Wetherspoons to shake up drinks menu in days with new beer and prices start from £2.10

WETHERSPOONS is shaking up its drinks menu in days and rolling out a new beer across its boozers.

Jaipur will be on sale at all the pub chain’s more than 800 locations from April 9.

A pint glass of Jaipur India Pale Ale on a green coaster.

The tipple, first created in 2005 and brewed by Derbyshire-based Thornbridge, has an ABV of 5.9% so isn’t for the faint-hearted.

The beer comes with a citrus aroma and balanced, smooth finish.

Punters can already pick up the beer across selected Wetherspoons pubs but it will be rolled out across the whole pub estate from Wednesday.

The price of the pint will vary based on which Wetherspoons pub you go into, but we found it as cheap as £2.10 at one branch.

You can find out how much the beer costs in your local Spoons pub by using the app.

It is free to download onto a smartphone via Google Play or the Apple App Store.

It comes after Wetherspoons added 1664 Kronenbourg Bière to its draught beer line up.

Punters can pick up a pint for £3.20 every Monday through Spoons’ Monday Club deal, or £3.99 at other times.

Customers were quick to react online after finding out the classic beer was being added to menus.

One said: “Great stuff. I miss 1664 being on tap. You can’t get it anywhere now round my way.”

Another said: “Lovely lager is 1664.”

Meanwhile, a third commented: “A good move IMO (in my opinion). Kronenbourg’s a good lager.”

Spoons also recently made a change to its food menu by introducing a £2.99 breakfast deal at 650 pubs.

Customers can now choose from a breakfast muffin or small breakfast with soft or hot drink from 8am to midday, with veggie options available.

Meanwhile, tea and toast, which comes with two slices and either jam or marmalade, costs £2.49.

WETHERSPOONS HIKES PRICES

The Sun exclusively revealed in January Spoons had upped the price of a host of popular drinks and menu items across its pubs.

The chain bumped up prices on drinks by 15p while meal deals were increased by 30p.

The price rises saw the cost of a Guinness at the London and South Western branch in south west London go from £4.66 to £4.81.

Meanwhile, the price of a Strongbow increased from £3.24 to £3.39.

The average price of a meal deal at Spoons without an alcoholic drink was £4.99 and with a drink was £6.52 before the change.

But the 30p rise means they now cost £5.29 and £6.82, respectively.

Spoons said a number of drinks had not gone up in price, including all draught lagers such as Budweiser, Carling and Coors.

Full list of drinks not rising in price

Britney Spears sparks fresh concern with strange voice in bizarre new video

BRITNEY Spears left fans concerned after she shared a new video – but fans were left questioning her very strange voice.

The pop star, 43, showed her fans her “real nails” for the first time in years.

Britney fans raced to social media platforms to share their concern for the star[/caption]

She was also proud of the growth of one particular nail on her left little finger as she unveiled her varnish chipped nails.

The Toxic hitmaker told fans in a high pitched voice: “They’re so little, it’s weird but I have uh, a little bitty pinky nail.

“I haven’t had nails since I was like, in the seventh grade!”

Britney then appeared to slip into something of a British accent as she continued: “I am like freaking out! They’re really, really tiny, but still…”

In the caption, she wrote: “Haven’t had real nails since 7th grade, no lie!!! I’m proud.”

Many fans took to reddit to express their concern for the star.

One wrote: “Someone get this poor girl some help.”

A second posted: “Good grief. This is ridiculous. She’s not even saying words at this point. She needs at least one sane person around her at all times. She has zero grip on reality at this point.”

A third said: “I hope someone is checking in on her.”

Another questioned her voice, writing: “She’s once again doing the bull**** baby voice with a ‘British’ accent.”

In February, The Sun revealed that the director of Britney’s new biopic had already warned fans of a “long road ahead”.

Now insiders have said Jon M. Chu’s sentiment could be born out of the fact the singer has been struggling to make up her mind about what they will and won’t cover.

Universal won the bidding war to the rights for the film, which is based on Britney’s autobiography, called The Woman In Me.

