I lifted a hidden compartment in my washing machine & it was COVERED in mould – check yours it could be making you sick

THE washing machine is one of the hardest-working appliances in any household, but to ensure it performs at its best, a little regular maintenance is key.

Many people overlook certain hidden areas of their washing machine, yet keeping these spots clean and well-maintained is essential for prolonging its lifespan and ensuring it runs efficiently.

The cleaning fan removes the hidden compartment from the inside of the washing machine[/caption]

And one cleaning fan shared a hidden compartment in the washing machine that she found was covered in mould.

The woman, who goes by the name of ‘cleaner_tyna’ on TikTok, shared a video on her social media account showing her followers where to clean.

She captioned it: “Maintain your washing machine. The most random things might be the cause of our skin issues.”

The hidden compartment is the drum paddle which is found inside the washing machine.

She lifted it up and found lots of dirt that had gathered underneath it, before then scraping the dirt to the side and using an electric toothbrush and soapy water to clean the drum.

Tyna believes that by cleaning this area, you can help to prevent eczema

Her video gained a lot of attention, with many rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts.

One asked: “How did you take it off though?”

To which Tyna replied: “I searched my model up on YouTube, all I needed was a small screwdriver to press in the metal tags but the challenge was getting them back in.”

Another said: “Or you could just clean your washing machine with a cleaner once a month.”

And Tyna replied: “I have done, I’m trying not to put any chemicals in my machine now because of eczema flare ups but the inside looked like this…the machine is around eight years old though.”

A third asked: “Do we not drum clean?”

And Tyna commented: “Yes, hot washes with white vinegar.”

According to Curry’s website, experts say that you should first identify the cause of a smelling washing machine.

They suggest cleaning door seals, the detergent drawer, the washing machine drum, and the washing machine filter.

More winter laundry tips

Tackling laundry in the winter can be a challenge, but these handy tips can help you stay on top of it:

  • Use a Dehumidifier: Place a dehumidifier in your drying area to speed up the drying process and prevent dampness.
  • Spin Cycle Boost: Run an extra spin cycle on your washing machine to remove excess water from clothes, reducing drying time.
  • Indoor Drying Rack: Invest in a good-quality indoor drying rack and position it near a radiator or in a well-ventilated room.
  • Tumble Dryer Balls: Add tumble dryer balls to your dryer to help clothes dry faster and reduce static cling.
  • Space-Saving Hangers: Use space-saving hangers or a retractable washing line to maximise indoor drying space.
  • Microfibre Towels: Lay microfibre towels over your drying rack to absorb extra moisture from hanging clothes.
  • Partially Dry Outside: On dry days, hang clothes outside for a short period before bringing them in to finish drying.

These hacks can help you keep your laundry routine efficient and your clothes fresh, even during the colder months.

I tested best wines under £5, from knockout reds to crisp whites – a Chardonnay tasted better than a £10 bottle

A GLASS or two of wine does not have to cost a bundle.

But how can you make sure you get a corker for your money, rather than a cheap tipple that falls flat?

Helena Nicklin has tested the best bottles of reds, whites and rosés – that are all under £5[/caption]

To help you make the right choice, drinks expert Helena Nicklin selects some of the best bottles of reds, whites and rosés – all costing less than a fiver – and selects the winners for each category.

Chevalier de Fauvert Chardonnay Pays d’Oc, £4.48, Lidl

Bottle of Chevalier De Fauvert Pays d'Oc Chardonnay wine.
Supplied
Lidl’s Chardonnay offering was the best white for under a fiver[/caption]

IT is a perk of my job that I get my pick of many pricey wines to try.

So I’ll confess that while I’m no vino snob, it is not often I actually choose to drink wine as cheap as this.

However, this gem from Lidl was so impressive I really did open it for myself.

A great example of Southern French Chardonnay with its “just right” melon and peach notes plus a kiss of savoury oak for backbone.

Not remotely sickly or sweet, this is better than many wines that are double the price.

Fabulous for a under a fiver.

