You can buy your own English beach for just £50k… with nearby holiday resort and seaside theme park

IF you love the idea of having a beach all to yourself, you soon could – with a stretch of the UK coastline on sale for £50,000.

Found across Skegness, four plots of beach are on sale for the price of the UK’s average house deposit.

The smaller patches are around one acre[/caption]

You could even buy all 35.5 acres[/caption]

According to Statista, the average deposit put down for a house was £53,414 last year.

So for less than that, you could get around one acre of the seaside.

The larger stretch of beach costs around £250,000, which is around 35.5 acres.

Want to splash out on it all? You could then own a huge 83.7 acres of sand.

They are being sold by Poyntons Consultancy and advertised on Rightmove, as reported by Luxury Property News.

The listing reads: “The tourist resort of Ingoldmells along with Skegness and Mablethorpe is located on the Lincolnshire coast famous for its tourist attractions including Fantasy Island, Butlins holiday resorts as well as a large number of other attractions.

“The resort is located on the A52 trunk road.

“It is estimated to have an annual population in excess of 2.5 million tourists per year.

“The area is currently undergoing significant investment, there are a number of schemes under investigation in the area.

“The beach to be sold is unusual in that it includes land measured to the low tide level as per the Ordnance Survey plans attached with these details.”

The area is famous for tourist attractions such as Fantasy Island and Butlins holiday resort.

Last summer Butlin’s opened their new £12million luxury holiday lodges in Skegness.

Along with the new Maple Walk Village, the new £2.5million Skypark also opened at Butlin’s Skegness – with the UK’s longest seesaw.

If you fancy visiting Fantasy Island, the theme park opened a new ride last year in Skegness.

The town is even dubbed Skeg Vegas – here are some other things to do in the seaside town.

Moment Jet2 passenger dragged off flight after downing half a bottle of whisky & telling stewardess ‘f*** off you rat’

THIS is the dramatic moment a drunk Jet2 passenger was dragged off a flight heading to Turkey in front of shocked holiday goers.

Footage shows Lewis Howarth, 36, being hauled off the plane at Manchester Airport by cops after launching a foul-mouthed tirade at cabin crew.

The unruly passenger was seen baring his teeth as officers attempted to arrest him[/caption]

The inebriated passenger had reportedly glugged half a bottle of whiskey and called one flight attendant a “d***head” when asked to fasten his seatbelt.

Cops quickly swooped in and were escorted toward unruly Howarth, who was described as “highly intoxicated” and had been swearing at other shocked holidaymakers.

When officers tried to coax Howarth off the flight, he quickly became belligerent.

“He started to resist and tried to fight or assault those escorting him,” prosecutor Saul Brody said.

“He was taken to the floor and handcuffed, and was described as thrashing his head towards the passengers and officers.

“He was restrained on the floor of the aisle, and once outside he continued shouting abuse towards the officers.”

Passengers applauded as the disruptive Howarth was booted off the Jet2 flight.

An officer told him: “You were bang out of order, there were so many kids on there.”

Howarth, from Bolton, then slurred back: “My kids are there… you are f****** wrong.

“Nah f*** off you little rats.

“Do you [really think] I’m not going to go on holiday?”

When cops told Howarth he had been placed under arrest, the passenger responded: “No I’m not, you little rat, you f****** d***heads, rat b******s.”

Prosecutors added that Howarth continued to resist arrest on the boarding bridge, kicking out at officers and even attempting to sink his teeth into them as he was escorted away.

Howarth, an installer who co-owns a building company, was jailed for 14 weeks following the incident.

He has previous convictions including affray, racially-aggravated harassment, assaulting a police officer and failing to comply with court orders.

Mitigating, barrister William Staunton said Howarth was ‘peer pressured’ into having a drink because he was nervous of flying.

But Recorder Geoffrey Wells, rubbished those claims.

“This behaviour was shocking,” Wells said.

“There is no excuse for being drunk when you go on an airplane.

“Your children saw you behaving like that. What kind of example is that? Wholly disgraceful.

“‘Peer pressure?’. What nonsense.”

The Sun Online has reached out to Jet2 for comment.

I’m English football’s ultimate journeyman… Cilla Black once walked in on me naked in the dressing room

IT takes a lot to surprise a footballer who’s turned out for 24 different clubs across ten tiers of the English football pyramid.

But for veteran striker Leroy Lita, there is one day he’ll never forget.

Lita kicked off his career on the books of Chelsea’s academy and has turned out for the likes of Reading, Middlesbrough and Swansea, as well as a swathe of non-league teams.

Now at seventh tier Barwell, aged 40, Lita has opened up on some of his most hilarious stories from his decades-long playing career.

And topping the list? Cilla Black giving him the surprise, surprise of his life by walking in on him naked.

Lita told The Times: “My first experience [at Reading] was walking in with the chairman and Cilla Black.

“He walked past me like he didn’t know who I was, and he had just paid £1million out of his own pocket for me.

“It wasn’t out of the club budget. He didn’t even know what I looked like and my agent had to tell him.