But sources said Britney was “changing her mind like the wind” when it came down to the storyboarding.

An insider said: “Britney’s biopic is in the early stages of development and there have been a lot of ideas bandied around.

“As soon as it feels like they’re moving in one direction though, Britney will take it in another.

“Her manager is an executive producer on the film and is doing his best to put those ideas across, but it feels like it’s an ever-changing project at the moment with no clear direction.”

We first revealed plans for the biopic in October 2023, with Jon coming on board last year.

Jon said: “I want to do her justice and tell her story right. But we’ll see.

“We’re developing it now and it’s a long road ahead.

“She represents a generation of people growing up in the 2000s and late Nineties, and she has a story that deserves to be told properly.

“There’s a lot about us in it.

“In this initial conception, I think it’s a lot about how we treat people, young people, stars that we think we own, women, mothers.

“There’s a lot of things in there that I would love to explore.”

I visited ‘world’s most incestuous town’ to track down infamous family where inbred siblings faced unimaginable horrors

THE Colt family name sends shivers down the spines of locals in a remote Australian town – and anyone asking questions faces their wrath.

Australian influencer Jamie Zhu found out for himself after visiting Boorawa in New South Wales to hunt for the world’s most inbred family.

He was visiting the town to look for the world’s most inbred family[/caption]

Within minutes of arriving in the town, which has a population of 1,800, the social media star was chased out by furious locals after being reported to the police.

Jamie, who has almost 900,000 subscribers to his YouTube page, told The Sun: “It was a very small town, so it’s almost like everyone knows each other.”

Four generations of twisted inbreeding went unnoticed for decades until authorities busted the clan’s isolated camp in 2012.

Unimaginable horrors were uncovered, and the sickening stories of the 38-strong brood’s life of incest, neglect, and paedophilia shocked the world.

Images showed paper-thin mattresses inside tents and old sheds, and caravans where the Colt family lived.

Their names have all been changed to protect the identity of the victims.

The children – found filthy, malnourished, and barely able to speak – did not know how to brush their teeth or use toilet paper.

Perverted patriarch Tim Colt ran an “incest” farm where he raped his daughters, fathered their children and encouraged his sons to do the same.

He and his sister June, also a product of incest, shared seven kids – Martha, Frank, Paula, Cherry, Rhonda, Betty, and Charlie.

The women gave birth to their own children – likely fathered by their dad and brothers – adding more members to the barbarous brood.

Tim allegedly parented his daughter Betty’s 13 children, four of Rhonda’s offspring, and even his granddaughter Raylene’s child, Kimberly.

Dark roots

The monster moved to Australia from New Zealand in 1970 after marrying sister June.

It was here that he headed up the clan, who were forced to live in squalor and poverty.

The campsite spread out into the outback, with sheds and caravans, and no running water or toilets.

By the time the family’s revolting and remote camp was busted in 2012, Tim and June were long dead, and the family was headed by their daughter Betty.

To avoid detection, the clan had moved several times – but had been settled just outside of Boorowa for several years when their depraved way of life was uncovered.

Eight family members faced various charges of incest, child sex abuse and aggravated assault, with several trials taking place.

Content creator Jamie, 31, decided to visit the town to see if he could find out more about the family.

He said: “What the team and I like to do is investigate certain situations, especially in Australia, ranging from social issues to just news stories that we see.

“So we decided to go down and just kind of investigate what actually happened.

“We wanted to see if there were still victims there from that particular family and what impact it may have had on them.

“I think this sort of issue may happen to more people than we think which never gets spoken about.

“So we sort of wanted to raise some awareness for the people down there.”

The ten-minute video shared with Jamie’s 892,000 subscribers on YouTube shows the influencer stopping people in the street to ask them about the Colt brood.

Most had little to say to Jamie and his videographer Nick – but one woman in a cafe revealed her children went to school with some of the clan.

“They just lived in caravans,” she said.

Another woman in the neighbouring shop then agreed to lead Jamie to the “Colt house”.

