‘Fans have lost faith in me’ – Postecoglou lifts lid on ‘tough time’ as under-pressure Spurs boss makes bold prediction

ANGE POSTECOGLOU admitted a large number of Spurs fans have lost faith in him — and confessed he would start the season differently if he could.

Tottenham are languishing in the bottom half of the table, lost to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-finals and went out of the FA Cup after a fourth-round defeat to Aston Villa.

Their wretched, injury-hit campaign could still end gloriously, though, if they can win the Europa League, with a quarter-final first leg at home to Eintracht Frankfurt next Thursday.

But boss Ange knows he no longer retains the full backing of many disillusioned supporters, despite the promise of his debut campaign last year.

The 59-year-old said: “There’s no doubt there’s probably a large portion of Tottenham fans who have lost a bit of faith and belief in what we’re doing.

“They were encouraged by what they saw last year but that certainly hasn’t manifested itself this year.

“I still am really optimistic and bullish about the squad we’ve got. I think there will be enormous growth in them once we can navigate through this.

“Surviving tough times can be such a strong uniter of people.”

Postecoglou has had a crippling injury list to deal with, with a whole host of players suffering from muscle issues.

And in an interview for Optus Sport, the Aussie told compatriot and former goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer that he wished he had not worked his players so hard at the start season.

The former Celtic chief explained: “We probably got the start of the year wrong. It’s becoming increasingly challenging for footballers these days, they don’t get the traditional break.

“We went into the season really hard and we probably underestimated the challenges of Europe this year with the two extra games and us having a deep cup run.

“You add to the mix that we lost some key players early on and it feels like we’ve been chasing our tails since then. We haven’t been able to get ahead of the challenge we’ve had.

“Every time we try to get some steady ground, something else happens that shifts and a lot of that goes back to the start of the year.

“We maybe would have taken a different approach knowing the season we had ahead.

“I’ve been trying to mend things as we go along.

“Probably in hindsight, with some better planning at the start of the year, I would have gone for a bit of a softer start to the season in terms of the way we tackled things.”

Spurs travel across London to rivals Chelsea tomorrow, host basement boys Southampton on Sunday and then have their first leg at home to Frankfurt four days later.

Postecoglou added: “The Europa League is a massive opportunity. We’re one of eight clubs [still in it].

“If you can go through what we’ve been through this year and come out the other side of it and have success, it’s a great builder for the future.”

Vicki Fowler’s new love Ross shows dark side as she returns to EastEnders after 21 years

VICKI Fowler’s new love interest Ross Marshall shows his dark side in upcoming EastEnders scenes.

Ross – played by Alex Walkinshaw – arrived in Walford alongside a returning Vicki for her uncle Martin Fowler’s funeral.

His presence comes as a shock to some residents – who believed Vicki was still with Spencer Moon (Christopher Parker).

Vicki and Ross are also accompanied by Ross’ teenage son, Joel.

In scenes yet to air, Ross attempts to make things right with Sharon by apologising for upsetting Alfie.

However, she soon makes it clear that she won’t be won over by smooth talking.

Ross later takes a mysterious phone call and makes it his mission to convince Vicki they should stay in Walford longer than planned.

He proves hellbent on keeping Vicki in Walford, despite her having booked flights home.

After being unable to convince her directly, he turns to manipulating Ian Beale.

Ross persuades him that Mark Junior, not Vicki, should be the one to step up for grieving Michelle.

Elsewhere, Vicki gets a call from Michelle, and it looks like Ross’s plan has worked.

Actor Alex Walkinshaw, 50, is the eighth alum from ITV police show The Bill to relocate to Walford from Sun Hill.

Some previous examples include Scott Maslen (Jack Branning) and Diane Parish (Denise Fox).

He also portrayed Adrian “Fletch” Fletcher on both Casualty and Holby City.

Speaking previously of his role as newcomer Ross, Alex said: “I am really excited as I’ve had so many friends on EastEnders throughout the years, and I always hear lovely things about it.

“The show is top draw drama and I can’t wait to get stuck in. Ross is a decent, hardworking family man, he always puts family first, and he is very in love with Vicki, but it’s not always plain sailing.”

Alex’s casting was announced last month, alongside that of Alice Haig as a recast Vicki Fowler and Max Murray as Joel.

Darkest soap storylines

Over the years the likes of EastEndersEmmerdale and Coronation Street have all tried to try outdo each other with their outlandish plots in a bid to keep us tuning in each week. But here are some of the darkest that had fans in shock…

