A tale of two housing solutions

The Department of Treasury’s math on Western Australia’s housing deficit is brutally clear: we need 92,000 new homes by 2027, yet our construction industry can only deliver 67,000 under current conditions.

Love Island drug scandal as Stacey Solomon’s ex ‘smuggled narcotics into villa’ and shared them with co-stars

LOVE Island has become embroiled in a historic drugs scandal centred on Stacey Solomon’s ex.

The X Factor alum, 35, dated Jackass star Steve-O, 50, after they met while filming reality series The Jump.

Yet now American stunt performer and comedian Steve-O, famed for his role in the dare-devil reality series, is the centre of attention for his former Love Island stint.

Steve-O appeared in the celebrity version of the matchmaking show in 2006 and has now been accused of smuggling drugs into the villa, which was in Fiji at the time.

The scandal came around after a confession by the late Paul Danan, in the final podcast released before his death last month.

In the Outlet Ten Discussions Podcast Steve-O’s fellow Love Island alum Paul said of his villa entry: “They didn’t search you or anything like that because we’re not stupid.

“No one’s gonna bring nothing on there. But guess who f**king did?

“They got Steve-O from Jackass, and he basically swallowed a load of f**king whatever, and he was like s**tting it out!”

He then suggested Steve-O, whose real name is Stephen Glover, made a bong by cutting off the top of an apple while in the middle of the villa.

Paul added: “So there we are me and Steve-O just smoking away this apple, and you can hear ‘Paul and Steve-O, can you come to the Beach Hut right now.’

“They know they can’t use any of it obviously, and he got chucked out. They were like, ‘you can’t do that, man.'”

At the time Steve-O left the villa, ITV released a statement that read: “Steve-O became very emotional last night and again this morning, and was upsetting some of the other celebrities.

“We therefore agreed with him that he should go home.

“He has been great entertainment since he arrived on Monday, and we thank him for his contribution.”

ITV bosses declined to comment when approached by The Sun.

LOVE STORY

Meanwhile, Steve-O and Stacey met on wintersports reality show The Jump back in 2015 and had a whirlwind romance.

Love Island All Stars 2025 official line-up

Love Island All Stars is back on TV for season 2.

Here we take you through the line-up of all the Islanders who are in the villa so far.

Bombshells

Each series brings with it a string of hot single bombshells making their epic entrance into the villa.

Here’s who has joined the villa so far:

One fan called the relationship “actually nuts” while another boggled: “What the actual f**k?”

For a while they were a real celebrity couple and dated for six months before the distance between the pair made the relationship difficult.

Sadly Steve-O and Stacey were not to be with an insider telling The Sun at the time: “Stacey found it hard being away from Steve-O so they decided to put their relationship on hold.”

“He has a huge tour in the States, as that’s where his fanbase is. The relationship developed quickly and was a real whirlwind, but for the time being it’s not to be.”

Their break-up paved the way for her now-husband Joe Swash to start dating in 2016.

Embarrassment for Man Utd star after he said emotional goodbyes to team-mates only to see transfer exit COLLAPSE

TYRELL MALACIA said goodbye to his Manchester United team-mates – only for his transfer to collapse.

The defender was set to join Benfica on loan until the end of the season.

But the proposed deal has fallen through after the two clubs failed to reach an agreement over his loan fee or the terms of a buy option, according to the Daily Mail.

Malacia, 25, expected to be leaving Old Trafford so said his goodbyes to his team-mates.

He could still leave the club on a temporary basis however with Celtic and Real Betis understood to be amongst the clubs interested in the Dutchman.

Ruben Amorim is happy to let Malacia leave after signing another left-back, Patrick Dorgu.

Malacia has featured just eight times since Amorim was hired, with only three of those matches coming in the Prem.

He missed the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign through injury and only returned to action in November.

Malacia could follow Marcus Rashford out of the door with the forward closing in on a loan move to Aston Villa.

Rashford underwent a medical after agreeing terms which will see him continue to earn £325,000-a-week as United will cover 25 per cent of his wages.

Villa also have the option to buy the England forward at the end of the season for around £40million.

A United source told SunSport it had been made clear to Rashford he would not play for United again while Ruben Amorim was the boss.

New lido set to open in UK city for the first time in decades

A MAJOR UK city has revealed plans to open a new outdoor swimming pool as part of a huge redevelopment.

Holt Town, in Manchester, is being transformed into a ‘woodland neighbourhood’.

Holt Town already has its own tram stop too so it will be easy to get to[/caption]

The revamp includes 15-acres of green space and a river park – as well as a new lido.

