‘I spent £5.4m on hundreds of Land Rover Defenders in a huge gamble – now I’m selling them for ten times the price’

A MAN who spent £5.4million on hundreds of Land Rover Defenders’ is now selling some of them for ten times the price he bought them for.

Charles Fawcett made the huge gamble back in 2015 when he saw an opportunity to pick up some of the last ever of the iconic British cars which were being built.

Charles shared the shocking amount he has made: “I guess you could directly attribute £50million to £60million turnover that’s been achieved off the back of them, probably more.”

When the vehicles were ordered, each new Land Rover Defender should have cost between £26,000 to £33,000, depending on the model and specification.

But Charles managed to negotiate a 14.8 per cent discount on the 239 vehicles, paying around an average of £22,600 per Defender.

Charles stored the vehicles away in his bunker at an undisclosed location, and patiently waited for their value to skyrocket.

And skyrocket it did, with wealthy customers now willing to spend up to £220,000 on the custom-made models.

Charles claimed he has now sold 210 of the Defenders, and confirmed that there are still some in storage.

Reflecting on the order, Charles said that in the grand scheme of global business where companies spend billions, it was a “tiny little deal”.

Charles said: “We’re just Land Rover enthusiasts in North Yorkshire who build cool stuff, have some amazing customers and just love what we do.

The motor enthusiast described the investment as one his best financial decisions.

But he added that he plans to keep some of the cars back for his own collection.

Having stored and looked after the vehicles for 10 years Charles said he had grown attached to them.

He even went as far to say he would have kept more than 100 of them if he could have.
