BRIDGET Jones fans were left ecstatic when it was announced that Renee Zellweger would be getting back into character for a fourth movie.
Bridget Jones fans were heartbroken to find out Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth, has been killed off in the new film[/caption]
Mark won over leading lady Bridget Jones liking her ‘just the way she is’[/caption]
The trailer shows Bridget navigating life as a widower and battling motherhood alone – although she does seem happy about Leo Woodall’s character coming into her life – a handsome 29-year-old named Roxster.
Despite some fans slamming the movie creators for “spoiling the movie” by killing off the previous film’s main heartthrob, others were quick to make a poignant observation.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one fan said: “Can’t be mad at the new Bridget Jones plot anymore bc i found out that’s what happened to the author.”
Bridget’s new chapter is indeed close to British writer Helen Fielding’s heart, as her ex-partner and father of her two children, Kevin Curran, died of cancer in 2016.
This was the same year that her close friend and Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher died too.
Helen started to write the screenplay for Mad About the Boy during the pandemic when the feeling of loss was even more poignant.
She wrote: “I wanted to show how you can feel both a sense of humour and a sense of perspective – your friends, your community, your resilience can get you through these things and you can still laugh.”
Helen met Kevin, a writer and executive producer on The Simpsons, in LA on a publicity tour.
The pair started dating and Fielding moved from London to Los Angeles to live with him, and they went on to have two children: Dashiell, born in February 2004, and Romy, born in July 2006.
Fielding’s novel Bridget Jones’s Diary started life as a column in the Independent newspaper.
She was approached to write a column about being a single woman in London and, too embarrassed to write about her own experiences, Fielding created an anonymous character to write under.
This character was loved by readers, and Fielding wrote Bridget Jones’s Diary on the back of its popularity. The paperback shot to the top of the best-seller chart.

Fielding went on to pen the rest of the sequence of novels: Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, and Bridget Jones’s Baby: The Diaries.

The first film, released in 2001, made more than £222million at the box office.
In a survey conducted by The Guardian, Bridget Jones’s Diary was named as one of the ten novels that best defined the 20th century.
Across her three-decade career, Renee Zellweger has won such accolades as two Academy Awards, two British Academy Film Awards and four Golden Globe Awards.
Here is a look at some of her most memorable roles
The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1995, “Jenny”): The fourth installment in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, this slasher film marked Renee’s first starring role.
Jerry Maguire (1996, “Dorothy Boyd”): Renee starred opposite Tom Cruise in this classic sports-comedy drama.
Nurse Betty (2000, “Betty Sizemore”): For her portrayal of the title character, Renee received a Golden Globe.
Bridget Jones franchise (2001 – present, “Bridget Jones”): The actress adopts an English accent to play the title character in this franchise. The fourth instalment, titled Bridget Jones: Mad About A Boy is due to be released in February 2025.
Cold Mountain (2003, “Ruby”): Renee starred opposite Jude Law and Nicole Kidman in this period war drama film. She received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Judy (2019, “Judy Garland”): In this biographical drama, Renee portrayed the legendary actress Judy Garland, most notably known for the Wizard of Oz. She received her second Academy Award for her work in this film.

KYLE Walker is reunited with estranged wife Annie and children after they jetted into Italy to watch him make hid debut for Italian giants AC Milan.
The former Manchester City skipper, 34, is widely expected to make his bow in the Milan derby against arch rivals Inter on Sunday.

And model Annie, 31, will be in the iconic San Siro stadium to support him as he begins the next chapter in his glittering career.
He also has the support of England legend and former Milan favourite David Beckham who sent him a message congratulating him.
Becks, who scored twice in 33 games for the Serie A giants after joining on loan in 2009, urged him to “keep going”.
And the doting dad was beaming as he was reunited with Annie and the kids in Italy.
Loyal Annie jetted in with their four kids – Roman, 12, Riaan, nine, seven-year-old Reign and baby Rezon – on Friday afternoon after a turbulent week.
They boarded a £50,000 private jet flight from Manchester Airport and flew into Milan before being reunited with the England full-back.
Annie wheeled baby Rezon in a pushchair after they touched down before a delighted Kyle held the toddler in his arms and waved to fans.
The family were snapped together at the five-star Melia Milano hotel where Kyle has been staying since joining the Rossoneri.
His three older kids were dressed in matching £135 Fear of God tracksuits and were even pictured talking to Kyle’s new boss, Sergio Conceicao.
Kyle collected the family’s suitcases from the blacked out Mercedes people carrier and took them into the lobby.
The Three Lions ace laughed and joked with the kids inside as they checked in moments later.
A source said: “He was clearly overjoyed to see them all.
“It means the world to him that they’ll be there in the stadium to watch him make his debut for AC Milan.
“It’s a huge moment for him and the family. The kids are so excited.
“Their struggles are well documented but they’ve put it to one side for now to enjoy this moment as a family.”
They later enjoyed a meal together in front of a huge TV screen showing the latest match.
His mum and dad are also expected to be in the stadium today to watch him make his debut.
Kyle signed a loan at AC Milan until the end of the season after dramatically telling City he wanted to quit.
He flew out of the UK just over a week ago before being unveiled to the fans.
He then watched his new teammates fight back to clinch a stunning 3-2 injury time win against rivals Parma.
On Sunday he will pull on the iconic shirt for the first time – bearing the same number 32 as Becks – as his new side take on city rivals Inter.
Kyle said he was persuaded to join by fellow Englishman and Milan striker Tammy Abraham who has also joined on loan.
And he specifically requested his squad number – revealing: “I chose number 32 for David Beckham.”
Speaking ahead of his much-anticipated debut he added: “The Milan fans here are incredible. And hearing them sing … it will be emotional.”
Kyle is the fourth Englishman now at the Rossoneri, joining on-loan Roma striker Tammy and more former Chelsea players – Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Sources said he was desperate to escape the UK after he confessed to fathering a second child with his ex-mistress, Lauryn Goodman, 34. The scandal has dogged the player for over a year.
He was kicked out of the family home in December 2023 and Annie, heavily pregnant with Rezon at the time, vowed it would be the last straw and filed for divorce last August.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun, the footie ace apologised publicly and begged for forgiveness.
NEW BEGINNINGS
Walker also revealed he had come close to signing for the then German champions Bayern Munich in a £15million move.
In a candid interview, Kyle confessed: “Now you know the reason why, because I tried to escape.
“Did I want to leave City? No, of course I didn’t.
“We’re the best team in the world at the minute, but for me it was a chance to get away from England and the media I was going to get.
“I was acutely aware the clock was ticking. I came very close to moving. We were having conversations.
“The numbers were there. I was going to a great club, a massive club. But in the end I couldn’t go.
“There is pain and emotion at the moment but I can go to the house, pick the kids up, take them to school, I can take my little lad to football.
“I can do the normal stuff that makes me feel normal.”
His loan move to AC Milan is expected to be made permanent in the Summer – bringing an end to his eight year career at the Etihad.
He has won 17 major honours with City since his £50million move from Tottenham in 2017.
His accolades include six Prem titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and the Champions League.
The £150,000-a-week full-back was tipped for a move to the Saudi league to join Cristiano Ronaldo and Co.
But Kyle is said to be desperate to become the first ever black player to reach 100 caps for England – he currently has 93.
To reach the milestone, he would need to be on the plane for the World Cup next year.
A source said he refused to give up on that dream and chose AC Milan in the hope that it will boost his chances.