But in an apparent misunderstanding, she walked the influencer to the local courthouse instead.

She then claimed she was taking Jamie and Nick to the local police station to speak to an officer about the family.

Jamie said what happened next was “something out of a horror movie” as after more than an hour of waiting outside the station, the woman became incensed.

“Turn the camera off now, just f***ing turn it off,” she warned.

“I’m p***ed off. What do you know about the family?”

Jamie told her he didn’t know much and didn’t know where the children were now but asked if she knew where any Colt family members could be.

She fumed: “F**k me. Do you think I would honestly tell you if I knew where they were?

“Do you think I would be that f**king stupid, decrepit to tell you?

The woman then demanded the cops be called before the pair jumped into their car and fled.

But when Nick and Jamie made a stop, Jamie’s mum called to warn them she’d been contacted by the police as they were using her car.

Panicked-looking Jamie later got a call from the police, but was relieved when the officer said he hadn’t done anything wrong.

Jamie told The Sun most people he encountered in the town were friendly – and believes the woman who became furious misunderstood why he was there.

He said: “She started telling all the people in the town that we were doing something bad, which we weren’t.

“And then one thing led to another, and we had to drive off and leave.”

While most people Jamie spoke to claimed not to have heard of the Colt family, he sensed the town carried the weight of its history.

“It was a mixed bag. I think everyone sort of knew about it,” he said.

“But I did sort of realise after some time that they did carry a bit of shame around the subject as well.”

After the clan was busted, the name “Colt” was given to them as a pseudonym by the courts and government agencies.

Their first names have also been changed.

Police launched an investigation after a descendant of the Colt clan was overheard by a fellow pupil discussing the fact her sister was pregnant.

The girl, who rarely went to school like the other Colt children, revealed she did not know which of her brothers was the father.

Cops raided their camp and found the family living in squalor without running water or toilets inside run-down caravans and shabby tents.

They were ridden with chronic hearing, sight and dental issues, while one of the young girls was described as having “dysmorphic” features.

Psychological assessments disturbingly revealed the kids engaged in “inappropriate sexual conduct” with one another.

Many of them have now reached adulthood and have shown marked improvement in personal hygiene and health – but they are still overshadowed by deprivations from their childhood.

Some have low-slung ears or misaligned eyes as a result of inbreeding and they look decades older than their calendar age.

Jamie believes the locals are protective of the victims, especially the younger ones who have been placed in care.

At least 38 members of the family lived together[/caption]

But he said anyone visiting the area would not realise its secret.

“It was a little bit eerie for us just from that knowledge of what happened,” he said.

“But all in all, if you look at the town itself without having any kind of background history of it, you’d think it was just a normal country town where normal people would just live every day as the rest of us do.

“It was disappointing [when we were forced to leave] because we didn’t come to the town with any bad intent.

“We didn’t mean to offend anyone.”

Brother and sister Martha and Charlie, who openly shared a “marital bed”, were the first to be detained after authorities found out about the Colts.

Their siblings Rhonda and Frank, Betty’s children Derek and Raylene, as well as Frank’s son Cliff were then arrested.

All of the Colt children were removed and placed in care, as a horrified court ruled there was “no realistic possibility of restoration of any of the children to their biological family”.

I realised they [the locals] carry a bit of shame around the subject.

Jamie Zhu

Three of the late Tim Colt’s daughters have been dragged through court trials, assaulted in prison, and ostracised in communities due to their inbred children.

In one Colt trial, Tim Colt’s son Roderick was found guilty of raping his niece, who was also his half-sister.

The victim, Petra, was the biological child of Tim and Betty and was also attacked by her uncle Frank in the back seat of his car during a visit to the family farm in February 2010, for which he was convicted.

Betty was given 14 months in jail after being convicted of four counts of perjury, one of lying under oath and perverting the course of justice.

She later received another 12-month sentence after trying to kidnap two of her sons from their foster parents.

Betty was also forbidden from contacting other Colt family members after she attempted to get in touch with them via Facebook.

