Ruben Amorim blasts four Man Utd stars including captain Bruno Fernandes as manager bemoans ‘lack of speed’
RUBEN AMORIM blasted four stars as he bemoaned Manchester United’s “lack of speed” in their dramatic comeback win against Southampton.
The Red Devils were second best for most of the match as bottom-place Saints turned on the style at Old Trafford.
![Ruben Amorim, manager of Manchester United, speaks with Bruno Fernandes during a Premier League match.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/2025-ruben-amorim-manager-manchester-964261013.jpg?strip=all&w=960)

Ivan Juric’s men missed several chances before taking the lead through a Manuel Ugarte own goal.
But an incredible hat-trick by Amad Diallo from the 82nd minute onwards saw United turn the game on its head at the last moment, sealing a 3-1 win for the hosts.
Despite the positive result, manager Amorim was less than pleased at how easily United were ripped apart on the break.
The likes of Tyler Dibling and Kamaldeen Sulemana had a field day on the flanks, with the latter making mincemeat of £60million summer signing Leny Yoro on multiple occasions.
And speaking after the final whistle, Amorim targeted the French centre-back alongside midfield trio Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes for failing to pull their weight in defensive transitions.
The Portuguese tactician said: “We have difficulties to press high. This team is not used to doing that.
“It seems like a lack of enthusiasm, Ugarte is late, Mainoo is late, Bruno going outside and the ball is inside, one transition and Leny Yoro cannot catch the guy.
“These small things push the team behind and we get nervous without the ball.
“But then when you have one goal or one opportunity, you feel like the team can better control the game.
“I want to be fair with my players. Today was not a lack of enthusiasm, it was a lack of speed and sometimes lack of control of the game.

“The players are not used to playing like that. You have to cover a lot of space, you have to change which player is jumping in the press.
“With the ball today, we saw we had some patterns when the ball is in the sides of the pitch but then we lose the duels.
“It’s hard to explain it now. We don’t have the training. It’s a different system and it’s so completely different from what they are used to doing.
“I don’t know how long it will take but you can understand the profile sometimes are not the right ones but we have to improve players and we know the situation of the club.”

Schoolboy, 15, died playing football after complaining about shortness of breath just weeks earlier
A SCHOOLBOY died playing football after complaining about shortness of breath just weeks earlier.
Jake Lawler, 15, passed away after collapsing at Ashton on Mersey School in Sale, Trafford, on November 5 last year.
![](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/MF-1-864x1536-1.jpeg?strip=all&w=540)
An inquest into the teen’s death was opened at Stockport Coroners’ Court yesterday.
The court heard a month before his death he attended Wythenshawe Hospital complaining of shortness of breath while playing football.
The hearing was told Jake, from Sale, had also collapsed around that time.
A post-mortem found his cause of death as biventricular arrhythmogenic cardiomyopath.
ACM is rare genetic heart condition that affects the heart’s ventricles causing heart rhythm disorders and a weakened heart muscle.
Jake’s school said: “Our school community was absolutely devastated by the loss of one of our much loved and precious students, Jake Lawler, who recently passed away in tragic circumstances.
“As a school, we keep his family and friends in our thoughts and continue to support our students and staff during this incredibly difficult time.
“We would also like to take this opportunity to share a link to Jake’s memorial fund, set up by his family to raise awareness of a very worthy cause – CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
“The money will go towards raising awareness of young sudden cardiac death as well as supporting the families affected, supporting their screening programme and funding research and pathology.”
Senior coroner Alison Mutch adjourned the hearing for a full inquest on April 15.
Love Island fans spot moment Ronnie secretly gives away his real feelings – did you see it?
LOVE Island viewers claim to have spotted Ronnie’s real feelings about his villa kiss drama after he snogged Kaz Crossley behind Elma Pazar’s back.
The 28-year-old, whose nickname is “Turbo”, was at the centre of multiple love triangles during his first villa stint last year and he’s walked straight into another now.
![Ronnie Vint and Elma Pazar on Love Island.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/7dfc828c-fed5-4797-9b43-1df9bffb5aa9.jpg?strip=all&w=960)

