Brits urged to prepare 3 day ‘survival kit’ as spies warn Putin is plotting to sabotage gas pipelines & cause blackouts

BRITS have been urged to chillingly prepare a three-day “survival kit” as spies warn mad Vladimir Putin is plotting to sabotage gas pipelines and cause devastating blackouts.

While the UK continues to pursue Net Zero environmental targets, the country has shown dangerous reliance on supplies of gas and electricity from abroad.

Close to a whopping 40 per cent of the UK’s gas supply comes from Norway, most of which through the single, 700-mile Langeled pipeline.

And fears loom that Russia is plotting to sabotage the gas pipelines, especially since one of their Yantar spy ships was detected mapping the UK’s critical underwater infrastructure in the North Sea recently.

The UK is said to have been close to blackouts during winters in the past – but narrowly avoided emergency using last-resort reserves and Denmark’s electricity imported undersea.

Now security experts have argued that Brit households should have a three-day survival kit – following suit of the rest of the EU.

One source revealed: “We know that the Russians are active in the North Sea and have the power to cripple our energy links.

“We need to become much more self-sufficient, and quickly. And households should be ready for all eventualities.”

The push to get people survival-ready isn’t just a fever dream, but an EU-backed strategy.

The European Union is now formally urging every household across its 27 member states to have a three day emergency kit ready – not just for war, but for natural disasters and crises of all kinds.

It comes as Russian spy sensors have been discovered in UK waters, believed to be tracking Britain’s nuclear submarines.

The Sunday Times reports the discovery was deemed a serious national security risk but has never been made public.

Some of the devices were found washed ashore, while others were detected by Royal Navy minehunter ships.

Defence sources believe they were planted to gather intelligence on the UK’s four Vanguard-class submarines.

These carry nuclear missiles and are meant to operate undetected as part of the UK’s at-sea deterrent.

The Ministry of Defence suspects Russia deployed the spy gear as part of a wider campaign of “greyzone” warfare, targeting cables, pipelines and undersea assets.

And hundreds of turbines off our coast have been described as a “national security disaster” which make it virtually impossible to thwart saboteurs..

Labour Energy Minister Ed Milliband’s net zero drive is also said to have left Britain at the mercy of Putin’s covert campaign to cripple his European enemies by stealth.

As civilians are readying for Russian tanks rolling into cities, The Sun has what you need to survive 72 hours into nuclear Armageddon – on a budget.

WHAT TO PACK IN ‘SURVIVAL KIT’

We hit the high street to pack a survival kit as the EU announces it is ready to order all citizens to prepare an emergency pack of supplies.

Based on France’s official emergency kit, the first thing you will want to grab is a torch. If it was about to rain missiles, the power grid may be affected instantly.

Along with the torch, pack as many batteries as you have, to ensure that you don’t fall into complete darkness during such an emergency.

Putin’s mysterious cable cutting submarines

RUSSIA is believed to have six submarines dedicated to the cable cutting mission - with the Losharik the most modern and capable.

Only a handful of grainy photographs exist of the vessel and everything known about it comes from educated guesswork.

A fire on board Losharik in 2019 resulted in the deaths of 14 submariners, reportedly including some of the most experienced decorated in the Russian navy.

The Kremlin has never explained what the submarine was doing just 60 miles off the coast of Norway in the first place.

According to submarine expert H.I Sutton, who writes the Covert Shores blog, the submarine is constructed from seven spherical titanium hulls strung together which gives it extraordinary strength.

The vessel is named after a Russian cartoon horse, which is made up of lots of many spheres joined together.

It can operate at up to depths of 3300ft, far greater than conventional submarines and have special attachments allowing them to rest at the bottom of the sea.

The submarines are deployed from the giant Belgorod, itself designed for special operations, and currently the longest submarine currently serving in the world’s navies.

Many torches are sold with batteries included for around £8, but always have more than you think you would need.

Batteries separately may set you back around £5, but it’s encouraged to buy various types to fit different devices.

Spare batteries will also be vital for the next thing to shove into your backpack: a battery-powered radio.

Having a radio is also crucial to surviving the first 72 hours to keep up to date on what is happening worldwide on land, sea and in the skies.

You can buy a radio for a mere £15 from high-street shops like Argos.

