Fears for Madeleine McCann case as prosecutor admits Brueckner ‘WON’T be charged soon’ & top suspect will be set free
THE Madeleine McCann case could fall apart as a prosecutor has admitted there is no chance prime suspect Christian Brueckner will be charged any time soon.
The paedophile, 47, remains the main suspect in the three-year-old’s 2007 abduction.
![Christian B., suspect in the Madeleine McCann disappearance, at a court hearing.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/2024-christian-b-suspect-disappearance-939229171.jpg?strip=all&w=640)

The German is currently in prison serving a sentence for the rape of an American woman in Portugal’s Algarve in 2005.
He is expected to be released in September as his seven-year sentence is due to end – while investigators in three countries are desperately working to find evidence against him.
Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters told Sky: “There is currently no prospect of an indictment in the Maddie case.
“As things stand, the accused Christian B’s imprisonment will end in early September.”
A court source clarified that prosecutors are mainly focused in appealing the rape and child abuse charges he was cleared of back in October.
They said: “Prosecutors aren’t afraid of charging over Maddie – but their priority is appealing against the charges he was cleared of last year.
“They believe a retrial is the best way to keep him behind bars.
“First the judge has to deliver the verdict in writing, then Wolters continues the appeal at the German next higher court and the highest German court, the BGH Federal Court.
“Both appeals he had started already but Wolters can only continue when the judge has delivered her verdict in writing. She has not done that yet, but has a time limit that is ending soon.”
While Philipp Marquort, one of Christian B’s defence lawyers welcomed the prosecutor’s comment.
He said: “This confirms the suspicions that we have repeatedly expressed, namely that there is no reliable evidence against our client.
“We regret that we have not yet been granted access to the investigation files.
“We have not yet been able to effectively counter the public prejudice arising from statements made by the prosecutor’s office.”
German cops were hoping to charge Brueckner with Madeleine’s kidnap and murder before he is freed, as the 2019 conviction for the American woman’s rape is the only thing that keeps him behind bars.
The exact date he will be released was revealed as September 17, 2025.
Under German law, if Brueckner is not charged or arrested in connection with Madeleine’s abduction before he is released from jail he will be free to go anywhere in the world.
The German was named prime suspect over the youngster’s disappearance in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007 by police in 2020.
He has not been charged with it and he denies any involvement.

Passenger jets forced to SWERVE exploding SpaceX rocket debris as dramatic cockpit vid shows red hot metal raining down
PASSENGER jets were forced to swerve the red-hot and glowing remains of the exploded SpaceX rocket that rained across the sky on Thursday.
Dozens of commercial flights had to divert to other airports or stray course to avoid the deadly path of debris, with one video capturing the spectacle from the cockpit of a plane.

Tesla tycoon Elon Musk‘s Starship rocket exploded just minutes into its seventh test flight in a dramatic mid-air failure – resulting in glowing debris to fly through the sky above confused citizens.
Unbelievable footage shows the glittery remains raining down after the 400ft behemoth launched from Boca Chica, southern Texas, on Thursday.
Airline flights over the Gulf of Mexico were desperately made to alter course to avoid the deadly wrath of the falling wreckage.
And several planes over the Atlantic, near the ultra-luxurious Turks and Caicos Islands, were also forced to halt or divert after the megarocket exploded into the atmosphere.
One flight radar data images during the debris chaos shows jets circling in the sky before having to change their routes and destinations.
Along with commercial flights having to dodge and divert the debris, departures from airports in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, were also delayed, according to FlightRadar24.
One shocking video captured in the cockpit of a commercial aircraft shows the red-hot metal flying dangerously across the airspace – in the path where planes could have been flying.
The debris light up the sky, glittering orange, white and blue colours as the pilot films the unbelievable spectacle, presumably in fear and confusion.
The Federal Aviation Administration, which regulates civil aircraft flying, said it had briefly slowed and diverted planes around the area where space debris was falling.
Normal operations had since resumed.