Rhonda received a 14-month intensive corrections order which expired in August 2021, according to reports.

Raylene was sentenced to a 16-month ICO for perjury while her brother Derek received a maximum of three years and ten months for incest in 2020.

Charlie Colt – who originally faced 27 charges – was found not guilty on two charges and acquitted, with the balance being withdrawn.

Of the original 80 charges originally levelled against eight Colts – including incest, child sexual abuse, indecency against a child and perjury – many were dropped.

The Law on Incest in the UK

INCEST refers to sexual activity between close family members, such as siblings, parents and children, or grandparents and grandchildren.

  • Criminal Offence: Engaging in sexual activity with a close family member is illegal.
  • Close Family Members: Includes siblings (full or half), parents, children, grandparents, and grandchildren.
  • Penalties: Those found guilty of incest can face significant legal consequences, including imprisonment.
  • Protection and Welfare: The law aims to protect individuals and maintain the integrity of family relationships.
  • Consent Irrelevant: Even if both parties consent, it is still considered a criminal offence.

Chelsea player ratings: Dewsbury-Hall and Nkunku woeful in Brentford bore draw with Neto best of a bad bunch

CHELSEA played out a goalless draw at Brentford and failed to establish some safe distance from sixth place.

A victory would have seen the Blues getting four points ahead of Aston Villa, who are still pushing for a late top-five finish in the Premier League.

A win would have also seen the West Londoners climbing up to just two points away from third-placed Nottingham Forest.

However, a litany of mistakes at the back and a failure to take on their chances led to a 0-0 draw with the Bees at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Brentford could have snatched the win if it wasn’t for their own inability to finish against Chelsea, who are spoiled for choice when choosing the player with the most diappointing performance.

However, that’s not the case when it comes to the standout performer…

But how exactly did Chelsea’s players fare against Brentford? Check out Kostas Lianos’ player ratings below and find out:

Robert Sanchez – 5

Some nervy reactions when the ball was on his feet in the first half as he gave it away twice to Brentford. Was especially lucky when Mikkel Damsgaard tripped when inside the area and wasted a massive opportunity that Robert Sanchez created by giving the ball away.

Much better in the second half where he made some key saves and denied a dangerous shot by Bryan Mbeumo.

Illustration of Robert Sánchez's soccer stats: 49 touches, 2 saves, 40 passes, 22 accurate passes, 0 crosses caught, 2 clearances.

Malo Gusto – 3

Was booked early for carelessly and needlesly pushing Kevin Schade in the first half that awarded Brentford a free-kick in a dangerous position. Improved defensively in the second half but didn’t bring anything extra when moving forward.

Illustration of Malo Gusto's soccer stats: 61 touches, 1 shot, 43 passes, 37 accurate passes, 7 duels lost, 3 duels won.

Trevoh Chalobah – 4

Gave the ball away early in the match with a poor header that almost led to a Brentford goal. Some heavy touches throughout the first half but better in the second half.

Illustration of Trevoh Chalobah's match statistics: touches, shots, passes, accurate passes, duels lost, and duels won, shown on a heatmap of his position on the field.

Tosin Adarabioyo – 4

Came close to breaking the deadlock in the first few seconds of the match with his stretched leg but couldn’t quite meet Reece James’ free-kick. Had another chance to score from a great position during stoppage time but his header was too poor.

Was booked for an awful challenge on Yehor Yarmolyuk as he stepped on his ankle but thankfully inspired more safety at the back in the second half.

Illustration of Tosin Adarabioyo's soccer stats: 69 touches, 1 shot, 57 passes (53 accurate), 3 duels lost, 4 duels won.

Reece James – 3

Struggled against Mbeumo down the right flank in the first half, he carelessly tried to clear in the first half but gave the ball away to the Brentford forward who almost broke the deadlock with a fine shot.

Met a pinpoint cross from Pedro Neto with a fine header but was denied by Mark Flekken. Generally didn’t hold his ground and made several errors, far from his best after his injury hell.

Reece James game statistics: touches, shots, passes, accurate passes, duels lost, and duels won.

