Becoming Cheltenham
The Cheltenham Festival began in 1860 and was originally held at Market Harborough, Leicestershire before moving to its namesake in 1861.
It moved to various locations before finally returning to Cheltenham in 1904.
The Gold Cup began as a supporting race for the Country Hurdle before becoming a championship race.
The competition’s popularity has soared over the years, making it one of the most anticipated events.