But eagle-eyed viewers claim he’s relishing every moment of the drama after he and Elma clashed on the outside beds.
In a heated conversation, Elma accused him of flirting with Kaz and “giving her eyes”, while Ronnie downplayed any connection with the Manchester girl.
A frustrated Elma then stormed off leaving a smirking Ronnie alone.
One viewer wrote on X: “Ronnie LOVES IT, did you see that smile after Elma cussed him he lives for it.”
Another said: “Ron’s smirk ik he loves the attention.”
A third posted: “People that wind you up and smile in your face once you’re vex need a slap tbh.”
A fourth said: “Ronnie loves this [laughing emojis].”
In a chaotic episode last night, Casey O’Gorman, 28, was left in stitches by Ronnie’s messy antics.
He awkwardly spotted foundation on Ronnie’s jacket after he snogged both Kaz, 29, and Elma, 31.
Footballer Ronnie came under fire after taking Kaz out to the Secret Garden and locking lips with her just moments after doing the same with Towie‘s Elma.
When he returned to the firepit with the boys, Casey cheekily remarked: “Naughty boy, is that foundation on your jacket? Is that Kaz or Elma?”
Ronnie was then seen licking his hand and wiping his jacket in an attempt to remove the stain.
Also in the instalment, Elma furiously confronted him over his betrayal.
Ronnie firmly denied leaning in for the kiss, telling Elma: “No, I really didn’t.”
However, the footage showed otherwise, as Ronnie clearly leaned into Kaz’s lap and put his hands on her face, resulting in them locking lips.
All Stars viewers were quick to spot the discrepancy and flooded social media with their reactions.
One fan wrote: “I see Ronnie still hasn’t learned that the villa has cameras.”
Another pointed out: “People on Instagram saying Kaz is a snake and that she leant in for the kiss.
“I’ve just finished catching up on the episode, and she was genuinely mid-conversation, and he leaned all the way over into her space.”
A third added: “Now Ronnie, why are you lying exactly? I need more than four weeks of this season, please.”
Others were even more direct in their criticism.
One viewer hit out: “Ronnie just bare face lying for no reason, wholly unserious human.”
“The way Ronnie just lies is crazy. Like, sir, WE SAW YOU IN 4K initiating the kiss,” another exclaimed.

Luke Littler puts on ‘rusty’ display with new darts as world champ edges out Lourence Ilagan to set up Gerwyn Price tie
LUKE LITTLER produced a “rusty” display with his new darts in his first game since becoming world champion.
But The Nuke warned his oche rivals that he plans to end 2025 with MORE titles and by throwing a RECORD number of nine-darters.
![A darts player throwing a dart.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/NINTCHDBPICT000964272946_320c2d.jpg?strip=all&w=960)

Five days before his 18th birthday, Littler opened his defence of the Bahrain Darts Masters with a 6-3 win over Lourence Ilagan from the Philippines.
Apart from a 142 checkout to win leg eight, the teen sensation suffered a mid-game wobble in which The Gunner threatened to make it a much closer battle.
But Littler progressed to a quarter-final showdown on Friday with Gerwyn Price, using new equipment after deciding to frame the ones he threw to lift the World Darts Championship on January 3.
Littler, supported by his mum and dad in the oil-rich nation, said: “I’m happy to get past that first game.
“There weren’t any nerves. A bit of rust. A fresh set of darts The ones I won the World Championship with are getting put away in a frame.
“It’s very hard to break in a new set of darts. I played alright in patches.
“There were some bad patches there. I did the right things at the right time and punished him. It would mean the world to retain this trophy.”
Littler’s first of 11 PDC titles came in this tournament 12 months ago and he loved being announced for the walk-on by MC John McDonald as the “newly-crowned champion of the world”.

The Warrington ace, who has a special birthday to celebrate next Tuesday, hit a joint-record four perfect legs in the last calendar year but has vowed to do even better.
He said: “It feels crazy to be back in Bahrain. It was a fast year of 2024. I started 2025 in the best way possible by winning the Worlds.
“I want to say life is the same but it’s definitely not – it has changed. I relaxed after the final. This is it. It’s time now for the busy schedule.
“I want to win as much as I can. Obviously try to hit more nine-darters than I did last year. Win more titles than I did last year.
“I want to break the nine-dart record. Get those nine darters tallied up for my own records.
“I’m looking forward to not only being the world champion for the whole year.”
Price will be the next opponent over the best of 11 legs and the Iceman opened his account on Thursday with a 6-3 victory over Lok Yin Lee from Hong Kong.
The Welshman, who will revert back to his old darts for this clash, said: “All the pressure is on Luke. He’s the world champion, the world No.2, he has had a brilliant year.
“There’s no pressure on me. He’s expected to win. I’m here to upset the party.”
World no.1 Luke Humphries did not miss a checkout in his 6-0 win over Abdulla Saeed, who averaged a shocking 62.30.
Rob Cross was a big-name casualty of this World Series of Darts event as he was humbled 6-3 by the world No.94 Paolo Nebrida.
In terms of quality, it was a terrible match and the Filipino thrower averaged only 82.37 and needed 29 DARTS to win leg four.
Nebrida, 30, said: “I’m proud to win and I know there’s more to come. I felt good but Rob is a tough player. When my first dart goes in, I have a chance.”
Stephen Bunting says he felt nervous throughout his 6-2 win over Indian Nitin Kumar because he thought his hero Steven Gerrard was in the crowd.
But then he came off stage and discovered the Liverpool legend had not travelled from Saudi Arabia where he is a club manager.
Chris Dobey had no Hollywood drama as he was a 6-0 winner over Arabian slow-coach Basem Mahmood, who takes between 21 and 23 seconds to throw three darts.