KATIE Price’s ex-fiancé Carl Woods has called her IVF documentary an “attention-grab” and claimed she “didn’t care if he was the dad of her sixth baby baby”.
Katie, 46, and Carl, 35, were told early on the chance of success was less than one percent.
Regardless of this warning, and despite serious issues with their relationship, the pair went ahead with the treatment.
But Carl has slammed Katie – who already has five kids – saying she was “using” him.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, he said: “It wasn’t about having a kid with me.
“It was just about an attention grab, the latest puppy she wants.
“It didn’t matter if it was me or just a sperm donor. It’s not a story about how much I really want a kid with you.
“Katie just wants a kid with anybody who’s going to donate sperm to her. So excuse me if I’m a bit flippant about it.”
Continuing, Carl added: “Like I said before, it was all wrong.
“It was a very awkward thing to be filming given the circumstances, and then to be edited in such a way that makes it look like ‘oh she’s surprised she’s been blocked one morning’ when the night before she didn’t come home.”
Carl is referring to a scene in the documentary where he blocked Katie and failed to attend a check-up the week before donor eggs were due to be transferred.
He said: “It was biasedly edited to make it look like the reason that I blocked her and we broke up was because IVF failed and she was too old to give me a baby.
“And all of a sudden, she’s woke up one morning, I’m a no-show to the appointment, apparently, and I blocked her. And she doesn’t know why.
“The production company were more than aware of what was going on in the relationship.
Katie and Carl were told they had less than one percent chance of success[/caption]
“They edited this bit out. The reason I blocked her is the day before, she’d gone out for the day apparently to ‘work’.
“She had ignored me all day. Non contactable. On and offline on WhatsApp but I got ignored.
“It came to the evening. I was at her house and Jett FaceTimed her.
“She answered to Jett not knowing I was there and she was out on the p*ss and I could hear a fella talking with her.
Katie was seen looking upset on the Channel 4 doc[/caption]
“I went on to FaceTime and she told me to f**k off and hung up.
“She and the production company knew exactly the reason why I didn’t go to the next appointment.”
A spokesperson for Channel 4 said: “Katie Price: Making Babies is a fair and balanced representation of events during filming.”
During the documentary, the pair each spoke about their break-up to camera, with Carl insisting he’d done everything he could to support Katie.
Carl and Katie in happier times[/caption]
He also complimented her mothering ability, calling her a “wonderful mum”, and said it was “heartbreaking” leaving behind her eldest son Harvey, 22, after three years of helping care for him.
However, he’s critical of the way Katie spoke about the end of their relationship in which she questioned if he really wanted a child with her and failed to mention the FaceTime fallout or the instances of cheating before filming began.
“Quite honestly, I find it’s embarrassing watching her babbling on,” said Carl.
“The poor me, woe is me victim act. It’s boring.
“Katie blames everybody, doesn’t she? Katie’s always the victim. Katie’s never done anything wrong.
“Well, Katie creates every one of her storms. And then she’s a match lighter, and then she stands back, watches it burn, and says, ‘oh, it wasn’t me’. That’s what she does.”
Carl described his appearance in the documentary as “realistic” and insists the IVF journey had no bearing on his decision to leave her.
He said “At one point in the first episode, I was eating in the car, and I said, ‘there’s worse things to leave over’.
“She said, ‘well, how do you feel?’ And I said, ‘well, it’s more about how you feel’. And she said, ‘well, I think you’re going to leave me’.
“And I said, ‘well, there’s worse things to leave over than this’. And what I was referring to was I’d already caught her cheating.”
