Champions League’s fastest players revealed as Erling Haaland claims top spot and team-mate same speed as Kylian Mbappe

ERLING HAALAND has clocked the fastest speed in the Champions League this season.

And the 24-year-old’s under the radar Manchester City team-mate hit the same pace as Real Madrid speedster Kylian Mbappe.

Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe completes the top three

But Mbappe won where it counts after bagging a hat-trick in City’s second leg visit to the Bernabeu in the last 16 play-offs.

And Haaland wasn’t fit enough to play as Madrid beat Pep Guardiola‘s side 6-3 on aggregate and knocked them out of Europe.

It was not a European campaign to remember for the Premier League champions, but some of City’s players still caught the eye with their pace.

Haaland reached a top speed of 22.9mph, making him the quickest player in Europe‘s elite club competition.

The Norwegian striker is known for racing past defenders, so his ranking may not surprise many fans.

But it is somewhat of a shock to see his team-mate Matheus Nunes placing fourth on the list (22.6mph).

Nunes started six of City’s 10 Champions League games and clocked the same speed as Mbappe.

The midfielder is just behind Paris Saint-Germain right back Achraf Hakimi (22.7mph) who comes in second.

Brest’s Mama Balde (22.4mph) completes the top five.

Hakimi played a full 90 minutes for the French champions as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday.

PSG defied the odds and penned Arne Slot‘s side back for most of the game, registering 29 shots to Liverpool‘s two.

But Alisson’s heroic performance of nine outstanding saves was rewarded by Harvey Elliot’s late smash-and-grab winner.

Mbappe fared much better as Real beat city rivals Atletico 2-1 to ensure they have a slim advantage heading into the second leg at the Metropolitano.

January signing Abduqodir Khusanov (22.1mph) was the third City player to make up the top 10.

City spent £33million to sign Khusanov from Ligue 1 outfit Lens at the start of the year.

There is still plenty of time for these numbers to change as teams enter the business end of the Champions League over the coming weeks.

The return legs of the last 16 ties will be played next week.

I tried Dreame’s flagship robot vacuum, it’s an absolute life-saver – and £100 cheaper on Amazon

Dreame X50 Ultra robot vacuum on carpet.

THIS robot vac has just got £100 cheaper, and after testing it, I wouldn’t want to live without it.

The Dreame X50 Ultra has dropped from £1,399 to £1,299, and it’s easily one of the best home upgrades I’ve made.

The Dreame X50 Ultra has a slick design and pulls its weight around the house

Dreame X50 Ultra Complete Robot Vacuum, £1,399 £1,299

I’ve tested lots of smart home devices, but this one has made the biggest difference in my home.

After putting it through its paces, I can honestly say I couldn’t part ways with it, and right now, Amazon’s knocked £100 off the price.

The Dreame X50 Ultra retails for a hefty £1,399, which, let’s face it, isn’t exactly pocket change and push for a spend-thrift like me.

But Amazon’s current deal brings it down to £1,299.

That’s still an investment, but a much more tempting one for a top-tier bit of tech.

I had the chance to test this model recently, and for what it offers, it’s easy to see why it’s positioned as a premium product.

With 20,000 Pa suction power, it tackles everything from stubborn pet hair to those annoying crumbs you can never seem to get rid of.

It also mops, and it does a brilliant job of it; my floors were left spotless after every run, and I was genuinely impressed by how thorough it was.

One of the standout features for me was the self-emptying base, which takes the hassle out of maintenance.

You’ll only need to empty the base every few weeks, which is a game-changer if you’ve got school runs and dinners to contend with.

The companion app is another big win, letting you schedule cleans, set no-go zones, and even customise specific cleaning routines.

Of course, £1,299 is still a lot of money, but if you’re looking for a serious upgrade to your home cleaning routine, the Dreame X50 Ultra is worth considering.

It even made the cut in our best robot vacuum cleaners roundup, so it’s definitely one of the top options out there.

If you’re still on the fence, you can check out my full Dreame X50 Ultra review for a deeper dive into the pros and cons.