Moises Caicedo – 5

Lost Sepp van den Berg in the final 10 minutes that could have led to a goal by Brentford only for the defender to muck it up despite being completely unmarked in front of Sanchez.

Didn’t do enough to help break through the Bees’ defence.

Illustration of Moisés Caicedo's soccer stats: 79 touches, 0 shots, 62 passes, 55 accurate passes, 1 dribble, and 1 foul.

Enzo Fernandez – 5

Was livelier in the second half with a stunning ball that released Nicolas Jackson and created danger in Brentford’s area.

Was booked for a rough challenge on Mbeumo towards the end when he and Chelsea were running out of ideas as he had two awful shots in the closing stages of the match.

Illustration of Enzo Fernández's soccer stats: 65 touches, 4 shots, 48 passes, 40 accurate passes, 0 dribbles, and 2 fouls.

Noni Madueke – 3

Had Chelsea’s first shot on target in the first half but didn’t worry Flekken. Barely made his presence known down the wing like we all know he can and was correctly hauled off.

Illustration of Noni Madueke's soccer game stats: 28 touches, 1 shot, 19 passes, 17 accurate passes, 0 dribbles, 0 fouls.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 2

Very anonymous performance. Failed to follow up after Christopher Nkunku dispossessed Van den Berg down Chelsea’s attacking third, a deflection took place that would have allowed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to create immense danger.

Made up with a fantastic through ball for Jadon Sancho that almost caused a Brentford own-goal, but that wasn’t nearly enough to guarantee more rare opportunities to start ahead of Cole Palmer.

Illustration of Kieran Dewsbury-Hall's match stats: 32 touches, 0 shots, 23 passes, 19 accurate passes, 3 tackles, and 2 fouls. Heatmap shows his position on the field.

Jadon Sancho – 3

Came close to forcing a Brentford own-goal in the first half when his lethal low cross saw Nathan Collins’s stretched leg almost sending the ball behind Flekken’s net. But didn’t really improve after that and his performances are still well behind from his Borussia Dortmund best.

Jadon Sancho's game statistics: touches, passes, accurate passes, dribbles, shot, and lost possession, shown on a soccer field graphic.

Christopher Nkunku – 2

Had two chances in the first half but failed to make the most of them. Was especially poor when Malo Gusto set him up for a finish inside the Brentford area.

A rather anonymous performance other than that before his substitution at half-time that really raises questions about his Stamford Bridge future – didn’t take advantage of his rare opportunity to start ahead of Jackson.

Illustration of Christopher Nkunku's game statistics: 22 touches, 1 shot, 14 passes, 14 accurate passes, 1 dribble, 0 fouls.

SUBS

Nicolas Jackson – 5

Much livelier up front than Christopher Nkunku as he had a chance early in the second half after a stunning ball by Enzo Fernandez and just missed the target before almost causing a Van den Berg own-goal. But that was the most he could do during the second half.

Cole Palmer – 6

Among many Chelsea substitutions that sparked life into the visitors. Had a brilliant curling shot that just missed the target, but wasn’;t at his best – something that continues to expose Chelsea’s reliance on his performances.

Pedro Neto – 6

Had two fantastic shots on target shortly after his introduction from the bench. Very lively and vibrant at the beginning, but just like his other fellow substitutes, he quickly went quieter – just stands out as best of the worst.

Marc Cucurella – 5

Barely played 15 minutes and failed to bring anything significant when moving forward – pretty decent in defence.

Taxpayers funded my £21k car – it only cost me a £1k & I’m trolled by jealous working people but it’s not my problem

[/boxout]

But her total benefits actually total significantly more – £3,100 or £37,200 annually – because they include free school meals, prescriptions and her cut-price car.

She was awarded the car in January 2022  and chose her specific one because it’s “iconic”.

“It includes automatic high-beam adjustment, rear passenger seat ventilation, heated door mirrors, 19-inch alloys, front and rear parking sensors, and rear parking camera as well as a seven-inch infotainment screen offering touchscreen display and connectivity options such as Bluetooth, app accessibility and USB,” she says. “It also includes a DAB radio. “I wanted the best for my kids and a car which was easy to drive.

