Chelsea risk BAN from Europe after breaking Uefa’s strict financial rules despite internal £200m sale of women’s team

CHELSEA risk being banned from Europe after breaking Uefa’s financial rules, according to reports.

The Blues recently sold their women’s team for a world-record £200million.

Chelsea have made big losses over the last three years[/caption]

Due to Chelsea Women being flogged to sister company Blueco 22 Midco Ltd, however, Uefa do not recognise the £200m from the sale as revenue.

Uefa rules dictate that clubs within its jurisdiction cannot make a loss of more than £170m over three seasons.

Deducting money raised through sales to their sister company, Chelsea’s losses over the last three years are set to total £358m – although cash spent on the women’s team, academy and infrastructure could yet be deducted from the total.

According to The Times, Blues chiefs have entered talks with Uefa over reaching a settlement.

The two parties could agree upon a “sustainability” plan in order to ensure that Chelsea comply with financial rules in future.

Todd Boehly and Co are said to be “relaxed” regarding the situation, largely owing to their positive relationship with Uefa.

Should the Blues break Uefa’s financial rules again in future, however, they would risk being banned from European competitions.

While finding themselves in hot water with Uefa, Chelsea are fine when it comes to the Premier League’s financial rules.

Unlike Uefa, Prem clubs are allowed to declare sales to sister companies as income generated.

Last summer the “loophole” was subject to a vote by Prem clubs, who opted against closing it.

Chelsea last week announced £468.5m revenue for the financial year ending June 30, 2024.

This was down from £512.5m the previous year, owing to their absence from Europe last season.

The Blues went into this weekend fourth in the Premier League with eight games remaining.

Enzo Maresca‘s side are aiming to return to the Champions League following a two-year absence.

The Blues are set to earn handsomely from their participation in the Club World Cup this summer.

Uefa have confirmed that the winners of the competition stand to earn nearly £100m in prize money, while the Blues could earn as much as £68m for just winning their three group matches.

Legendary jockey Hayley Turner, 42, retires with immediate effect as she announces she’s pregnant

LEGENDARY jockey Hayley Turner has announced she is retiring with immediate effect – as she is pregnant with her first baby.

Racing’s ‘golden girl’, 42, has decided to end her 25-year career in the saddle – after previously calling it quits in November 2015.

ITV racing viewers will know Turner as a popular pundit on their coverage as well as a top-class jocket[/caption]

Turner’s retirement was short-lived as she returned in 2018.

The Group 1-winning rider, who raced on the Flat and enjoyed four Royal Ascot winners, said in a statement: “I have decided to retire from being a jockey following my winner at Southwell last week especially as I had my first ride at the racecourse on 27 March, 2000.

“I am very excited to also announce that I am having a baby in October, all being well, which I have been planning for the last two years.

“My family and I are all very excited.

“I would like to thank everyone that has supported me over the years especially Michael Bell, David Simcock, Andrew Balding and Harry Eustace.

“I would also like to thank my riding agent, Guy Jewell, who has been my agent for the majority of my career.

“I am looking forward to my next life chapter but will be focusing on the baby in the short term.”

Turner was a true trailblazer in the saddle and in 2008 became the first woman to ride 100 UK Flat race winners during a calendar year.

Just three years earlier she had been crowned joint-Champion Apprentice – a pathway to superstardom in the sport.

That talent was realised in 2011 when Turned landed her first Group 1 in the July Cup at Newmarket on Dream Ahead.

She then won the prestigious Nunthorpe Stakes at York on 20-1 outsider Margot Did.

More top level success followed over the years with her last big win being a Listed victory on Sea Of Roses at Windsor in August last year.

However, her career was not completely scandal-free.

In December 2017 she was brought before a British Horseracing Authority panel and banned for three months for breaking betting rules.

Technically, Turner still held a jockey licence at the time she was placing bets – a breach of rules.

She bounced back from that lowpoint with a glut of winners and icon status at her beloved Shergar Cup at Ascot.

Sun Racing columnist Matt Chapman was among those paying tribute to Turner.

He wrote: “Huge news@Hayleyturner123 has retired and is having a baby. A class act. Grade 1 heroine. Go well Turner girl, go well.”

From zombie worlds and monster black holes to terrifying space tornados – Nasa’s ‘galaxy of horrors’ revealed

VISIONS of leaving Earth and launching humanity further into the cosmos are enough to get anyone starry-eyed.

But the universe is full of mind-blowingly destructive forces and creepy celestial objects that are enough to spook even the folks at Nasa.

The US space agency has outlined some of the most terrifying cosmic curiosities in the universe – dubbed its ‘galaxy of horrors’.

Zombie worlds

Zombie worlds like planets Poltergeist, Phobetor and Draugr are inhospitable worlds that have been showered with intense pulses of radiation from a nearby dead star.

According to Nasa, “these doomed worlds were among the first [exoplanets] to be discovered as they orbit an undead star known as a pulsar.