Located between Ancoats and New Islington, it will open on Cyrus Street.

However the area will need a lot of work, as it is currently overgrown and abandoned, and often used by fly tippers.

The open-air pool will be a first for the city in 40 years, with Manchester not having any current lidos.

The Galleon, in East Didsbury, first opened in the 1930s with guests including footballer George Best.

However it closed just 50 years later and has since been built on.

And the lido at Alexandra Park also closed back in the 1980s.

Images of the new lido show the huge pool surrounded by trees, as well as a lifeguard tower.

The size of the pool and other amenities are yet to be confirmed.

Also part of the new development will be 4,500 homes, including a number of affordable options.

The town already has its own tram stop so it will be easy to get to from the city centre.

Bev Craig, Leader of Manchester City Council, said:  “Holt Town has huge potential and this is feeding our ambition to create a brand new woodland town – the first of its kind in Manchester.

“This neighbourhood will represent a people-first focus around active travel, green spaces, new play spaces for young people – and a digital first approach that will better connect the community with local services.

While an opening date is yet to be confirmed, the local council said it would take “many years” to complete.

Other parts of the development include 4,500 new houses[/caption]

And if you can wait a bit longer, the massive Therme Manchester is set to open in the next few years.

First announced back in 2020, the huge indoor water complex will have an all-seasons beach, swim up bars as well as 25 pools and 35 slides.

The website states: “Therme Manchester will deliver a unique wellbeing experience immersed within an expansive, multi-zoned, tropical environment with a vision to ‘reconnect to yourself, others and nature whilst having a great time doing it’.”

The project is expected to cost £250million and estimates 1.7million guests in the first year.

It has initially hoped to open by 2023, with the new date being to open in 2027 although this may be delayed again.

And here’s a brand new lido set to open in London.

Why Manchester is one of the world's top cities

Lee Bell spoke to the Sun about what it is like to live in Manchester after it was named a top city by NYT.

Following the pandemic, I became part of the wave escaping the big smoke to settle in this quieter, more affordable city also known as “the capital of the North”.

While Manchester, like any other city, as a number of modern high-rise buildings, it has also transformed it’s iconic red brick structures into exciting new cultural venues.

Take Mayfield Depot, for instance – once a railway yard, this arts, music and culture hub is home to the massively popular Warehouse Project and is one of the best places to see a band or DJ in Manchester, in my opinion.

The city’s dining culture over the last few years has boomed too. Even food critics such as Jay Rayner are regularly celebrating what the city has to offer.

Foodies can also try one of the 17 restaurants that have been given a nod in the Michelin Guide, including Higher Ground, a British Bistro focused on seasonal food and casual dining have impressed with unique dishes and attention to detail.

If you’re a visitor looking to visit for longer than a day, there are plenty of hotels to go at, from flashy luxury offerings like Hotel Gotham on King Street to cosy boutique wonders like Forty-Seven on Peter Street.

Love Island’s Ekin-Su recreates THAT crawl in raunchiest ever heart-rate challenge

LOVE Island is about to get a whole lot steamier, and there’s one Love Islander who will set heart rates racing with their raunchy moves.

In the latest scenes from the Love Island All Stars villa, the Islanders are set to test each other with the heart-rate challenge and see which one of them can have the most impact.

With couples set to be tested by who is the sexiest Islander, it’s time for Ekin-Su to shine as she brings out a classic move we saw from her the first time she appeared on the ITV show.

Back on Love Island 2022 Ekin-Su crawled to the upstairs terrace so she could have a sneaky snog with Islander Jay Younger whilst she was coupled up with Davide Sanclimente.

The all fours move has become an iconic moment of Love Island history, and now she’s bringing it back.

In the heart rate challenge, which will air in moments on the show shown later this week, the brunette beauty is dressed as a devil as she puts on a raunchy show that will see her down on all fours once again.

The performance has an impact, with some of the Islanders getting up from the fire pit to take a moment to cool off from the sexy show.

However it’s not all been sultry glances and sexy moments for Ekin-Su this series, as her rollercoaster romance with Curtis Pritchard has been one to watch.

Last week tensions boiled over between Ekin and Curtis Pritchard during a chat after he was stolen from her by Danielle Sellers

Curtis admitted he had led her “towards the end” of their romance, shortly before Danielle picked him to couple up with.

He said he felt “confused and pressured” by their two-week romance to say he was closed off, when in fact he wasn’t.

The chat didn’t end well with a furious Ekin-Su accusing him of making up “bulls**t” and branding him a liar before she threw her drink at him.