Trolled by ‘jealous working mums’

“The kids love the car, and it makes shopping so much easier.”

As well as not paying for the car, Chelsea doesn’t have to “fork out for insurance or repairs.” She continues: “It means I can focus on the kids, not the car.”

Chelsea, who has been trolled by “jealous working mums” says the car is a big reason she’s “not going back to work anytime soon.”

“People might slam me but I won’t be criticised for driving a car most working Brits can’t afford,” she says. “I was allowed to apply for it and, yes, I got it.

“Working people with disabilities can do the same. I understand why some people might be annoyed but I urge them to research the scheme and understand why it is there and who can apply.

How to claim Child Benefit

Child benefit is worth up to £1,331 a year for your first or only child and up to £881 a year for additional children.

This works out at £102.40 every four weeks or £25.60 a week for your first child and £67.80 every 4 weeks or £16.95 a week for their siblings.

There is no limit on the number of children that can be claimed for.

Applying is straightforward and can be done in minutes at gov.uk or through the HMRC app.

Parents with a newborn baby should make a claim online as soon as possible and could then receive their first payment in as little as three days.

You can also backdate claims for up to three months.

Parents can make a claim and then choose to opt out of receiving Child Benefit payments can still receive National Insurance credits if one parent is not working.

National Insurance credits build up your entitlement to the state pension.

“I am planning to get an even posher one when I upgrade. I am due an upgrade this year.

“Under the scheme the car cannot be any older than three years old. So after the car is three years old you get a new one for the next three years.”

She also thinks Motability vehicles should be available to all single mums on Universal Credit – despite the extortionate impact this would have on Britain’s already bloated budget.

“Many single mums have no transport and cannot juggle two or three kids on public transport,” she says. “Cars for single parents on Universal Credit would mean less isolation, less depression and anxiety and encourage mums and dads to have easy access to job interviews.

“I won’t have anyone complain I shouldn’t have one. I will not give it up. It’s my right. The car has been a lifeline. For many people buying a new car often comes after months of savings and involves expensive loans.

Sick of ‘benefits trolls’

“People on Universal Credit don’t have the expendable income to save for a car or to fund the loan repayments.

“A car under £1,000 would require a lot more repairs and cause claimants to fall deeper into debt.

“The cheap deals are available to those who work but can claim PIP too. I refuse to be taken down by the benefits trolls. They’re just jealous of my car.

“No one is stopping you from applying for a freebie car if you or one of your family qualifies.

“It’s not my job to keep other people happy or balance the government’s budget.”

Chelsea’s case is not unique. In the past six years the number of people claiming either PIP (PIP) or Disability Living Allowance (DLA) has risen by 194%. 1.3 million people or 44 per cent of all claimants suffered mental health or behavioural conditions as their primary reason for claiming disability benefits.

And almost 815,000 Brits are benefiting from the Motability Scheme.

“The fact I can get a car is actually helping the British economy,” says Chelsea. “I looked it up. The Motability scheme helps the car industry because one in four cars on the road are from the scheme. Without it and my car the economy would suffer.

“I do not know why people are moaning.”

The scheme allows drivers access to a range of vehicles including a Fiat 500 to a Land Rover or a high end Tesla

Could it be the end of the road for Motability?

By Martina Bet

MOTABILITY allows people with serious disabilities to lease a car using their benefits.

Customer numbers have surged 30 per cent in five years, with many joining for non-physical conditions such as anxiety, depression and ADHD.

But the firm’s tracking systems have uncovered late-night runs and non-disabled relatives regularly using the vehicles.

Motability said it will now review how many people can use each vehicle — currently set at three to allow for carers.

Chief executive Andrew Miller warned tougher checks are coming.

He added: “Are we perhaps being too generous on the insurance criteria?

“We’re having to look at that quite heavily at the moment.”

Around 815,000 people now use the Motability scheme, with more than 700,000 vehicles on the road.

