ‘It’s my wife.'”

I’m trolled for charging my daughter £120 in rent when I don’t need the cash – but it’s entitled to expect a free ride

A MUM has sparked a heated debate after revealing she charges her daughter £120 a month in rent – despite not needing the money.

Roxy, who goes by the username ‘roxreviews’ on TikTok, took to social media to ask other parents how much they charge their children, after noticing what she describes as a growing sense of “entitlement” in some people.

Roxy shared a video her thoughts on charging her children rent
tiktok.com/@roxreviews

Speaking to her followers about her current situation, the mum explained: “Now, unless you’re studying or saving for a house, there should be no adults living at home with their parents without contributing in some way.

“Be it cleaning, giving money for food or heat – you know, it’s not free.

“The cost of living is wild these days.”

Roxy went on to share examples of “grown men” earning more than their parents, “driving fancy cars” while refusing to contribute – though she admitted that, as a mother, she sometimes feels guilty for asking.

She continued: “If you respect your parents, you would not expect them to provide for your grown-up adult self.

“And for those who say, ‘I didn’t ask to be born’ – neither did your parents.

“When your kid is 40 years old and still sponging off you, then that’s on you.

“It’s just a bit of respect, to be honest.”

Roxy explained that her daughter will be saving money while paying rent, and she plans to help her save for her own place.

She concluded the video by saying: “If you’re working to save for a house or you’re studying and your parents can afford to support you, then yeah, fair enough – don’t pay anything.

“But if you’re just working and living at home, sponging off your parents, then you’ve got no respect, and it’s not on.”

The video quickly gained attention, with many users rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts.

One person wrote: “Wow. I never had to pay a penny to my parents while I still lived at home.”

Another added: “I personally couldn’t charge my kids.”

Roxy replied: “What if they were 30-year-olds sponging off you?”

The TikTok user responded: “I don’t think I could. I understand why people do, and no disrespect to them, but I’m probably too soft.”

Task Delegation: Assign age-appropriate chores to children to foster responsibility and reduce your workload.

A third commenter said: “You’re their parents. Your job is to provide them with a safe space, no matter their age.”

Roxy replied: “Maybe so, but they should contribute towards their costs out of respect.”

Meanwhile, someone else shared: “I charge my son, who is 18, £200 a month – not to save for him, but to teach him that life comes with responsibilities. He’ll have to pay a lot more when he gets his own place.”

Love Island misery as mass cull hits the villa – leaving horrified All Stars in shock

THE LOVE Island villa will tonight be rocked by a mass dumping after viewers chose their favourite boys and girls.

The All Stars cast will be slashed by the biggest dump of the series yet – with Maya Jama arriving to swing the axe.

Things took a turn for the worse on last night’s Love Island as a row erupted[/caption]

A source said: “The viewers have set the ball rolling with a vote for their favourite girl and favourite boy at the end of Sunday night’s show.

“Then there will be tough decisions for the Islanders to make, with some of them playing a part in deciding who exactly will leave the villa and who will get to stay.

“It comes at a tense time in the villa after Luca and Scott’s row, with loyalties all over the place.

“Only the girls are really tight right now, with the boys especially ripped apart and Kaz and Catherine divided over Montel.

“It’s not clear at this stage who will battle to save who and we could end up saying goodbye to some unlikely Islanders.”

It comes after the explosive row rocked the villa and the overall mood hit a series low.

Scott Thomas, 36, was seen squaring up to his villa friend Luca Bish, 25, as a fiery row erupted during a game of truth or dare.

Scott said he had a truth he wanted to ask Grace Jackson – who is coupled up with Luca – but said he “didn’t want to say” it aloud.

Luca instantly became annoyed and said: “Say it. If you want to go there, go there?”

Scott insisted: “Bro, I’m being respectful to you.”

But the row escalated further and the other Islanders were forced to step in.

The group tried to continue playing after the first row, but things took a turn for the worse when Luca was dared to kiss the Islander he thought was there for fame.

He kissed Scott on the cheek saying he thinks he wants to get far in the villa.

He added: “That’s why you’re with Tina [Stinnes] and you’re not feeling it now.”

Tina, who is coupled up with Scott, looked horrified and asked for someone to explain.

She eventually walked away crying.

Furious, Scott squared up to Luca for the second time and asked: “This guy, who are you bro? Wow?”

The row came after Scott confided in the boys about how he was really feeling about Tina.

He said: “I dunno where I am… something’s stressing me out a little bit… when she’s in the garden I’m not wanting to rush over… this girl is so good for me and the fact I’m not buzzing p****s me off.”

