It was released on Apple Music to mark Commonwealth Day on Monday before he attended a Westminster Abbey service with William, Kate and Camilla.

His compilation is now top of the music podcast Apple charts in the UK.

And several of the acts he picked for his Commonwealth playlist have sent messages of thanks.

Nigerian star Davido posted an audio message saying: “Hello, Your Majesty. It’s your boy, Davido.

“I’m so delighted to know that my song, Kante Featuring Fave, made it to The King’s Music Room.

“I’m so happy to know that you listen to my music. And yeah, one love.”

Grace Jones said: “For my friend, King Charles, I’m so happy to hear La Vie En Rose is one of your favourite songs.

“I’m so happy we have the same taste in music also.

“One day, I hope to sing it for you live, okay?”

The hour-long royal list, narrated by Charles, has beaten podcasts by radio stars Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw.

It is also above releases about legendary band Joy Division, shows on the classical music and house music scene, and a podcast with Spandau Ballet’s Gary Kemp.