Also prioritise packing portable chargers and spare charging wires for your devices, to keep you online for those gut-wrenching hours – costing you around £15 on average.

A large first aid kit also takes priority during emergencies, containing key items like face masks, foil blankets, medical scissors and antiseptic wipes.

The Sun managed to grab one containing all the necessities for only £12 from Tesco.

Nato members are continuing to prepare their citizens and troops for a potential terrifying fight

It is also vital to pack any medications you normally take – and purchase any extras like paracetamol and ibuprofen as you don’t know how long you may have to remain in a bunker.

In regards to food, prioritise packing non-perishable but fibre-filled items like beans, lentils, rice and soups to last you throughout the start of the terrifying emergency.

Tesco sells a 500g pack of red split lentils for £2 – they’re easy to cook with just water and heat, even over a camping stove or open flame.

Chunky soups at just £1.20 a can, and bulk tinned goods like meat, fish, veg, and even fruit can offer protein and variety.

Many supermarkets also have frequent multi-buy deals, in case you want to really stock up.

Tinned meat and fish are also a good idea for protein and costs no more than £1 from most supermarkets.

No survival kit is complete without water – and lots of it.

The average person needs at least two litres a day, and more if under stress or eating dry food.

Tesco sells a 12-pack of bottled water for £1.80 – and it’s one of the first things you should stock up when prepping your kit.

Next, turn to grabbing a woolly hat, scarf, gloves, and a warm jumper and waterproof coat.

It’s important to be prepared for the ever-changing conditions of world war, and, depending on the time of year, clothes to keep your temperature up could save your life.

The Sun went to SportsDirect to grab a hat and gloves for £12 – but you may be better off heading to somewhere like Poundland.

And finally, don’t forget morale – the psychological toll of living underground in fear is immense.

Card games like Uno – £8 at Argos – can offer a nice distraction from wartime, boosting mental health and building social bonds, especially if you’re stuck in a bunker with family or friends.

In total, our emergency survival kit cost around £70.

The whole plan takes inspiration from war-savvy Scandinavia, where citizens in FinlandSweden and Denmark are already told to prep for blackouts, invasions and worst-case scenarios.

Now the EU wants to ensure every citizen knows how to survive the unthinkable – and The Sun’s kit proves you can do it without spending a bomb.

France issues invasion survival guide

FRANCE is the latest country set to issue an invasion survival how-to guide for its citizens.

The 20-page booklet will give advice to French civilians on how to defend the republic in the face of an invasion by signing up to reserve units or local defence efforts.

It will also have tips on how to create a survival kit with essentials including six litres of water, canned food, batteries, and basic medical supplies.

French president Emmanuel Macron revealed French fighter jets equipped with a new generation of hypersonic nuclear missiles are now stationed on the border with ally Germany.

Berlin likely sits under the protection of France’s nuclear weapons – Macron would fire nukes in defence of his ally if Germany were attacked as France would consider itself threatened.

It’s something which Poland now also wants and which the French President is considering granting.

Warsaw is looking at getting nuclear weapon protection from either Paris or Washington DC and is set to implement conscription for all men.

The Baltics and Nordic countries are acutely aware of the threat Russia poses with all having some form of conscription already in place.

Norwegian officials are preparing for mass evacuation drills for citizens in some of the country’s most northern towns.

Norway, which shares a 121 mile border with Russia in the Arctic, is hosting a Nato exercise next year and wants civilians to also take part.

Man, 45, loses staggering 13st WITHOUT fat jabs – after horrifyingly embarrassing incident at footie match

WHEN Steven Duffield attended a football match, he had no idea what lay ahead.

When he tried to squeeze through the turnstile at the match ground, his 30-stone bulk proved to be more than a problem.

He got stuck in the turnstile – and it took several football ground stewards to pull him out.

He went on to watch the rest of the match, but after that, vowed to take drastic action.

Now the 45-year-old has managed to walk off nearly 17 stone, in less than a year.

Steven, who lives in Worcestershire, said: “It was totally humiliating when I tried to get through the turnstile to watch the match, and I got stuck.

“It was infront of dozens of football fans, and I was so embarrassed.

“A couple of the stewards could see what had happened, and came forward to help.

“Between them they managed to tug me out. I knew then that things had to change.”

Steven, who is single, started piling on the pounds after losing his mum to a brain aneurysm nine years ago.