  • EastEnders: Tony grooming Whitney (2008-2009) – Tony King first appeared in Albert Square in 2008 as the boyfriend of Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer. But it was quickly revealed he was a paedophile who had been grooming vulnerable Whitney, Bianca’s adopted stepdaughter from a previous relationship, since she was 12. The shocking storyline attracted more than 200 complaints within a week of it beginning. Whitney waited until her 16th birthday to reveal the truth to a horrified Bianca, who called the police.
  • Emmerdale: Holly’s drug addiction and shock death (2010-2016) – In 2010, Holly Barton (played by Sophie Powles) became Emmerdale’s first teenage drug addict. The shocking storyline saw her taking cocaine on a night out before developing a deadly heroin habit. Parents John and Moira desperately tried to help get their daughter clean but when Holly returned in 2016, following a four-year absence, she quickly relapsed. Fans were left stunned and heartbroken when distraught Moira found Holly dead in her bed from a heroin overdose.
  • Hollyoaks: Luke’s rape (2000) – Actor Gary Lucy was just 17 when he took on this groundbreaking storyline, which saw his character Luke Morgan become soap’s first male rape victim. Luke had endured a long-running bullying campaign by football rival Mark Gibbs – who raped him after Luke stood up to him. Luke was left suicidal following the brutal attack, before opening up to his brother Adam. Gibbs was sentenced to eight years in prison. Gary won the Best Actor gong at the British Soap Awards in 2000 for his performance.
  • Coronation Street: Evil Richard Hillman (2001-2003) – Just a mere mention of ‘Richard Hillman’ is enough to send a shiver down the spines of soap fans. He is often ranked one of the most evil soap villains and it’s not hard to see why. The smooth-talking financial adviser bashed his ex-wife Patricia over the head with a shovel. In a bid to keep his mother-in-law Audrey quiet, he set fire to her house. And when Maxine caught him trying to murder Emily Bishop, he took a crowbar to her head. He made his exit from the cobbles in 2003 when he drove Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, and her family into the canal. They survived, but he didn’t.
  • Fans were thrilled by the news, as one wrote on X: “Alex Walkinshaw / Smithy from The Bill!!!! What great casting with various shows apart from The Bill he’s been involved with.”

Another added: “Alex Walkinshaw is perfect for EastEnders. He was incredible in the Bill.”

While a third remarked: “Great to see @WalkinshawAlex finally in EastEnders.

“Always thought it likely once The Bill finished and of course he was then great in Waterloo Road, Casualty and Holby #EastEnders.”

Sarah Platt gets shock new love interest as Coronation Street Casanova sets his sights on THIRD conquest

SARAH Platt looks set to be on a mission to be the Coronation Street beauty with the most notches on her bedpost as she finds herself catching the eye of another Weatherfield hunk.

Her new man is already a love lothario himself having managed to get cosy with two local women in the past six months alone – including one of Sarah’s relatives.

Hunky copper Kit Green becomes the focus of her attention[/caption]

Sarah’s last relationship saw her involved with hunky criminal Damon Hay.

Whilst it seemed like there was a genuine connection between the pair, the outside noise became too difficult with Sarah and her children’s lives often placed in danger because of Damon’s notorious ways.

She originally began her illicit romance with Damon whilst married to the Street’s reformed sex machine – Adam Barlow.

Sarah had managed to transform Adam’s womanising ways but left him heartbroken when she strayed for bad boy Damon.

Having been single for close to a year, it seems that Sarah is ready to start hooking up once more – and her next conquest lives very close by.

In scenes to be broadcast next week, Coronation Street viewers will see sparks begin to fly between Sarah and none other than the charming PC Kit Green.

The corrupt copper has already had his way with some of the cobbles’ ladies including a brief romance with Daisy Midgeley as well as having an affair with Sarah’s sister-in-law, Shona Platt.

Now, he will be left trying his best to woo Sarah into bed as romance begins to blossom.

The flirting will begin over what appears to be an innocent drink at the Rovers.

Kit does his best to put on the charm offensive in a bid to impress Sarah.

But as she plays hard to get, it appears that he has his work cut out for him in order to secure the factory worker.

So will it be the start of a brand new love story?

Or another doomed relationship for the unlucky-in love duo?

Corrie cash crisis: shock exits for 2025

ITV bosses are locked in a battle to save the cash-strapped soap.

This means that a number of stars have either been axed from or have abandoned the long-running serial drama.

    Colson Smith – Craig Tinker

The character of Craig Tinker has been axed by bosses after 14 years. After he was told of the news in Autumn 2024, Colson Smith confirmed that would be written out of the show with scenes to air later this year. Craig’s on-screen mum, Beth Tinker, also left the show in the summer when actress Lisa George was written out from the role.

    Sue Cleaver – Eileen Grimshaw

After 25 years playing Eileen Grimshaw, former I’m A Celebrity campmate Sue Cleaver will quit the show. The Sun on Sunday reported in January that she’s already begun to film her exit scenes. However the character will not be killed off in case Sue opts to make a return in the future.

    Luca Toolan – Mason Radcliffe

Bosses decided to axe the teenage character after just 16 months after he first joined the show. Recent scenes saw Mason stabbed by his criminal brothers after his pal Dylan brought a knife in an attempt to defend him.

    Sue Devaney – Debbie Webster

In November 2024, we revealed that Debbie Webster is set to be killed off after 40 years on the cobbles. The character will die as part of a heartbreaking long-running dementia storyline.

    Charlotte Jordan – Daisy Midgeley

The actress became the fifth star to leave Coronation Street in just one month. We revealed that she will bow out of the ITV soap later this year after four years on-screen. Charlotte told sources that she’s hungry to see what other opportunities await.

    Shelley King – Yasmeen Metcalfe

The actress has played Yasmeen Metcalfe on the cobbles for the past 11 years and we revealed in January that she finished filming her final scenes. This follows the departure of her on-screen partner Stu Carpenter.