“Pulsar planets like Poltergeist and neighbors Phobetor and Draugr are consumed with constant radiation.”

This trio of doomed worlds lies roughly 2,300 light-years away in the constellation Virgo.

Dark energy

Dark energy is the latest addition to the contents of the universe – and actually makes up a massive 70% of the cosmos, scientists believe.

“An unseen power is prowling throughout the cosmos, driving the universe to expand at a quickening rate,” says Nasa.

“This relentless pressure, called dark energy, is nothing like dark matter, that mysterious material only revealed by its gravitational pull.”

Monster black holes

Also known as supermassive black holes, these cosmic monsters can be millions to billions of times more massive than our Sun.

They are typically found at the centres of most large galaxies – including our Milky Way.

“Lurking in our galaxy, approximately 6,000 light-years from Earth, is a monster black hole named Cygnus X-1,” Nasa explains.

“Don’t get too close, or you’ll become its next meal!”

CygnusX-1 spans 700 light-years across. For context, it takes about 27,000 years to travel one light-year.

In panel 1, a pair of neutron stars in a binary system spiral together. Orbital momentum is dissipated through the release of gravity waves, which are tiny ripples in the fabric of space-time. In panel 2, in the final milliseconds, the two objects merge and produce a gamma-ray burst lasting just one-tenth of a second. In panel 3, a small fraction of the mass of the merging neutron stars is flung out during the merger. This hot, highly radioactive material expands and its outer layer thins enough for infrared light to escape. At its peak brightness (within a week and a half of the merger) the explosion is about a thousand times brighter than a classical nova and so is called a kilonova. Gamma ray ghouls

Gamma-ray bursts could wipe out all life on Earth, though they are fortunately unlikely to hit us.

As Nasa explains: “In the depths of the universe, the cores of two collapsed stars violently merge to release a burst of the deadliest and most powerful form of light — gamma rays.

“These beams are unleashed and shine a million trillion times brighter than the Sun.”

These cosmic explosions are so powerful they can sterilise entire planets – or even vaporise them.

The NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope observed Herbig-Haro 49/50, an outflow from a nearby still-forming star, in high-resolution near- and mid-infrared light with the NIRCam and MIRI instruments. The intricate features of the outflow, represented in reddish-orange color, provide detailed clues about how young stars form and how their jet activity affects the environment around them. A chance alignment in this direction of the sky provides a beautiful juxtaposition of this nearby Herbig-Haro object (located within our Milky Way) with a more distant, face-on spiral galaxy in the background. Protostars are young stars in the process of formation that generally launch narrow jets of material. These jets move through the surrounding environment, in some cases extending to large distances away from the protostar. Like the water wake generated by a speeding boat, the arcs in this image are created by the fast-moving jet slamming into surrounding dust and gas. This ambient material is compressed and heats up, then cools by emitting light at visible and infrared wavelengths. In particular, the infrared light captured here by Webb highlights molecular hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The galaxy that appears by happenstance at the tip of Herbig-Haro 49/50 is a much more distant spiral galaxy. It has a prominent central bulge represented in blue that shows the location of older stars. It also displays hints of “side lobes,” suggesting that this could be a barred-spiral galaxy. Reddish clumps within the spiral arms show the locations of warm dust and groups of forming stars. In the image background there are many more galaxies at further distances, including galaxies that shine through the diffuse infrared glow of the nearby Herbig-Haro object. [Image description: Angled from the upper left corner to the lower right corner of the image is a conical shaped orange-red cloud known at Herbig-Haro 49/50. This feature takes up about three-fourths of the length of this angle. T

Space tornadoes

Nasa has recently observed so-called ‘space tornadoes’ in unprecedented detail with its $10billion James Webb Space Telescope.

This natural wonder occurred 625 light-years away in a corner of space that is bustling with newly born stars.

The ‘tornadoes’ are actually the giant plumes of plasma that pour out of stars as they’re born reaching dense areas of dust and gas in space.

‘I’ve got blisters just looking at them!’ shoppers groan as Primark revisits 90s trend with £7 buy

YOU couldn’t go to a beach in the 1990s without seeing at least one pair of them.

But there’s a reason that the jelly sandal lost favour with fashion fans – namely due to the stiff plastic leading to sweaty feet and blisters.

But people were divided as to whether they wanted to try the shoes or not
Primark

Primark seems to have forgotten that fact, though, and is attempting to revisit the trend with a new arrival.

One shopper took to TikTok to share her delight after finding a pair of sparkly, clear plastic jelly shoes in her local Primark, as she urged “millennials assemble”.

“Look what I’ve just found in Primark!” Katie said, as she delightedly modelled the £7 shoes in the mirror.

She then said she was off to look for some different colours in the footwear.

But the comments section was almost immediately filled with people debating whether or not they could suffer through the trend again – or if it should stay in the past where it belongs.

“I’ve got blisters just looking at them,” one sighed.