He said: “I was struggling with my mental health previously to that.

“I had a nervous breakdown and I had to have therapy and the medication I was put on made me start to pile on the weight.

“Then just a year later, I lost mum, and she died in my arms as I was holding on to her.

“I was left to look after my dad who then went on to develop dementia, and I turned to food as a comfort.”

Steven didn’t have any breakfast or lunch, but then would have a takeaway every night.

He said: “I ploughed my way through Subways, Indian, Chinese, I had a different takeaway every night, and I’d eat and eat until I felt sick.

“I’d snack too on crisps, peanuts, anything I could get my hands on.”

I went to the doctor and he said I was so unhealthy that I had no more than ten years left to live

Steven Duffield

It was when he went to a football match with his brother-in-law and two nephews one Boxing Day in 2022 at Port Vale’s home ground in Stoke on Trent, that he reached his rock bottom.

He said: “We’d gone to watch the match that Christmas, and everyone was in a good mood and looking forward to the game.

“But when it was my turn to get through the turnstile, I quickly realised that I was stuck. So many people were watching me, it was awful.

As well as walking Steven would drink apple cider vinegar daily to boost my metabolism[/caption]

“After that I knew I had to do something about it, but I had no idea about how to go about it.

“I went to the doctor months later and he said I was so unhealthy that I had no more than ten years left to live.

“I was only 43 at the time, so that was devastating to hear.”

‘One step in front of the other’

In February last year, he decided to overhaul his diet and cut out the takeaways. And he also set himself a challenge of walking 50,000 steps in a day.

“It was about changing my mindset completely,” said Steven, who is now looking for love after being single for ten years.

“I was desperate, but it was as simple as putting one step in front of another and that’s how I did it.

“I also took apple cider vinegar daily to boost my metabolism, and used a sauna every day too, to try and raise my heart rate to burn more calories.

“It was difficult to walk first of all, as I’d get so exhausted because of my size.

“And I walked just six miles in the first month. But it became more and more easy and now I’m up to 25 miles a day.

“I cooked more healthy meals too, and I was walking 50,000 steps a day.”

Steven, who now weighs 12 stone, is set to walk 1880 miles trekking across the Sahara desert in October this year, to fundraise for the Acorn Children’s Hospice.

‘Living in a fog’

It’s close to his heart as it provides support to his niece Meggie.

The 11-year-old has a rare chromosomal disorder called Mosiac Trisomy where some cells in the body have three copies of a chromosome instead of two, causing developmental issues.

Steven achieved his amazing 17-stone loss in December 2023 and has maintained his current weight for 15 months.

He added: “I went to a friend’s funeral last year, and had a ten-minute conversation with the parents and the dad tapped me on the shoulder later and apologised and said he’d had no idea whom he’d been talking to. They hadn’t even recognised me.

“The last ten years have been a total write off for me.

“It’s like I’ve been living in a fog. It feels like I’m a completely different person now.

“I would like to find Mrs Right one day, and I have got more confidence now thanks to losing weight.

“It has totally changed my life, and I feel blessed that I’ve been able to change before it was too late.”

How to lose weight safely

Losing weight should be a long-term commitment to healthier living, rather than any drastic measures.

The NHS tips – which can be adopted slowly – include:

  • Get active for 150 minutes a week – you can break this up into shorter sessions
  • Aim to get your 5 A Day – 80g of fresh, canned or frozen fruit or vegetables count as 1 portion
  • Aim to lose 1 to 2lbs, or 0.5 to 1kg, a week
  • Read food labels – products with more green colour coding than amber and red are often a healthier option
  • Swap sugary drinks for water – if you do not like the taste, add slices of lemon or lime for flavour
  • Cut down on food that’s high in sugar and fat – start by swapping sugary cereal for wholegrain alternatives
  • Share your weight loss plan with someone you trust – they can help motivate you when you have a bad day

Alan Carr reveals mortifying Interior Design Masters left woman in tears for the wrong reasons – and what happened next

ALAN Carr has revealed a mortifying moment where a woman was left in tears on Interior Design Masters.

The hit BBC One show is returning for another series with funnyman Alan at the helm once again.

The hit show is returning – and bosses have already confirmed another two episodes are on the way[/caption]

Alan, 48, has been hosting the format since 2021, when he replaced Fearne Cotton.