The angry outburst has seen Love Island viewers calling the action a step too far and claiming she should be removed.

The shock drink spillage also saw Ekin-Su given a warning by All Stars bosses over the incident as a Love Island insider told us: “Love Island bosses regularly speak to the Islanders to remind them of expected behaviour.”

Love Island All Stars continues tonight at 9pm and is available on the ITV player.

How to burn 150 calories in just 10 minutes at home – the personal trainer-approved workout that blasts fat fast

BETWEEN long hours at work and trying to maintain some kind of social life, finding the time to exercise can be tricky.

But just because we’re busy, it doesn’t mean we can’t burn some serious calories.

Collage of a woman performing a workout routine.

The secret? High intensity interval training (HIIT), which involves short periods of intense movement followed by short periods of rest.

It’s brief but effective. In fact, when compared to running, cycling and weight training, research published in Sports Medicine found that HIIT burns up to 30 per cent more calories.

And you keep burning these calories well after you’ve completed your workout, according to personal trainer Sarah Campus.

“It’s what’s known as the ‘afterburn’,” the founder of LDN MUMS FITNESS says.

“There has been a lot of research to show that HIIT can increase your metabolic rate – also known as the number of calories you burn just by living.

“HIIT achieves this by boosting the body’s efforts to recover, repair, and return to normal after the intense physical and metabolic demands on the workout.

“This makes it a very efficient method for burning calories and fat, even after the exercise session has ended.”

Thankfully, you don’t have to slog away in the gym for hours to achieve these results.

Sarah has shared a speedy 10-minute home workout that can help you burn around 150 calories.

It consists of 10 moves – and all you need is a set of dumbbells (or two tins of beans) and some space.

“Be sure to warm up and cool down too,” Sarah says.

“Devote a few minutes to warming up, especially if it’s first thing in the morning and you’ve barely moved yet!

“Jog lightly on the spot and practice some dynamic stretches (ones with some movement), such as leg swings.

“When you’re finished, opt for static, or still, stretches.”

Ready to go? Sarah recommends alternating between 40 seconds of work and 20 seconds of rest.

If you’re full of energy, you can double up and make this a 20-minute workout, but if you’re struggling, lessen the work period and increase the rest period.

“Try to push yourself to maintain high intensity throughout the session,” says Sarah.

“By going as hard as you can, you’ll burn more calories and reap the effects of the afterburn.

“Essentially, you should really need the rest between moves; if you can go faster, then do it!”

1. Jump squats

Bend down into a squat before exploding upwards[/caption]

Start with your feet just wider than hip-width apart before lowering into a squat.

Push your hips back, bend your knees and keep your back flat.

Quickly explode upwards and jump into the air before landing back softly and going straight back into a squat to repeat the move.

2. Burpees

Squat down, put your hands on the floor and step or jump back before bring the feet back in and jumping up[/caption]

Squat down and place your hands in front of you on the floor.

Jump or step back into a plank so your hands are under your shoulders and your body is in a straight line down to your toes.

Then, jump or step your feet forward to your hands and jump straight up into the air.

As you land, drop straight back into your next burpee.

3. Mountain climbers

For mountain climbers, concentrate on keeping your body in a straight line[/caption]

Start in a high plank position with your hands on the floor, directly under your shoulders, and your body in a straight line.

Drive your left knee to your right elbow and then step your left foot back before quickly alternating sides and driving your right knee to your left elbow.

Try to move quickly here, alternating between the left and right.

4. Push up shoulder tap

Then try shoulder taps[/caption]

Get into a high plank position or if you prefer, drop down to your knees to make this a little easier.

Drop into a push up by bending your elbows and lowering your chest down to the floor.

Push up through your hands to straighten your arms and then take your left hand and tap your right shoulder.

Place your left hand down and then take your right hand to your left shoulder.

Return your right hand and then repeat the push up and shoulder taps again.

5. High knees

High knees help to get your heart rate up[/caption]

Now it’s time to really get your heart rate up.

Start jogging on the spot, driving your knees up as high as possible.

Pump your arms at the same time for extra momentum.

6. Mime skipping

You can get the benefits of skipping without the rope[/caption]

You don’t necessarily need a rope to enjoy the benefits of skipping

Hold your hands out to either side of your body with your elbows in, as if holding a skipping rope.

Then, jump lightly on the balls of your feet, staying quick and controlled.

Flick your wrists up and down, as though you were moving a rope up and over your body.

7. Jumping lunges

Your knee should be near the floor, but not touching[/caption]

Start in a low lunge position with your left leg in front and both knees bent.

