Major new golf rule introduced that would have changed Masters history

A LITTLE-KNOWN golf rule has been tweaked and it could have changed who won the Masters.

Roberto De Vicenzo birdied on the 17th hole at Augusta in 1968 – only for his playing partner Tommy Aaron to accidentally record it as a par.

The Argentine did not notice the mistake and signed the scorecard.

By the time the error was picked up on, the score could not be changed and De Vicenzo finished second behind by Bob Goalby by one shot that he never took.

But new rules were introduced to the PGA Tour and Masters last year that allows a player to rectify a scorecard mishap within 15 minutes of submitting it.

Now, a tweak has been made to the law to add clarity to the recent change.

Under Section 5A(5), it is now up to the tournament on how long they give players to spot a scoring mistake.

The rules read: “During 2024 the governing bodies confirmed that the Rules of Golf allow for a policy that uses a duration of time (such as 15 minutes) to define when a scorecard is returned.

“Such policies allow a player to return to the defined scoring area and correct a scorecard mistake within that duration of time, but do not change the requirement for the player to promptly proceed to the scoring area after they finish their round.

“When using such a policy, the Committee should determine both how much time is allowed as well as when it begins.

“Such as when, the player left the defined scoring area, the group completed their last hole of the round, or the player’s scorecard was entered into an electronic scoring system.”

The rule was initially changed after Jordan Spieth was disqualified from the Genesis Invitational for signing an incorrect scorecard.

The 2015 Masters champion signed for a par three on the fourth hole when he had actually landed a bogey.

It later emerged that the reason behind Spieth not checking his score properly was due to him desperately needing the toilet.

Ayo’s pal Omar claims the love island star is in South Africa.

Now fans are convinced that former Islander, Ayo Odukoya will enter the villa as a bombshell after his pal Omar claims he’s in South Africa.

Ayo was previously coupled up with mental health nurse Mimii Ngulube until bombshell Jess Spencer walked into the villa last year.

Ayo and Jess came in in fourth place during the final but their time in the villa was shrouded in controversy.

When they left the villa they were still not official but their relationship appeared to be growing deeper.

However, despite picking to stay with Jess, viewers and some of the islanders were convinced that Ayo still had feelings for Mimii.

Ayo’s brother even said he wasn’t sure about Jess when he entered the villa on family day.

But during the final episode, Ayo declared his love for Jess, saying: “I am obsessed with you.

“I know we say ‘Love you’ in passing, but the reality of it is that I do love you.”

Sadly however, Jess confirmed their break-up last October – after weeks of speculation – urging fans to “let it go.”

But when Jess debuted a new man things appeared to turn nasty.

The Sun recently revealed the beauty’s “soft launch” of her boyfriend designer Braydon Hackett, who is the brother of Towie star Roman Hackett, 22.

The news didn’t seem to go down well with Ayo, who took to social media to film a blistering video.

Wearing a white hoodie top he spoke direct to camera for a social media video and said: “Question.

“Has anyone told you they need to heal, then has a boyfriend the week after? Just a question.”

Love Island Series 11 - who's still together?

The 11th series of popular ITV2 dating show Love Island created plenty of new couples - but not all of them have managed to go the distance.

  • Mimii and Josh – Split: After two months together, the show’s winners revealed it was over after mounting speculation. Mimii said: “Unfortunately things aren’t going to work out between us right now”
  • Nicole and Ciaran – Split
  • Matilda and Sean – Split: The couple, who reached the final, opted to go their separate ways just a month after series 11 wrapped. They each announced news of the separation through statements posted on Instagram.
  • Jess and Ayo – Split
  • Jessy and Joey – Split: Seven weeks after the villa, the pair confirmed their split. Joey told us: “Unfortunately, we have decided to call an end to the relationship but I hope we can continue to be friends.”
  • Grace and Reuben – Split: Grace and Reuben were eliminated just before the final. They mutually decided to call time on their relationship after struggling to make it work in the real world thanks to their conflicting, busy schedules.
  • Jess W and Hugo – Split: The couple – who got together during the Casa Amor stage – split just days after leaving the villa. Meanwhile, Hugo was seen snogging  former Love Island contestant Charlotte Sumner.
  • Harriett and Ronnie – Split
  • Uma and Will – still together

The huge dig came as another graphic saw Jess and co-star Harriett Blackmore drinking wine, with the caption: “Told him I wanted to focus on myself and it’s only ever going to be him then got in a new relationship the next week.”

The hashtag #womeninmalefields was then added to wrap the post.

Fans of the show have been quick to share their thoughts on Ayo’s possible return to Love Island for All Stars,

“No lol he better not go for Catherine” said one viewer.

“He and his riddles would be the cause for my headaches” added another.

But one Reddit user stated: “He needs to. If he doesn’t no one else will and she’ll go home. Ayo is better than her being dumped.”

“I want more for Catherine!! Ayo’s fine but the lack of eligible male islanders vs females is annoying” explained another.

But one viewer was certain it wouldn’t happen and said: “Gotta be a wind up, gotta be lol.”

Another agreed stating: “It’s satire clearly guys c’mon.”

They claimed that the hate doesn’t affect them[/caption]

Opening up to Truly, the artists and entrepreneurs, who are known online as ‘Not2twinz’, revealed all on the hate they often get from gross old men.

On an episode of Love Don’t Judge, the couple, who are inseparable, dress identically, have matching hairstyles and similar tattoos, explained that being in sync has made their followers question the sanctity of their relationship.

Princess admitted: “A lot of our haters are old men.”

To which Jess chimed in: “I don’t know why they are so mad, why are you so mad?”

Not only do people accuse them of incest and call them twin sisters, but many even say ‘they’re going to hell’.

The couple met at a club and instantly recognised their ‘hot’ similarities, as Jess beamed: “We do look a lot alike, the curly hair, the prettiness. I was definitely attracted to what I saw.”

Princess then confessed: “We started looking more alike when we decided to dye our hair together.”

And their similar looks continuously cause them to go viral online, as she added: “We started our social media a year ago and from the first time we ever posted, on everything, it went viral.”

But Jess claimed that they closely organise their content to avoid backlash, as she confessed: “We don’t really do any PDA or touching or kissing because we get backlash from it.

“The reactions online are hilarious, they make us laugh, they are very consistent.”

Whilst Princess recognised: “You either consistently hate us or consistently love us.”

But it’s not just online hate they receive – Princess also opened up on their public reaction and admitted: “In person, people are bold and aggressive.

To which Jess acknowledged: “It boosts us, you took the time out of your day to say something about us, instead of worrying about yourself.”

Social media users react