The FAA regularly closes airspace for space launches but it can create a “debris response area” to prevent aircraft from entering if the space vehicle experiences an anomaly outside the originally closed zone.
Putting a positive spin on the rocket failure, Musk shared a video of the sky spectacle on his social media X with the upbeat caption: “Success is uncertain, but entertainment is guaranteed!”
SpaceX had packed it with 10 dummy satellites for practice at releasing them.
It was the first flight with this new and upgraded spacecraft.
But while the rocket’s booster performed flawlessly – making a successful return and being caught between two giant mechanical arms at the launchpad – the rocket itself vanished.
The thrill of the catch quickly turned into disappointment for not only the company, but the crowds gathered along the southern tip of Texas.
Crews lost contact with the Starship, the largest and most powerful rocket in the world.
The company’s livestream host confirmed the worst: “At this point in time, we can confirm we did lose the ship.
“It looks like we lost contact a little under eight and a half minutes into the flight.”
Confirming the explosion, SpaceX wrote on X: “Starship experienced a rapid unscheduled disassembly during its ascent burn.
“Teams will continue to review data from today’s flight test to better understand root cause.”
As the rocket disintegrated in the sky, glowing debris rained down, forcing nearby air traffic to reroute.
Aircraft were diverting away from the area where the debris soared through the atmosphere.
The last data received from Starship indicated the rocket had reached an altitude of 90 miles, with a velocity of 13,245 mph, before contact was lost.
SpaceX spokesman Dan Huot said: “It was great to see a booster come down, but we are obviously bummed out about ship.”
He added that it would take time to analyze the data and determine what went wrong.
Elon Musk’s space company had hoped this test flight would mark a step forward in its goal to build a fully reusable spacecraft capable of carrying humans to Mars.
He plans to launch actual Starlinks on Starships before moving on to other satellites and, eventually, crews.
The tech boss himself tweeted ahead of liftoff: “Every Starship launch is one more step closer towards Mars.”
The Starship prototype had been heavily modified since its last test flight in November 2023.
SpaceX had also made upgrades to the booster “catch” tower, which had been damaged during the previous test.

‘Remarkable’ frontwoman of iconic British group ‘took own life after struggling with band’s success’
THE “remarkable” frontwoman of an iconic British band took her own life after struggling with the group’s success, an inquest heard.
Danielle Moore, who was the lead singer in techno group Crazy P, died after being hit by a train in Birmingham, West Midlands, last August.
![Danielle Moore of Crazy P performing at a music festival.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/danielle-moore-crazy-p-performs-929614223.jpg?strip=all&w=960)
An inquest heard the 52-year-old had been struggling with exhaustion due to her heavy work schedule.
Danielle’s husband James Ensell told the court she also had issues sleeping due to perimenopause symptoms.
As the band’s success grew, the singer was also finding it difficult to cope, Birmingham Coroners Court heard.
James said she performed her last gig at a festival on August 25 in Lincolnshire but was “unusually self critical about her performance.”
Five days later, James saw his wife alive for the last time at around 9am.
He received a phonecall later that day from police, who tragically informed him Danielle had been found dead near railway tracks.
A post mortem found the performer had died from multiple injuries.
The inquest was told Danielle had contacted a hypnotherapist on the day before she died to discuss whether she was suffering from a border line personality disorder.
Dr David Budd said that there appeared to be “a lot more going on than was apparent”.
Birmingham and Solihull Area Coroner James Bennett ruled Danielle deliberately took her own life.
He added: “The evidence from Danielle’s husband and her friends is clear, that she had suffered with her mental health over many years.
“She was working extremely hard as a successful and popular musician.
“The consequences of being perimenopausal did have more than a minimal impact upon Danielle’s mental health.
“She had a low mood and reported disassociation against a background of being impacted by exhaustion working as a musician and symptoms of perimenopause for which she had been prescribed HRT by her GP.”
Following the inquest, James paid tribute to his “remarkable” wife who was “self deprecating and humble” and “had an awareness of her own vulnerability”.
He said the family is sill “reeling from her loss and cannot comprehend that she is gone”.
James added: “Whilst we will never fully understand why Danielle took her life we know that how she died bears no relation to who she was in life.
“Danielle cared deeply about the well being of others and the world in which she lived.
“She was pained by social injustice and the impact of consumerism. She was an empath, instinctively compassionate and loyal, nurturing the truest connections with the people in her life.
“The image of human kindness and generosity of spirit.
“We would like to take this opportunity to highlight the prevalence of neurological and psychiatric symptoms during perimenopause, something which is well known in the scientific community, but little talked about outside of it.”
You're Not Alone
EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide
It doesn’t discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society – from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.
It’s the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.
And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.
Yet it’s rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.
That is why The Sun launched the You’re Not Alone campaign.
The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.
Let’s all vow to ask for help when we need it, and listen out for others… You’re Not Alone.
