Amazon slashes ‘brilliant, bright’ Fire TV from £300 to £180 in February device sale

Amazon is offering a huge discount on its 40-inch 2-Series Fire TV, cutting the price by a massive 40%.

Usually priced at £299.99, this smart television is now just £179.99, and one of many tech bargains in a big February device sale.

£179.99 (was £299.99)

This is the first major sale on Amazon devices we’ve seen this year.

Among the various tech deals on offer are smart doorbells, Echo speakers and security cams – but some of the best discounts are on TVs.

The Fire TV 40-inch 2-Series is a great option for smaller spaces like spare rooms, kids’ bedrooms, or even kitchen counters.

It’s a Full HD rather than 4K television – but don’t let that put you off, since 4K can’t be properly appreciated with TVs of this size.

If you’re looking for a proper level-up, it’s definitely worth looking at the deals on Amazon’s larger, higher-spec Omni TV range.

That includes the 50-inch (£399.99, was £649.99), 55-inch (£449.99, was £749.99) and 65-inch (£849.99, was £999.99) sets.

But if you’re after a bargain telly of a moderate size, the 40-inch 2-Series is an absolute steal at well under £200.

It comes with Amazon’s Fire TV platform – that’s the same smart hub you’ll find in the retailer’s line of streaming sticks, which are also on sale.

This essentially puts all your entertainment in one place: live TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, video games and music.

These are all services you’ll need to pay for, but if you’re after something free, apps like YouTube, Freevee, and Pluto TV let you watch films and shows without spending a penny.

This TV is also designed to work seamlessly with other Fire TV devices, so you can pick up where you left off in another room.

It will keep getting smarter too, since Alexa is continuously updated with new features and abilities over time.

The included Alexa Voice Remote makes everything simple – just press and ask the voice assistant to find shows, check sports scores or even operate connected smart gadgets.

The TV also has two HDMI ports for connecting things like satellite boxes or gaming consoles, plus an HDMI ARC input for extra sound equipment.

Gaming fans will likely appreciate the Fire TV’s compatibility with Amazon Luna and the Appstore, giving you access to loads of games.

Shoppers on the Amazon website have given it an average rating of 4.3 out of 5.

“Never thought of buying an Amazon Fire TV before,” one happy customer writes.

“Good size TV… The picture is brilliant and bright. Good value for money. Would buy again!”

Another reviewer shared: “Brilliant TV. Good picture and sound. Was very easy to set up for streaming channels.

“Just connected PlayStation to it, also easy to do. Only niggle is the remote control is very small and light, making it quite sensitive at times.”

“Great TV for the money,” a third buyer added. “[I] bought for occasional use in the kitchen.

“Great picture from all angles and the sound is good. Apps open quickly, no delay.”