For this year’s series, participants have the chance to win the opportunity to collaborate with John Lewis for their very own collection of homeware.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun’s TV Mag, Alan has revealed one recipient of the Beeb makeover was left in tears.

He recalled: “I’m not naming and shaming, but there was one where we were waiting and the woman came around the corner crying.

“We were like: ‘Oh my God, she loves it!’ And as she was getting closer, I was like: ‘Oh, they’re not happy tears!’”

The presenter also let slip a major filming secret – admitting the transformations are undone the next day.

Alan explained: “We do it back the next day to how it was before.

“That’s in the contract.”

BBC bosses have also invested in Interior Design Masters, as Alan said the standard has increased.

He said: “They’ve really pushed the boat out with the spaces in this series. The first one is in the gorgeous Lake District doing youth hostels, then we do a dog’s transition room at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

“We do comedy clubs in Edinburgh – they were actually doing up some that I performed in when I was in the Fringe back in 2003 and 2004,  so that was really emotional for me – and quirky cottages up in Portmeirion for the final.

“The way they push the envelope keeps me excited, because it’s the sixth series now, so they need to excite me, the designers the audience.”

Meanwhile, earlier this week it was revealed how Interior Design Masters had been renewed for two more series.

Major update as fake reviews and sneaky hidden fees banned once and for all

MILLIONS of shoppers will be better protected from sneaky fees and fake reviews once and for all following a major change.

A new law comes into effect today meaning households will avoid being duped online and save money.

New laws from today meaning shoppers are better protected from hidden fees[/caption]

Companies selling online now have to include all mandatory fees, including admin or booking fees, in the total headline price rather than feeding them through at different stages of the booking process – known as “drip-pricing”.

The new law will stop a host of hidden fees being added to shoppers’ bills when buying train tickets, concert tickets and takeaways.

The Government said around £2.2billion is spend on hidden fees every year.

Fake reviews will also be banned as part of new rules coming into effect today.

It means punters won’t turn up to restaurants with seemingly glowing online reviews only to find they’re not up to scratch.

Shoppers will also be better protected from fake reviews of products, saving them money and hassle.

Around 90% of shoppers base what products they buy on online reviews, with £217billion spent in the online retail sector in 2023.

Justin Madders, minister for employment rights, competition and markets, said: “From today consumers can confidently make purchases knowing they are protected against fake reviews and dripped pricing.

“These changes will give consumers more power and control over their hard-earned cash, as well as help to establish a level playing field by deterring bad actors that undercut compliant businesses.”

The new rules from today only ban unavoidable fees and not optional fees such as airline seats and luggage upgrades for flights.

They also make it a legal requirement for businesses and online platforms to remove fake reviews from their websites.

Sarah Cardell, chief executive of regulator the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), said: “We will use these new provisions to safeguard people from harmful and unfair treatment, and to foster the level-playing field for the vast majority of businesses who want to do the right thing for their customers.

“We will be tackling the more egregious practices first and working hard to support businesses with compliance, conscious that – especially for small businesses – the burden of following the rules must be proportionate.”

How to save money shopping online

Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals a few ways you can save money on your next online shop.

  1. Use cashback websites – use cashback websites like TopCashback and Quidco where you can get free cash on top of any qualifying purchases.
  2. Compare prices – make sure you compare prices to ensure you’re getting the best deal. You can use websites like Trolley, Price Spy or Price Runner.
  3. Factor in delivery costs – plenty of retailers charge you for delivery, even standard delivery, so make sure you read the small print before putting an order in. Some will waive any delivery charges if you spend over a certain amount.

Previous research by the Department for Business and Trade has found drip-pricing is commonly used by online traders.

The Government department found 72% of transport and communication providers used the strategy.

Meanwhile, almost 50% of online and mobile app firms include at least one dripped fee, excluding delivery fees, at the checkout.

Consumer website Which? has previously said while the new regulation introduced from today is promising, further action should be taken to tackle sneaky pricing tactics by firms.

Our village is ruined by F1 HQ – it sounds like TORNADO & now they want to make it even bigger… we’re being forced out

FURIOUS locals are revving up for a battle with F1 motor racing team Williams over plans to expand its UK headquarters.

Residents living close to the motor sport company’s site in Grove, Wiltshire, say they are already being driven round the bend by noise and traffic.