Cape Kyala Chenin Blanc, £3.99, Tesco

Bottle of Cape Kyala Chenin Blanc wine from the Western Cape.
Supplied
This Tesco offering is crisp and refreshing[/caption]

I WLL admit that as white wines go, cheap Chenin Blanc rarely fares very well, especially at this “loss-leading” price point.

But this one, which incredibly comes in at less than £4, is definitely drinkable.

It is produced in South Africa and is zingy on the acidity – and super-dry.

Although there is not too much going flavour-wise, when you take a sip it is crisp and refreshing.

Drink it very well-chilled and spend the extra quid on some salty snacks to nibble alongside.

Rating: 3/5

Wollemi Shiraz-Merlot, £4.15, Sainsbury’s

Bottle of Wollemi Shiraz wine.
Supplied
This Sainsbury’s red is full of flavour and comes in an expensive-looking bottle[/caption]

ANOTHER 11 per cent ABV wonder, this South-East Australian vineyard wine used to pack more of a boozy punch.

However, it is still pretty silky and easy drinking plus there are lots of rich and ripe full flavours here.

Think bags of blackcurrant and peppery, damson jam.

It’s fruity but quite savoury with it.

This is named after one of Australia’s oldest trees, and will go well with a good steak.

The bottle looks more expensive than it is, too.

Rating: 3/5

Nice Drop Tempranillo, £4.09, Asda

Bottle of Nice Drop Tempranillo wine.
Supplied
This Asda red is good but not among the best[/caption]

NICE Drop is a good name for this budget range from Asda, as they are all pretty decent drinks for around £4.

There is no vintage on the bottle as the wines are a blend from various years.

This Tempranillo is from Murcia in Spain and has had its ABV lowered to 11 per cent.

But that seems to smooth out the more rustic notes, so it does the wine a favour.

Better with food so a good one to crack into with a burger.

Also excellent to make Sangria.

Rating: 2/5

Pierre Jaurant Bordeaux, £4.99, Aldi

Bottle of 2021 Bordeaux Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon wine.
Supplied
Our red winner is from Aldi and is great with a Sunday roast[/caption]

FOR my money, this cheeky little claret is one of Aldi’s absolutely fantastic red wine buys.

A French heritage sip from Bordeaux but made in a modern style – which means it has a tad more fruit than normal.

This is lush and velvety with a decent dollop of blackcurrant and cedar flavours.

It will be lovely with your Sunday roast or just kicking back and relaxing in front of a fire.

It nails it for a fiver.

Rating: 5/5

Specially Selected Margaret River Rosé, £3.21, Aldi

Bottle of Kooniburra Margaret River Rosé wine.
Supplied
This rosé is a punchy blend, very savoury and a tad smoky, so it won’t be for everyone[/caption]

AT just over £3 a bottle, you won’t find grapes much cheaper.

Despite that, this is still a proper pink from what wine buffs consider to be the “Bordeaux” of Australia, Margaret River, so called thanks to its similar soils and grapes.

This is a punchy blend, very savoury and a tad smoky, so it won’t be for everyone.

But, for the price, I reckon it is worth giving it a go.

With some cold meat it will soften right up – and it looks the part, too.

Rating: 2/5

Kingsland Portuguese Rosé, £5, Morrisons

Bottle of Portuguese Rosé wine.
Supplied
Our rosé winner from Morrisons looks as good as it tastes[/caption]

THIS rather rotund rosé bottle looks – and tastes – suspiciously like its more famous Portuguese friend Mateus.

That one can be far pricier – around £7 – so this is no bad thing at £2 cheaper.

There is a reason this style of wine from the Med has endured. It is crisp and fruity with a refreshing spritz.

Simple but so gluggable, especially if you favour the sweeter side of rosé.

Also makes a great- looking gift.

Rating: 3/5

Penguin Sands Rosé, £4.15, Sainsbury’s

Bottle of Penguin Sands Rose wine.
Supplied
This Sainsbury’s rosé is fine for the price[/caption]

STICK a penguin on the label and it will sell, they said!