Luca then said: “You can’t help how you feel, definitely keep that to yourself though.”

Scott agreed: “We’ll make a pact – don’t say anything to our girls cause if that gets back to Tina it needs to come from me.”

‘That hasn’t aged well’ say Strictly fans as awkward moment between Wynne & Katya resurfaces after his crude sex comment

STRICLTY fans have spotted an awkward moment in a resurfaced clip between Wynne Evans and Katya Jones after his crude sex comment.

Earlier this week, the opera singer let slip the shock remark at the start of the Strictly live tour shows before pulling out of the Glasgow performance, citing an ankle injury.

BBC Wales presenter Wynne, 52, is thought to be “hanging onto” his day-job after being heard suggesting a threesome with mum-of-one Janette Manrara, using the derogatory term “spit roast.”

Now Strictly fans have pointed out at another awkward encounter Wynne had with Katya before the Strictly final.

The BBC dance show shared a video of some clips from behind-the-scenes that didn’t make the cut.

Posing the video on Strictly’s official YouTube page, Katya playfully told Wynne that she was going to “block him on Instagram“.

The Welsh opera singer responded: “You’re going to block me on Instagram.”

But some fans have noted that the comment has “not aged well” in light of Wynne’s recent remark.

One fan said: “Remembering one of the digital videos they posted on Youtube, think it was a bloopers one, where Katya says ‘I’m going to block you on Instagram’ and Wynne says ‘no you’re not’. Obviously may have been in a jokey way but certainly won’t age well I imagine.”

The shock moment came at a photocall to launch the Strictly live tour, when Wynne reportedly pulled a suggestive face at actor Jamie Borthwick, 30, as Janette moved between them — which is when he allegedly made the joke.

He has since issued an apology and told The Mail on Sunday: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise.”

BBC and Strictly Live producers said: “We have made it clear to Wynne we do not tolerate such behaviour on tour.”

Janette’s spokeswoman said she had been “unaware of this comment”.

Wynne previously came under fire in last year’s Strictly series when he was seen groping Katya, but they dismissed it as a joke.

He then told how he had been left “heartbroken” over the backlash, which came when he was seen with his hand around professional partner Katya‘s waist.

She was also seen refusing to high-five the singer – sparking rumours of a fall-out.

The duo were quick to issue a video apology and insisted it was all an innocent “inside joke”.

Furious Ferne McCann ‘let down’ by famous pals who failed to support her on Dancing on Ice before shock axe

DISAPPOINTED Ferne McCann was “let down” by her famous pals who failed to support her on Dancing on Ice.

The 34-year-old was the second star to be knocked out of the competition in a shock early exit.

Ferne finished third from the bottom of the leader board during movie night but received the fewest votes from viewers – despite the best efforts of Real Housewives of Cheshire star Tanya Bardsley who told her 583k followers: “Don’t forget to vote for Ferne!”

However, many of her former Towie co-stars went quiet online.

An insider told us: “Her closest friends didn’t even post the ITV number to save her or encourage their fans to vote.

“One of her best friends totally ignored it even though she’s been there for them through thick and thin.

“Maybe if her friends had rallied around her and posted in her favour, it would have been a different outcome.

“I’m sure it feels like a real kick in the teeth.”

As The Sun revealed earlier today, Ferne was “crying hysterically” backstage – unable to understand what had gone wrong.

After hosts Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern delivered the bad news, Ferne said: “I’m so gutted, so gutted, but… it is what it is.

“We were having so much fun, I’m really sad…”

Ferne’s voice trailed off as Holly said sympathetically: “Oh Ferne I can see you’re upset.”

Ferne waved to the crowd before becoming overwhelmed with emotion and covering her face.

She didn’t make it round the whole rink and ended up exiting down the tunnel early.

Ferne McCann boasts 2.9million followers on Instagram, while her competitor Charlie Brooks – who was also in the bottom two – has just 304,000.

However, having both received the fewest votes, Ferne was told her time on Dancing on Ice was over.

Despite the disappointment, sources close to Ferne insist she pulled herself together for her seven-year-old daughter Sunday.

The Sun has approached Ferne’s rep for comment.

Strictly stars support struggling Wynne Evans on his birthday after his vile sexual comment about host

WYNNE Evans’ Strictly Come Dancing co-stars have been offering their support to him as he marks his birthday, according to reports.

The Welsh warbler turned 53 today and is said to have been “comforted” by his pals from the Strictly Live Tour.

It has emerged he made a crass comment to host Janette Manrara at a photo call[/caption]

Wynne’s co-stars are said to be rallying round after he was hauled over the coals for making a crude comment to the tour’s host Janette Manrara.