Nearby residents claim noise levels from the base are comparable to a ‘tornado’[/caption]

The company have reportedly bought farmland they wish to expand on[/caption]

They argue the biggest culprit is a giant wind tunnel used by engineers to test the aerodynamics of the super-fast Williams team’s cars.

One local told The Sun: “When the wind tunnel is at full throttle you can hear it sucking in the air. It’s like a tornado.”

We pretty much need a motorway here to deal with all the traffic this site generates

Disgruntled resident

Now nearby homeowners fear their lives are going to be made even more of a misery.

It comes after Williams submitted a planning enquiry to the local authority about expanding its already-massive base.

Controversial plans include a helipad and car park for 800 vehicles.

It is believed the company has already snapped up farmland next to its existing site with hopes to build on it, locals claimed.

One resident, an IT director who lives just 50 metres from the Williams perimeter fence, said: “I’ve been following the Williams plans and it looks like this is the first step towards near-enough doubling the size of this site.

“They’ve been clever because it’s just a scoping exercise at present to test the water and see what the planners think of their plans in principle.

“Doing it this way saves Williams a fortune because they don’t have to spend money on environmental impact reports.

“If the council turn them down, it will have cost them almost nothing.

“If the council says they might agree, subject to a detailed planning submission, at that point it will start to get expensive for them because they’ll need all sorts of environmental surveys done and they don’t come cheap.

“It’d open countryside so there’ll be all sorts of flora and fauna to consider, as well as a brook.

“Apparently they’ve bought a lot of land off a local farmer and are already starting to fence it off. I’d be pretty sure that’s where they’re looking to expand the site.

“If they get the green light to expand, life for us locals will be a nightmare. It’s a beautiful part of the world – we’ve got so much nature on our doorstep and it will be ruined if Williams are given permission to cover everything in even more concrete.

“The construction alone will take a couple of years and it will generate more noise and traffic chaos than I dare imagine.”

Another resident, who asked not to be named, added: “If they get planning permission to expand this site, I’m going to sell up and move.

“It’s already horrendous living here because of the constant flow of traffic in and out of the site .

“The roads around here are already under incredible pressure because of the Williams traffic and every journey I take nowadays seems to take longer and longer.

“We pretty much need a motorway here to deal with all the traffic this site generates.

“It is noisy and dusty and a bigger site means more noise, dust and traffic. I don’t want to look out of my window onto an 800-vehicle car park and I certainly don’t want to hear helicopters clattering in and out 24/7.

“I’m also worried about the environmental impact expanding the site will cause.”

But others in the area welcome the potential expansion.

One said: “This area needs jobs and we should be celebrating an employer who has the courage to grow their business.

“There’ll be hundreds of construction jobs for starters and a bigger site means more jobs later down the line. Well done Williams.”

Someone else continued: “I have nothing but respect for any company wishing to expand in this economic climate. People need to stop being nimbies and embrace the opportunities Williams give this town.”

Williams was contacted for comment.

F1 tycoon Ron Dennis starts work on £30m mansion with secret tunnel to River Thames, huge garage, & underground baths

By

F1 TYCOON Ron Dennis has started work on a £30 million mansion – complete with a secret tunnel to the River Thames, a huge garage and underground baths.

Diggers were spotted at the 175-acre plot of premium Berkshire parkland – which Ron bought after selling his McLaren shares for a whopping £275 million in 2017.

The F1 legend, and former mentor to Lewis Hamilton, initially submitted plans for the mammoth project in 2018, but work never started.

Updated documents were resubmitted to the planning authority in 2021 and approved in 2023.

On the basement level, the 77-year-old plans to build a games room, wine cellar, cinema, gym, underground swimming pool – akin to Roman-style baths – and spa.

A spiral staircase will lead up to the basement mezzanine level, which will come complete with its own water feature, as well as a car park and car wash.

The ground floor will be home to a library and housekeeper’s office – with a guest wing and gallery on the first floor, and master bedroom and outdoor garden on the second floor.

The structure will also be accompanied by a host of outbuildings – including stables and a boathouse.

Plus, a tunnel will provide boat access down to the River Thames.

In aerial shots obtained by the Mail, diggers could be seen beginning their excavation of the site.

Markings could also be seen on the ground, plotting out the various sections of the development.

Many cars and vans appeared to be parked at the temporary construction site.