Good advice here, with this popular and fun-looking South African tipple.

With a new lower alcohol content of 11 per cent ABV, this is a pleasant option for a lighter, easy-drinking drop.

A blend of various bold red grapes, this new-world rosé gives good flavour without being overblown.

If you are pairing it with a meal, it will go well with more spicier Asian dishes.

And at just over four quid, it is decent value.

Rating: 2/5

La Manoir du Baron Sauvignon Blanc, £4.95, Asda

Bottle of Le Manoir du Baron Sauvignon Blanc wine.
Supplied
Asda’s Sauvignon Blanc is a perfect option for the price point[/caption]

THIS bargain looks and sounds twice the price.

And if you turned up at a party carrying this bottle, its posh label and fancy wine-list worthy name alone would suggest you had spent far more on it.

To be honest, it is pretty hard to mess up Sauvignon because it is so distinctive with its grassy, citrus notes.

This French version shows great character in a much more elegant way than many New Zealand styles.

A perfect option for the price point.

Rating: 4/5

Castellore Italian Fiano, £4.99, Aldi

Bottle of Fiano wine.
Supplied
This Fiano from Aldi is decent enough for the price and is a very useful standby to keep in the fridge[/caption]

OPT for varieties of wines that you may not be so familiar with in the supermarket, and you can find yourself pouring some super value-for-money choices into your glass.

Fiano is a lesser known Italian grape that usually makes cracking, crowd-pleaser whites packed full of tropical flavours.

This version from Aldi is decent enough for the price and is a very useful standby to keep in the fridge.

It is perhaps a tad thin and acidic owing to its lower ABV of 11 per cent but still pretty good for the price.

Pep Guardiola ditches tiki-taka for LONG BALLS as new signing Omar Marmoush sees Man City boss make THREE huge changes

OMAR MARMOUSH’S dazzling debut got Manchester City fans off their seats again.

The £59million buy from Frankfurt ran Chelsea ragged for 74 minutes in their 3-1 win on Saturday — and was unlucky not to score.

The Sun
Marmoush looked sharp on his Man City debut[/caption]

And in SunSport’s Tactics Exposed show, DEAN SCOGGINS looks at how Marmoush is central to Pep Guardiola’s new ‘direct’ tactical plan as he tries to reignite their push for trophies this season.

Here are three tactical nuggets from City’s Etihad triumph…

1)  NOT TIKI-TAKA, BUT QUICK ATTACKER

Marmoush was electric, playing off the left as more of an ‘inside forward’ rather than a winger or No 10.

It was noticeable how direct City were — it was not the short, quick passes between the lines we are so used to from Guardiola teams.

But, instead, there were balls over the top and around Chelsea to the likes of Marmoush, Josko Gvardiol and Matheus Nunes bursting through the defence.

Marmoush set the tone — pointing to where he wanted the ball played, coming short, off striker Erling Haaland, before spinning and darting into spaces behind Chelsea’s high line.

Norwegian striker Haaland had cut a lonely and isolated figure during City’s horror run in November and December but he was back smiling again on Saturday.

He scored a wonderful goal and had some mates to play with. Marmoush complemented Phil Foden on the other side in playing off and around the frontman.

City keeper Ederson was direct and played it straight up to Haaland when he was left one-v-one against a defender.

Sun Sport
Marmoush and Phil Foden gave Chelsea’s defenders nightmares by running beyond Erling Haaland[/caption]

But it wasn’t just ‘hoof it’, this was a tactical plan with Marmoush and Foden completing a triangle of attackers that gave Chelsea’s backline nightmares.

As Haaland pinned the defenders, Foden and Marmoush supported him. And when Haaland came short, his partners in attack burst into the space behind.

It gave City a new dimension and, as Pep admitted last week, was more akin to the ‘modern’ style of Liverpool, Newcastle, Bournemouth and Brighton.

2) NEW SHAPE, NEW CITY

Spaniard Guardiola’s switch-up was not just in their direct style, it was also the shape he got his players to take up.