Your right knee should be close to the floor behind you, but not touching.

Jump up and switch legs mid air so your right leg is now in front.

Land softly into your lunge and then keep repeating.

8. Plank jack

Sarah Campus / LDN MUMS FITNESS
Then jump your feet in and out, a bit like a star jump[/caption]

Start in a high plank position again.

Keeping your arms straight with your shoulders directly above your palms, jump your feet out wide and then back together again.

Keep repeating this, jumping your feet in and out as quickly as possible.

Remember to keep your body in a straight line.

9. Squat and press

Use dumbbells or tins of beans for the squat and press[/caption]

Hold a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height.

Squat down and then as you come up from your squat, press both dumbbells up overhead.

Lower your dumbbells back to your shoulders and repeat.

10. Dumbbell boxing

And finally, this one’s a real burner!

Hold a dumbbell in each hand (ideally you’ll use light dumbbells).

Keep your core engaged and throw punches out in front of you, alternating right and left.

How Punxsutawney Phil’s Groundhog Day rival was KILLED after being dropped by mayor in front of horrified crowd

A RIVAL of Punxsutawney Phil’s was killed after being dropped by a “Butterfingers” mayor in front of a screaming crowd.

Groundhog Day star Phi made his much-anticipated prediction on Sunday to a raucous, record-sized crown at Gobbler’s Knob, Pennsylvania.

The hog plunged to the ground, head first, and later died from its internal injuries[/caption]

The all-seeing rodent was carefully cradled by his “inner circle” as he used his meteorological powers to reveal “six more weeks of winter” to come.

But not all groundhogs have been treated with such dignity – and there is a dark chapter in the tradition’s past.

Phil’s Staten Island rival died after tumbling from the grip of then-Mayor Bill “Butterfingers” de Blasio in 2014.

Jaw-dropping footage shows the furry forecaster squirm from the gloves of the 6’5″ giant, plummeting head-first towards the ground.

Screams of horror pour from the crowd as back-up handlers scrabble to catch hold of the hog.

With such a long way down, the Staten Island Chuck didn’t stand a chance.

The rodent was found dead in its enclosure just days later, having succumbed to its “acute internal injuries” – and the zoo tried to cover it up.

Keepers found the lifeless chuck on February 9 – just days after the ceremony – but told only a close inner circle about the loss.

Even then, they claimed that natural causes had put the hog in the ground.

The scandal deepened when it emerged the doomed hog had actually been a replacement called Charlotte.

The real Staten Chuck had been secretly swapped out after he famously nibbled on then-Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s hand at the 2009 ceremony.

Staten Island Zoo sources told the New York Post the decoy had been kept under-wraps to preserve the sacred “groundhog brand”.

“Butterfingers” de Blasio claimed ignorance, insisting at the time: “I found out as all of you found out – I had no idea previously.”

The following year Staten Island Zoo adapted its Groundhog Day procedure to rule-out further fatal fumbles.

“Butterfingers” de Blasio was made to observe the ceremony from a safe distance and behind a protective screen.

No Mayor has ever returned to perform the duty on the island.

Staten Island Chuck is the most reliable groundhog in the country, with a staggering 85 percent accuracy rate according to stats from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Phil spotted his shadow – ushering in six more weeks of winter[/caption]

Phil, on the other hand, languishes at 35 percent – rated third-worst of the 19 animals analysed.

Despite his dubious record, Phil remains the authority on predicting when winter will end.

His prophecy this year, communicated via one of his inner circle, went:

“It’s groundhog day, and maybe life is on a loop. But I miss my burrow and I miss my coop.

“So I’m headed back down, there’s a shadow up here. Get ready for six more weeks of winter this year.”

If Phil hadn’t spotted his shadow, then an early spring would have been forecast.

The woodchuck’s weather forecast is an annual ritual that dates back more than a century in western Pennsylvania, with far older roots in European folklore.

It was Bill Murray’s 1993 Groundhog Day movie that transformed the event into what it is today, with tens of thousands of revellers at the scene and imitators scattered around the US and beyond.

Groundhog league table

NOT all groundhogs are created equal, and some have more of a penchant for predictions that others.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has collected data on the key forecasting hogs in the country, and ranked them according to their accuracy.

Here is the list:

  1. Staten Island Chuck Groundhog, NY – 85%
  2. General Beauregard Lee Groundhog, GA – 80%
  3. Lander Lil Prairie Dog Statue, WY – 75%
  4. Concord Charlie Never Seen (presumed groundhog), WV – 65%