“I was just shocked that he was with Cilla Black. I used to watch Blind Date and Surprise Surprise, and was like, ‘That’s her, isn’t it?!’

“She used to always come to our games and come into the changing room.

Talk about a Blind Date…

Cilla’s regular appearances at Reading come as no surprise, with then-owner John Madejski calling the former pop star and TV personality his “soulmate” after they enjoyed a long friendship.

The Blind Date host died in 2015 aged 72.

Lita – who scored six times in nine games for England‘s Under-21s – has racked up nearly 600 career games, scoring close to 200 goals in that spell.

However, his last stint in the English Football League came way back in the 2015-16 season, at League Two Yeovil.

Since then, Lita has enjoyed stints in Greece and Thailand, before returning home to embark on a journeyman non-league career.

Before joining Barwell last year, the striker turned out for Margate, Salisbury, Chelmsford City, Nuneaton Borough, Hednesford Town, Ilkestone Town and Coalville Town.

Popular US fast food giant to open 45 new restaurants in UK this year

A POPULAR US fast food chain has revealed plans to open 45 new restaurants in the UK this year.

Popeyes already opened 33 locations in the UK last year and it’s one of the fastest-growing chicken brands in the quick-service market.

Popeyes plans to open 45 new sites in the UK this year[/caption]

The fast-food joint, which is famous for its Louisiana-style chicken burgers and tenders, first came to the UK in 2021, opening a site in Westfield shopping centre in Stratford.

It now plans to expand its presence in cities including Birmingham, Leeds and Bristol as well as opening further locations in Manchester, Liverpool, London and Scotland.

Alongside opening dine-in restaurants, the brand said it has plans to open drive-thru locations and delivery kitchens, which will be just for takeaway orders.

It also wants to open spots for customers to grab food near train stations.

Tom Crowley, chief of Popeyes UK, said: “2025 is set to be another incredibly exciting year for Popeyes UK, building on the significant successes our team generated in 2024 as we ended the year with an annual sales run rate of £150m.”

It is one of many American brands looking to grow its presence on the UK high street, despite many restaurants and cafes struggling due to factors like rising costs.

Despite many households facing rising bills, they may still choose to treat themselves occasionally to a fast-food meal as it is an affordable treat and costs less than a high-end restaurant.

A report from Barclays showed spending on takeaways and fast food grew 2.8% last year.

This comes as Wingstop, which currently has 57 sites across the UK said today it would open 20 more sites.

The expansion plans come a month after Wingstop’s UK arm was taken over by a US private equity company for more than £400million.

US firm Sixth Street struck a deal to buy a majority stake in Wingstop UK’s master franchisee, with plans to grow the business further.

Wingstop UK said at least 10 new locations will open in the first half of the year.

These will include dine-in restaurants in SwanseaNewcastle, Lakeside shopping centre in Essex, Streatham in south London and Cardigan Fields in Leeds.

Elsewhere, popular American restaurants such as Carl’s Jr, Dave’s Hot Chicken, and Chick-fil-A also said they would grow their presence in the UK this year.

NEW OPENINGS ON UK HIGH STREET

And it is not only American brands that are looking to grow their presence in the UK.

Hotel Chocolat said it will open 25 new UK stores and hire 200 more people this year.

The company said it is planning 25 new stores, including what it describes as its “most expansive ever” outlet in Manchester in spring.

And it also plans to open two new stores as part of a US expansion plan.

The chocolate seller, which was bought by Mars last year, made 10% more in sales over the festive period in 2024 than the previous year.

Sephora will also continue its UK expansion in 2025 with the opening of a new Liverpool site in the spring.

The French makeup giant first launched in the UK all the way back in 2005, but pulled out due to strong competition from other brands.

It then made a second return in 2022, launching in Westfield Stratford.

The Liverpool opening will be the eighth for the brand, following recent launches in Birmingham and Bluewater in Kent.

US FAST FOOD COMING TO THE UK

Many US brands are planning to grow their presence in the UK this year.

Carl’s Jr said it would open its first site in the UK in April.

The site, which will cater to 50 customers at a time, is being launched by the Boparan Restaurant Group.

Posting on Reddit, one branded the fast food giant “better than most, including McDonald’s and Burger King“.

Another said: “The Western Bacon Cheeseburger is undefeated.”

Family entertainment and dining centre Chuck E Cheese is also reportedly planning to launch six branches across England and Scotland.

Dave’s Hot Chicken opened its first UK location late last year.

The brand, famed for its jumbo chicken slider, launched on London’s Shaftesbury Avenue back in November.

Tex-Mex brand Velvet Taco will also make its UK debut next spring.

Popeyes entered the UK market in 2021 and now has plans to open 45 new sites this year.

US burger chain Wendy’s, which already has 31 sites in the UK, will also cut the ribbon on eight new locations this year.

Chick-fil-A said it would open a number of sites across Britain this year.

The famous fried chicken brand revealed exclusively to The Sun in September that it would launch in Northern Ireland, Leeds, Liverpool, and London.

Its first location in Belfast will open inside an Applegreen service station in Lisburn, County Antrim, this Thursday.