“If I had to work there is no way I could make almost £2,500 net a month, especially working around my children’s school schedules,” says Chelsea. “The jobs are not there. I would have to pay full council tax, pay for prescriptions and lose a raft of other discounts. I cannot work because I would be worse off financially and end up back on benefits.

“It doesn’t make me work shy or lazy, it’s a simple maths equation. Labelling me a scrounger is wrong because I won’t work. I am not broken. I am simply outspoken and brazen about stating the reality of life.

“The government has created a system which permits people to get financial aid, the cost of living means people are spending less on services like hairdressers and the jobs are not out there.

“I am a grafter. I have to be as I look after three kids day and night. It’s a full-time job. But I am just not daft. It’s more financially viable for me to be on benefits. Better solutions are needed and labelling people lazy isn’t one of them.

“I am dead sick of people telling me not to be a single mum or have kids so young.

“It’s no one’s business and I won’t work until I can be assured the work will earn me more than Universal Credit.

“As to Motability Scheme haters they can p*** off. My posh wheels are staying. I need my car.”

Another supermarket chain slashing price of Easter Sunday dinner essentials to 15p

ANOTHER major supermarket is set to slash the price of its Easter Sunday essentials including carrots and broccoli.

Budget supermarkets often cut the price of vegetables around Christmas or Easter to draw in customers.

Aldi is slashing the price of vegetables from April 15

This year is no different, with Lidl set to cut prices on a host of veggies to 15p from April 15.

Now Aldi has joined the price war, offering its “Super Six” veggies with up to 89% off.

From April 15 to 19, or April 20 across Scottish branches, customers can get their hands on two kilos of potatoes for 15p.

One kilo bags of carrots, broccoli, 100g spring onions and loose garlic will also be 15p over the four-day window.

Shoppers can also pick up cucumbers for 59p each.

It’s worth keeping an eye out ahead of Easter to see if any other retailers announce price cuts to their veggies.

Meanwhile, some retailers may cut the price of other Easter Sunday essentials like lamb.

This year’s Easter deals come as grocery price inflation edges up.

Supermarket prices are now 3.5% higher than a year ago, up from 3.3% in February, according to analysts Kantar.

Meanwhile, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) is predicting food prices will rise by 4.2% in the second half of the year.

Helen Dickinson, chief executive officer, said there was “little hope of prices going anywhere but up” due to rising employer National Insurance contributions and the national minimum wage.

She added: “Modelling by the BRC and retail chief financial officers suggest food prices will rise by an average of 4.2% in the latter half of the year, while non-food will return firmly to inflation.”

How to save money at Aldi

Which? crowned Aldi the cheapest supermarket for a basket of 79 essential goods in March, but there are ways to save even more.

Like other supermarkets, the discounter adds coloured stickers to products that are damaged or misshapen, or coming to the end of their best before date.

But, unlike other supermarkets, it uses red stickers instead of the typical yellow.

When reductions are made on products varies from branch to branch, but typically red stickers appear on items at the end of the day.

Aldi discounts perishable items including bread, meat, fruit and vegetables by up to 75% on their last day of shelf life just before the store closes.

It also offers 30% off on food that can be stored at room temperature like cereal, tinned foods and pasta, if packaging is damaged.

Aldi shoppers can pick up Too Good to Go bags of fresh food worth £10 for £3.30 too.

You can pick them up in stores but there are only a limited amount each day.

Aldi offers cheap fruit and veg as part of its Everyday Essentials range too, including discounted wonky bundles.

How to save money on chocolate

We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don't have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.

Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…

Go own brand – if you’re not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you’ll save by going for the supermarket’s own brand bars.

Shop around – if you’ve spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.

Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.

Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they’ve been reduced.

They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.

Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.

So if you’ve got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.

You can grab a wonky 1.5kg bag of carrots for 60p and a pack of wonky grapes for £1.49 in branches.

Keep an eye on the middle aisle shelves of your local Aldi branch as well – the discounter is often flogging quirky and discounted stuff there.