Lots of Premier League teams move into a 3-2-5 attacking shape from whatever their ‘on-paper’ line up is.

City would usually do this from a 4-3-3 set-up by inverting a full-back into midfield, leaving three defenders, a holding midfielder alongside that full-back in midfield and five attackers to roam ahead.

Illustration of Manchester City's formation with Pep Guardiola.
Sun Sport
Guardiola traditionally inverts a full-back into midfield while in possession allowing two attacking midfielders to join the attack in a 3-2-5 formation[/caption]
Illustration of Manchester City's starting eleven formation.
Sun Sport
However against Chelsea that all changed as his full-backs bombed on to leave just two defenders back[/caption]

But against Chelsea, Pep’s new shape saw it become a 2-3-5 in attack with Bernardo Silva, Mateo Kovacic and Ilkay Gundogan playing as the three in front of the centre-backs and full-backs Gvardiol and Nunes pushing right up into the attacking line.

It was bold — Chelsea almost punished City losing possession early on but Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer wasted chances — though City grew into the game and were a constant threat to Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca’s side pack midfield, so City went around and over it.

3) FULL-BACKS A THROWBACK

Gvardiol is now the top-scoring defender in the Prem, so it’s no surprise to see him bursting forward into the box.

It was more of a shock to see Nunes play at right-back in previous games — but in this shape, he wasn’t really a defender for most of the match.

Sun Sport
Matheus Nunes was a right-back only in name in this formation[/caption]

Pep got his full-backs to play like Nineties and Noughties attacking full-backs[/caption]

Pep got his full-backs to play like Nineties and Noughties attacking full-backs, overlapping, hugging the line and pushing their opposition wingers back.

Their heat maps show they barely ventured infield and Gvardiol’s goal came from Nunes’ shot and run being parried by Robert Sanchez as BOTH made runs beyond Haaland and in behind Chelsea.

Gvardiol pinning back Noni Madueke also saw the Blues winger play Nunes onside for City’s opening goal.

All Stars in new bullying row as Love Island fans beg producers to step in to stop it

Ronnie declared his love for Harriet last night[/caption]

However, in last night’s episode, Grace learned that Ron didn’t fancy Harriett from Casey and so she gave her friend a heads up.

A furious Harriett later pulled Ron for a chat and said: “I’ve heard a few things from everyone else about how you’re feeling but it’s a bit of a shock as it’s such early days.”

She explained that she wasn’t happy about her ex Ronnie finding out that he didn’t fancy her before she did.

Ron explained that he was put in the spotlight and admitted that there wasn’t an immediate spark between them but he wanted to get to know her.

As Harriett continued to discuss the situation with him, a host of islanders lay on the day beds giggling and watching the confrontation.

Harriett then ended the conversation by stating that it was fine that things hadn’t worked out between them before she walked away.

Harriett then met up with Grace who told her that she had handled the whole thing very well.

Later, tempers flared during a game of Truth Or Dare when Ron was asked to kiss the bitchiest person as a dare.

He picked Ekin-Su, much to the group’s shock and Ekin-Su asked him why he picked her out of everyone else.

Ron explained: “Sometimes you rile things up.

“For example, saying you did do this, you did say this, even though you wasn’t even here on the day”

Ron was talking about a previous instance when Ekin-Su said Ronnie had called his romance with Harriet a show romance but wasn’t even there.

Ekin-Su replied: “Darling, it’s called backing up my friends, OK? I’ll be behind my girls every day, all the time.

“And I’ll be behind my girls every day, all the time. So shut up!”

Fans of the show are convinced that Ron is being bullied and want it to end.

One fan said: “I feel for Ron, they r bullying him.”

Another added: “I hate bullies, and i feel like they are bullying ron.”

“It’s kinda touching the bullying line at this point. Why are they being so harsh on Ron?” exclaimed another.

Another agreed it needed to stop and said: “Atm they’re bullying Ron can they stop!”

Love Island All Stars continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