The star, who took part in last year’s series of Strictly, made a joke using the hugely demeaning term ‘spit roast’ during a tour photocall in Birmingham earlier this month.

Wynne has reportedly accepted an offer by the BBC to take some time away from his BBC Radio Wales show.

He is being replaced on BBC Radio Wales by comic Robin Windsor.

According to the MailOnline, Wynne has taken the break ‘amid the furore’ of his comment to Janette and because he is still grieving the loss of his brother Huw, who passed away earlier this month.

Wynne is also said to be feeling the physical strain of being on the road with the live UK tour.

An insider told the publication: “Wynne is being supported by his co-stars, they’re making a big push to ensure he’s ok as they’re worried about his low spirts.

“He’s had a tough few days and with it being his birthday today, they’re making a real effort to show he’s not alone.”

Wynne’s comment, referring to Janette and their tour co-star, EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick, was caught on camera and published online over the weekend.

He has since apologised for making the remark, saying: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise.”

On Saturday night, as news of his lewd remark came to light, Wynne pulled out of performing with Katya Jones due to an ankle injury.

He did, however, still take to the stage in Glasgow and belted out an opera song.

Wynne later shared a picture of his bruised foot on social media and told fans about his vocal performance in Scotland.

He said: “Ankle’s getting a bit better, it was great to be able to sing in Glasgow tonight, even if I couldn’t dance, hopefully back tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Janette’s spokeswoman said she had been “unaware of this comment” Wynne had made.

BBC and Strictly Live producers said: “We have made it clear to Wynne we do not tolerate such behaviour on tour.”

Wynne previously came under fire in last year’s series of Strictly when he was seen groping his dance partner Katya, but they dismissed it as a joke.

Heartbreaking moment Love Island All Star Tina breaks down in tears and storms out of row with Scott

LOVE Island All Stars’ Tina Stinnes has broken down in tears during a tense row with Scott Thomas.

Tina, 29, came to blows with Scott, 36, and stormed off following the biggest row to rock this year’s villa so far.

Tempers flared during a game of Truth Or Dare when Scott made a cryptic comment about Grace Jackson, 26.

Scott said he had a truth he wanted to ask Grace – who is coupled up with Luca Bish – but said he “didn’t want to say” it aloud.

Luca, 25, snapped before announcing minutes later that Scott had said he’s “not feeling it now” with Tina.

Tina began to cry before walking off and raging in the girls’ dressing room.

In a sneak peek of tonight’s episode (Monday), things go from bad to worse for Tina and Scott.

Pulling her for a chat on a couple of beanbag chairs, Scott tells her: “By the way, what he’s just said has been completely, like….”

Tina interrupts: “Well, I’ve just got told you wanted to tell me this today.”

Scott replies: “I said to the boys tonight, basically, I love spending time with you, we vibe, but I wanted to say to you tonight that I’m worried I’m not fully in the same place you’re at.”

Wiping her eyes, Tina coldly says: “Cool.”

Scott continues: “That’s all it was going to be.”

With her emotions running high, Tina tearfully shoots back: “I’m p***ed off!

“Like I’m just annoyed. I need to process all this s***.

“And now I’m going to withdraw. I’m going to withdraw myself.”

Tina then stands up and storms off, leaving Scott sitting on his beanbag alone.

The tension reached fever pitch on Sunday night when Scott accused Luca of stirring the pot during a group challenge, which quickly escalated into a shouting match.

The gang were enjoying a Las Vegas-themed evening when it all kicked off during a roulette game of Truth Or Dare.

It landed on a truth for Grace, to which Scott muttered that he had one before refusing to say it ‘out of respect’ for Luca.

Luca instantly became annoyed and said: “Say it. If you want to go there, go there?”

Scott insisted: “Bro I’m being respectful to you.”

Love Island All Stars 2025 official line-up

Love Island All Stars is back on TV for season 2.

Here we take you through the line-up of all the Islanders who are in the villa so far.

Bombshells

Each series brings with it a string of hot single bombshells making their epic entrance into the villa.

Here’s who has joined the villa so far:

The islanders were then forced to step in as the row escalated further.

Once calm, they tried to continue with the game, but it kicked off for a second time when Luca was dared to kiss the islander he thought ‘was there for fame’.

He kissed Scott on the cheek, saying he thinks he wants to get far in the villa.

Luca added: “That’s why you’re with Tina and you’re not feeling it now.”

Tina, who is coupled up with Scott, looked horrified and asked for someone to explain.

She eventually walked away crying, before shouting with fury in the girls’ dressing room.