I probably wouldn’t splash out full price on one myself, but with this Amazon deal saving you hundreds, now might be the perfect time to take the plunge.

The Festival, though, leaves me with a dilemma. Because I have three horses who I fancy big time on Saturday afternoon live on ITV.

Do I stick and wait? Or do I twist and go with it?

I think we all know the answer.

Yes, of course it’s the calm before the Cheltenham storm, but Sandown and Wolverhampton offer some blinding action today and I can’t wait to get to the Esher venue.

I’ll be hosting the Opening Show at 9.30am and, with so much to talk about, I can promise you it’s going to be a good ‘un.

For many the big betting race of the day is Sandown’s Imperial Cup, a handicap hurdle over two miles.

There is a £100,000 bonus up for grabs for a horse who takes this event and goes on to win any race at Cheltenham.

It’s not an easy double to do.

And few in today’s line-up are capable of achieving the feat.

But it has happened before.

I’m thinking Olympian (went on to win the Coral Cup), Blowing Wind (County Hurdle) and Gaspara (Fred Winter Juvenile Hurdle).

The key to their success, however, was the genius Martin Pipe — and he, sadly, doesn’t train anymore.

However there is one horse who fascinates me this time — the Jonjo and AJ O’Neill-trained WRECKLESS ERIC (2.25 Sandown).

The son of Arc-third Masterstroke has already had a good season, winning in a big field at Cheltenham before chasing home the enterprisingly ridden Mirabad at the same track in December.

The re-opposing Bo Zenith was an eyecatcher in third in that and meets his old rival on the same terms.

Since then, five-year-old Wreckless Eric has been to Windsor, with a fair sixth to Secret Squirrel.

My selection has been dropped 1lb for that but, more importantly, it came on a soft surface and his two fine Cheltenham performances were on good and good to soft.

The Sandown ground will be right up his alley and he also needs a strong gallop in a big field.

I think he has a belting each-way chance — and it would be a decent way for Kielan Woods to end the week smiling.

Poor Kielan was on a 1-16 shot for the owners at Catterick on Wednesday when in command and falling at the last so he gets a chance to make amends.

The other horse who really interests me is the topweight THE KEMBLE BREWERY (1.50 Sandown) in the EBF Novices’ Hurdle Final.

The Kemble Brewery was the horse I put up as one to follow this jumps season and I have no doubt he’s a better horse than a mark of 129 suggests.

A step up in trip should suit the Kim Bailey & Mat Nicholls runner and he looked really promising in wins at Worcester and Ffos Las.

The good run came to an end last time at Ludlow, however, when he was turned over at 4-11 by the reopposing Meetmebythesea.

That all said, the latter has since won off a mark of 126 so the form is decent and I’m not sure Ludlow would be his track either so you can mark that up.

Favourite columnist Ben Pauling is very sweet on this JP McManus-owned fella but I am sticking with The Kemble Brewery under the excellent Tom Bellamy.

Even with 12st on his back I am convinced he will take all the beating.

Over at Wolverhampton the Flat steps up a gear on the all-weather with the Lincoln Trial Handicap.

This sometimes throws up a decent horse and Keystroke went on to Group 3 Abernant success three years after taking the event in 2016.

LOCAL HERO (2.45 Wolverhampton) is the one who catches my eye this afternoon.

He got going too late at Kempton last time but goes well here and should have every chance of at least reaching the frame for Richard Hannon and Joe Leavy, who takes off 3lb.

A good winner again at Kempton in December, my selection in 4lb higher now but that success was under Sean Levey so now with a rider taking off 3lb he’s only up 1lb. Big chance each-way.

So there you have it. Rolling the dice with these three fancies before four days of heaven at Cheltenham.

This column smashed it last year, thanks, in the main, to latching on to Chianti Classico and the Dan Skelton stable.

The latter’s Unexpected Party and Protektorat could both play big parts again.

Find out my best selections in my daily column. I’m ready. Bring it on. Yeeehaaa!