“I’d put the pain they cause in a dark box in my head and locked it away! thanks for unlocking the fear,” another added.

“Oooh…. I feel the blisters from just looking at them,” a third commented.

“Flashbacks to the 80’s seeing these – sweaty, blistered feet,” someone else winced.

“Noooooo! I can feel the stone wedged underneath and poking my foot!” another giggled.

“THE BLISTERS. THE ME SLIPPING BECAUSE OF THE FOOT SWEAT. I CAN NOT RE LIVE THIS!” someone else yelled.

However, others were more on board with the idea of jelly shoes returning to stores.

“Take my money!” one insisted.

“Omg they’re back,” another added, alongside heart eye emojis.

“Omg yes, I had 3 pairs back in the days lol!” a third said.

“These gave me blisters for days but you know what I’ll be buying a pair for nostalgia,” someone else said.

Fashion editor reveals the 90s trends that should stay in the past

NINETIES and noughties trends especially have become a hit with Gen Z - most likely because they didn’t wear them the first time round. Here, Deputy Fashion Editor Abby McHale gives the rundown of some of the trends that have made a comeback that we wish did not.

Disc belts

“A hit with celebrities like Victoria Beckham and Blake Lively, the belt itself did nothing that a belt should actually do – it was a mere fashion statement, not a piece to actually hold anything up.

“And it seems it’s not just me who is enraged by its return, with many taking to TikTok to give their views, saying: ‘Oh no not the disc belt! I don’t think I have the energy for it a 2nd time around’ – I feel you.”

Jelly shoes

“After not being seen on shelves for decades, they’ve made a reappearance and this time they’re not just for kids.

“Coming in a range of colourful patterns, you can get them all over the high street in either flat or heeled versions.

“Not only will you look very childish wearing such shoes, but people will also need to learn that they aren’t the comfiest – blister plasters will come in handy.”

Pedal pushers

“The cropped knee-grazing trouser were all the rage in the 1990s and 2000s, but this time the model fash pack are all over them – with both Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski wearing them out recently.

“The original IT girls, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot helped make the trousers – also called Capri pants – look effortlessly cool and glam.

“Somehow this time round they don’t seem to be having that same effect.”

“What other colours have they got?”

To which Katie replied: “I don’t ever remember suffering with them!

“They had matte black and the silver but more colours are coming apparently!!”

In the description on the Primark website, they wrote that the shoes “feature a classic fisherman design with adjustable buckle for the perfect custom fit”.

Man Utd star Andre Onana’s wife is ‘devastated’ and has axed travel plans after being ‘robbed of £62k handbag and Rolex’

ANDRE ONANA’S wife Melanie Kamayou was left “devastated” and axed her travel plans after being ‘robbed’ of her £62,000 handbag and Rolex watch.

Melanie, who has been married to Onana for over two years, reportedly had her high-value bling snatched outside an Italian restaurant in Cheshire on March 29.

The self-proclaimed businesswoman and philanthropist was left “devastated” according to a source close to Onana and his wife.

SunSport understands that Melanie was set to fly to Cameroon the day after the robbery in order to supervise a business she runs in the African country, but was forced to cancel her plans to leave the UK after the ordeal.

The model had been out for a meal before leaving the country when she was robbed of her £62,000 Hermes Birkin bag and Rolex watch.

A source told SunSport: “The whole episode has left her devastated as she was due to travel back home the next day.

“Now she has wait and get to the bottom of this issue.”

Liam Ross, 25, from the Wibsey area of Bradford, has been charged with the high-value robbery, the Daily Mail reports.

The alleged thief is claimed to have taken the ultra-luxury designer goods in the heart of the picturesque Cheshire village.

Ross appeared before Chester Magistrates Court on Friday, also facing a charge of supplying cannabis.

Grand National betting offers and free bets

He’s due back in court at Chester Crown Court in May.

Melanie, who went public with her relationship with Onana in 2019, is a social media star with nearly 72,000 Instagram followers, as well as holding a doctorate in Pharmacy from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in the United States.

While she also works as the co-chair for Onana’s charity supporting children – the Andre Onana Foundation.

Melanie and Onana did have to go through some turbulence together in 2021 when the goalkeeper was wrapped up in a doping controversy.

While still at Ajax, Onana was found to have taken banned substance furosemide and slapped with a year-long ban by Uefa.

However, that ban was reduced to just nine months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after he insisted he accidentally took one of Melanie’s pregnancy medicine pills instead of a headache tablet.

In an interview with The Players’ Tribune Onana said: “A lot of people saw the headlines. ‘Onana? Oh, he got banned for taking drugs. He’s a cheat, an addict’.

“Even after everything that came out — the CAS statement and the rest — it’s a stain on my name.”

Melanie stood by Onana throughout that period and the pair still remain strong to this day.

The couple now live in Alderley Edge, a magnet for Premier League stars past and present, nicknamed the “Knightsbridge of the North”.