The chain briefly touched down with a temporary pop-up in Reading back in 2019.

DWP update on ‘unfair’ benefit rules affecting thousands on Universal Credit after deductions found to be unlawful

THE Department for Work and Pensions has issued an update on a benefit rules that has been deemed unfair and unlawful.

A judge ruled that deducting unpaid rent from tenants’ Universal Credit payments automatically should not be allowed.

a woman is looking at a tablet that says universal credit on the screen
Alamy
Over 1.2million households, including 700,000 families with children currently have their payments reduced because of deductions[/caption]

The case was brought by Nathan Roberts, a law graduate, who found £500 missing from his Universal Credit after his landlord requested the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) deduct rent and alleged arrears.

Money can be deducted from a person’s Universal Credit to help them meet any rent or debt repayments.

The amounts are subtracted from a claimant’s standard allowance each month until the debt is fully repaid.

However, Roberts was already in a dispute with his landlord over repairs, and had an agreed move-out date.

He argued that the DWP should have consulted him before taking any money.

Mr Justice Fordham, presiding over the case, deemed this process unfair and unlawful, highlighting the lack of tenant safeguards.

He pointed out that the DWP’s automated system allowed landlords to deduct up to 20% of a tenant’s standard allowance without any checks with the tenant.

For example, if a claimant’s standard allowance is £364.74 (as was the case with Nathan Roberts), the maximum deduction for rent arrears would be £72.95 per month

This meant the DWP only heard the landlord’s side of the story, the judge said, potentially disadvantaging tenants, especially those withholding rent due to disrepair issues.

The judge stressed that even if a tenant successfully appealed the deduction, they could face months on reduced benefits before getting their money back.

Emma Varley, an associate at Bindmans said: “The DWP will now need to change the way it makes deductions of this type by ensuring that all Universal Credit claimants are given the opportunity to make representations prior to deductions from their benefit being made to their landlord.”

A spokesperson for the DWP added: “We are now carefully considering this judgment.

“Millions of people rely on our welfare system every year and it is vital that it can be accessed by all who need it.”

This case echoes a previous successful legal challenge against the DWP’s practice of automatically deducting money from benefits to pay utility bills without consent.

A separate legal challenge which took effect in April 2022 also upheld that those on Universal Credit must be asked to agree to any new deductions for ongoing energy costs through the Fuel Direct scheme.

However, it fell short in forcing the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to ask for a claimant’s consent if they are in debt with their utility firm.

Claimants are fully entitled to contact the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) at any time to stop any deductions.

The DWP said safeguards were in place to allow claimants to dispute deductions and ensure payments were “manageable” including the ability to submit an appeal, called a mandatory reconsideration.

It said people claiming Universal Credit were notified in advance, via their online account before third party deductions were applied, stating how to challenge them.

TYPES OF UNIVERSAL CREDIT DEDUCTIONS

There are a number of reasons why the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will deduct money from your Universal Credit allowance to help pay off any debts.

Conor Lawlor, benefits expert at Turn2us, says: “These debts can accrue in several ways, including for Universal Credit and other benefit overpayments (even if the overpayment was made in error by DWP), benefit advances and recovering hardship payments.

“The DWP can also deduct on behalf of third parties if a claimant is in debt to them, including for rent and service charge arrears, council tax arrears, court fines, child maintenance, and for utilities like electricity, gas and water.”

However, it’s important to note that not every deduction is compulsory, and some are voluntary.

What

Advance payments

These are loans to cover financial hardship during the five-week wait for the first payment. Repayments are deducted automatically and must be repaid within 6–24 months, depending on circumstances.

Budgeting advance

Interest-free loans for essential expenses like furniture or clothing. Borrowing limits depend on household type, and repayments are made over 12–18 months.

Overpayments

If you’re paid too much Universal Credit, deductions of up to 15–25% of your standard allowance are made based on your earnings.

Tax credit overpayments

Overpaid tax credits are recovered through Universal Credit deductions, and HMRC will notify you of the repayment details.

Fraud and sanctions

Giving false information or failing to report changes can result in penalties, reducing your standard allowance by up to 100% (single claimants) or 50% (joint claims).

Third-party deductions

Fixed amounts (5–20%) are taken to pay debts like rent arrears, child maintenance, or utility bills. Claimants can also request deductions for ongoing bills via schemes like Fuel Direct.

CHANGES ON THE WAY

Rachel Reeves is set to lower the cap on the maximum level of deductions that can be taken from a claimant’s benefit payments from April.

Currently, the DWP and third parties can typically deduct up to 25% of a claimant’s standard allowance to manage their debt repayments.

However, the government will reduce this cap to 15%.

The measure, dubbed the Fair Repayment Rate, is expected to come into force in April.

The change is projected to benefit 1.2 million households, including 700,000 families with children, boosting their incomes by up to £420 a year.

However, some Universal Credit claimants still have more than 25% of their standard allowance taken off if they pay what’s known as a “last resort deduction”.

Whether the new cap will apply to those with such deductions remains unclear.
